Fingers crossed for you, my son is same non verbal, development delayed, walks around with eyes closed been referred to children's eye assessment, ASD pathway and has no awareness of danger, sensory issues as well as other things sent in alot of evidence but all just depends I know it's so hard to get HRM but will go the whole way if I need to, I have applied for a blue badge through Local Authorities, keep us posted when you get the news

Thank you. Keeping everything crossed for you also.

Our children sound very similar, my child is also non verbal. No awareness or understanding of surroundings, danger to themselves. Sensory issues.

Best of luck to you on your journey and hope you get the support that your child deserves. I will definitely update once we have a decision. ❤️

Hi lovely I think they're the same address? It all goes to DWP post handling to get scanned on. This is the address I've always used to send additional evidence,

DLA Child
Post Handling Site B

Thank you! Just sent my extra evidence and birth certificate off. I’m only three weeks in so long wait for me. :)

Anxiouslywaitingmum · 19/08/2024 14:54

Anyone waiting on a mr around the same time as me 10/5??
It's all I'm thinking about. I'm 15 weeks on Friday so I am not calling til then because otherwise they'll just fob me off but I feel like it will be a few weeks yet

Mumaaa · 19/08/2024 15:38

Hi everyone
my scan date was 16th June
I had a letter today saying the claim could take up to 15 weeks. Does anyone know if they mean 15 weeks from the letter arriving or 15 weeks from scan date
good luck to everyone it is a long wait to find out especially if you need to appeal not sure if I done a good job on the form.

Parking, scan date 30/04.

Hi everybody,

I've been lurking for a while now, my DS about to be 5 this week has suspected Autism and ADHD.
I applied for DLA and an EHCP coinciding, I have been successful in my son being awarded an EHCP and I am currently going through the joys of going through the draft and also awaiting a decision on whether DS attends a mainstream or specialist provision. For context I tried to settle him into a mainstream school earlier in the summer and by week 2 my DS lashed out and hit a teacher in the face and the school did a complete U Turn even though they had all the paperwork, conversations and understanding of his behaviour. So I have deeply expressed my desire for him to attend a specialised school.
I have a couple of questions that regards the EHCP, will this help my DLA application? Has anyone been in a similar position and successfully managed to secure a specialist place after trying mainstream? I am aware that to secure a place in a specialised school is very difficult and in the pit of my stomach I feel they will try for him to go back to the same school under the guise that he now has an EHCP and the school must adhere to current guidelines.
Any advice would be much appreciated x

I went through the ECHP process before reception and I had a choice to send DS to specialist. However, I know because of how full the classes can be it can quite difficult to move them afterwards. You still have a choice, do your research state your preferred placement and inform local authority. If they declined then you appeal and take to tribunal. A lot of ECHP go to tribunal for placement, you will also need to appeal the sections in the plan to make sure they reflect child’s need adequately. It’s all a very long process but very worth it in the end if your child is struggling. As with regards to ECHP DLA question they probably ask as a child requiring substantial needs will need specific support to meet needs. Others have been awarded without an ECHP, it all differs. Just do what is best for your child. I think there is an ECHP thread on here. Might be worth having a look.

Kimbles86 · 19/08/2024 18:14

scan date 17/04, had a text today stating the had tried to call (they hadn’t) and will call back tomorrow.
I tried to call them and all they could say was it’s with decision maker and they will definitely call back tomorrow between 10 and 12, hopefully it’s positive!
good luck everyone waiting!

Thanks for your reply, I have got a couple of schools in mind that specifically cater for children with ASD as I think he needs people who understand and can manage his behaviour. Hopefully it won't go to tribunal but I'm ready and waiting to fight the battle! Have posted on EHCP thread to as this thread is more centred around DLA. X

Hi everyone, long time lurker here 🙈 DLA received my sons forms on 26/04/2024 (i sent recorded delivery signed for) I have never received any letters or texts since they have had the forms. I called a couple of weeks ago and they said it was in the line for a decision maker. I haven’t been told a scan date. I feel so nervous at the minute. Just over 16 weeks since they received the forms. Has anybody else here had no contact from them at all and still received good news? It’s all I’m thinking about. I’m too nervous to phone for an update. Did anyone else send their forms in around the same time as me? Thank you x

NoWordForFluffy · 19/08/2024 19:36

No letters at all? I'm 29/04 and had the initial letter confirming receipt and one at about 8 weeks apologising for no decision yet. No other letters (or texts).

