Claim put in Feb 19. Refused may 18th. MR in June 10. So I rang and he said I can't tell you but good days are coming don't worry.
Called up a few days later to check what decision maker made. NO MOBILITY. LOW CARE!!., my son as adhd/odd,. Sensory. Possible asd. .
I was told by citizens advice etc. It would be higher care and some mobility.
So I said how did they come to that decision!!! I wax quite annoyed. I said you clearly not looked at senco report, school report etc.
He rang back and said half an hour later. Iv realised that the school evidence was not looked at . Decision maker had asked school to send and they didn't but printed it for me to post a week ago as requested.
He then said we got to make a new decision. My son masks at school but bad at home.
Now I'm thinking they going to take 28 pound away to

All together 42 weeks of hell waiting for them to mess it up

I’ve had a bit of an earthquake of a day, and don’t quite know how it will affect my DLA claim. My daughter is 7 1/2, and we finally got put on the waiting list for an autism assessment in July, which was when I sent my DLA NC in.

She has loads of other bits and pieces going on, but none of them affect her life as much as the ASD, so I based my claim on that, along with her struggles with fine and gross motor skills, and her inability to walk far due to shortened calf muscles meaning she can only walk on tiptoe. There isn’t a lot of medical evidence because everything up until now has been “we will see how she matures”, and so I have just been managing as best as I can with no medical support.

For the first 2 months of my pregnancy I was on Sodium Valproate, and was told that if she didn’t have a Cleft Palate or Spina Bifida then the Valproate hadn’t affected her. It turns out that this information was incorrect, and every single congenital issue she has had is a symptom of Fetal Valproate Spectrum Disorder, and she also has the majority of the facial markers too.

Do I need to start my claim again? Argh!

I probably wouldn’t start the claim again, maybe just call them and tell them you need to send in new evidence and ask for them to put a note on your claim to say awaiting further evidence. Then get whatever reports you can together regarding the Fetal Valproate Spectrum Disorder and send it in along with a covering letter explaining what has changed. If you send it tracked and signed for then it’ll arrive and be scanned on to their system within the same week (usually). Could this disorder potentially be a cause of ASD or is that now ruled out? But yeah I would add to the existing claim and just explain to them, as a new claim would be another 25 week + wait which I’m sure is the last thing you need. X

Scareofgettingthiswrong · 14/12/2024 07:55

@dshort1994 the Fetal Valporate Syndrome causes ASD, congenital heart defects, congenital eye defects, low muscle tone, GERD, and developmental problems, which are all the issues we have had since she was born. I am just so cross because every health professional I have seen has said it is all in my head or we have to wait and see how she develops, no-one joined the dots, and apparently it is well documented as far back as 1973 that Sodium Valproate causes these problems. I am not an over-bearing mother and it isn’t all in my head!

Good morning guys. Hoping we hear over the weekend🤞🏽🤞🏽

No I wouldn’t start the claim again. I would call up and say you are sending in more evidence. They will write a note of what you are sending.

i get what you’re saying I had professionals shouting at me “there’s nothing wrong with your child” like I know there’s nothing wrong with him I just believe he’s autistic😂 and I wasn’t wrong. He’s severely autistic.
But as for DLA it’s not about diagnosis it’s about the care needs. As long as you accurately told about your child’s care needs there’s no point in starting a whole new claim. Just send off paperwork to add to your claim.

I've been watching these threads for weeks but never wrote on them. My scan date is 06/08 and my son was awarded this week 😊 apparently it was a very straight forward claim as the evidence i had was good. My son has been awarded hrc and lrm. I had a universal credit appointment call this morning, so I asked what I needed to declare etc. She went through it on the phone with me, an hour later someone else called to say they have issued a backpayment today for carers element and disability child payment too!! All within an hour. 😊
Hopefully this gives everyone some hope 😊 x

This gives me hope as I'm struggling so bad right now and a lot going on with health in my family. 😩 My NC SD is 07/08/2024 but I have a dreaded feeling they're going to decline us. My son is 5 can't go out without pram and completely non verbal and so on. But I still feel like we're going to get turned down. We've not been very lucky this month 😅

Scareofgettingthiswrong · 14/12/2024 08:14

Thank you so much!! You are so kind and helpful, thank you! I was accurate in the claim, but there wasn’t a lot of evidence other than the ASD referral and the hospital appointments for her eye and OT. It’s typical that we are meant to be going to a decision maker next week-why couldn’t this have happened 8 weeks ago? 😂😂

CoralSnake · 14/12/2024 08:15

Sd- 01/08 nc,
I will be 20 weeks on Thursday still haven't dared call 🤣

I can't make sense of how they work. Really feel for the July's holding on. MR . . . My mind would explode. It's the duration of time you have to wait that makes it 10x worse. Start to doubt everything you have written , evidence sent off. Massive Thanks to everyone on here 🙌 good to keep each other going x

That’s it the waiting and second guessing and not knowing what to expect and just wanting an end to it. We all know what each does are feeling and helps to offer support x

UC - Should I complain.

I finally today after waiting nearly 3 months got my backdated carers element and disabled child element.

It wasn't as much as I was expecting. So I went through my revised payments.
My eldest left full time education in July, so up until then I was getting 'support' for both children. But on my revised statements where they've added the elements they've taken the support for my eldest son off. But I don't understand why because I had it on yhete before they added the elements. It works out about 2k loss. I have put a note on my journal but I never hear back.
I do work full time and I don't want to.sound greedy by asking why I'm at a loss from those 8 months. What do i do?

SAS812 · 14/12/2024 10:14

When you get an 0800 number calling you and you think oooh might it be DLA working on a Saturday but it turns out it’s Nutricia wanting to check what feed and equipment you need delivering for the month 😂 bloomin heck I think I might be a bit more anxious about all of this that I thought! 😂

The way my stomach would drop seeing the 0800 number, then I’d compose myself with my best voice to say hello, then they say it’s nutricia I would throw my phone down the toilet😂😂😂