Ceejay1982 · 19/08/2024 19:57

Not a single letter or text. They confirmed they had the forms and it was in line. Also acknowledged they were received on 26th April.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/08/2024 20:47

How bizarre. Did they say they'd sent any letters and they'd gone missing?

26 April you should be close now, anyway!

Same here, no letter or text acknowledgement of receipt of forms. Called to check they got them.

Only had a letter this week to they were still looking, sorry for the delay, can take up to 15 weeks etc.

Said they had sent one letter and checked my address was correct and it was. Hopefully it won’t be much longer and it’s good news

I haven’t had one of those letters either. If you don’t mind me asking, when did you send off your forms?

It's a standard letter at around 8 weeks saying it's upto 15 weeks from scan date, but it's more like 17-20 weeks roughly at the minute I was awarded at dead on 16 weeks back in may, I'm currently doing COC at currently on week 10 of that but again they said upto 14 weeks for that but now I think it's anywhere from 15-20 so don't hold your breath on the letter, it's about 17-18 weeks on here at minute middle to end of April dates, hope that helps

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, this is my first time posting. If anyone can direct me in the right place.
My daughter’s scan date was only 26/7 so long wait to go.
The issue I’m having is I currently claim UC and have been placed on a mandatory job program were I am required to attend training sessions and under take job search etc. I have had to cancel a couple of these appointment due to my daughter being ill. I am a single mother and she has major attachment issues as part of her ASD and will not stay with anyone but me. Anyway. I am not being told by my advisor at this program that I should be able to put my daughter in to external childcare nursery to make myself more available for work. There is no way my daughter would go in to another childcare setting other than school. My advisor stated ‘well if she goes to school for 6 hours a day then she can go to childcare aswel’ he also said I can’t expect an employer to just let me leave work all the time to pick my daughter up so that will have to stop. I’m sorry but what!? I regularly get calls from school to collect her/help with toileting. How can this just stop. I feel like I’m being put under so much pressure from them to undertake job search requirements and repeatedly threatened with sanctions because I have to care for my daughter. Does anybody know if there can be a stop put to my job search requirements until DLA is awarded?

found this on a facebook post from june, hope it helps

"Seen a few posts about carers allowance/element so thought I’d mention what I was told today. I was at the job center for my work focused interview and I said to my work coach about all the appointments my 2 children have, he asked me did any of them get dla I said no but I have applied. He asked to see my email or txt to confirm I had applied and what date, i showed him so he then got me to do a change of circumstances on my journal and put myself down as a carer for my son. I thought I could only be his carer if he had been awarded but no you can do while your waiting on a decision and that basically stops any job center appointments or work commitments its also is on record that you care for someone and the money gets backdated to when you applied for dla. I will not receive any extra money while I’m waiting on my sons decision as I won’t be verified until then, if it comes back as a no for dla then I will need to inform uc asap and they will change it back, if it comes back he’s to get dla then I will get extra money for him. Its a big help for me just now not having to deal with the extra job center appointments. Just thought I’d say in case it can help anyone else x"

Scan Date 26/04

All this waiting has started to get a bit much! Think it is more the fear of being refused and then having to start the long waits again to fight for it!

good luck everyone 💕

That’s exactly how I feel. We already have to fight for our little ones so much and then the thought of having to fight even more if we are declined is even more exhausting.

sending love and luck to everyone and their littles 🩷

I’m going to be bold and try and call at 9am today and hope I’m not on hold for ages. We are 17 weeks today 🤞🏻

Tardisdalek95 · 20/08/2024 09:12

Hi all, wanted to update. I called at 9am and was on hold for 5 seconds, I’ve never got through to anywhere so quickly in my life 😂. My scan date is 23/4, so 17 weeks today. He said that we are still in the new claims queue. It should be one week before it’s with DM and then 2 weeks for a decision. He said he’s been advising people to wait until the 20 week mark before they call to chase as most claims take that long so we shall see. He did give me a date I should know by, which the 20 week mark, 10th September.

🤞🏻🤞🏻

VP2024 · 20/08/2024 09:27

Hi all,

My app for my little girl was received by them on 21/05 and I got the letter to say it was up to 15 weeks, naively I thought it would be..

Currently on Week 13. Has anyone’s claims actually been done by Week 15?

Has anyone noticed any difference in timescales if you’ve been declined or accepted?

Thank you xx
