congrats on all the awards today πŸ₯³

Just a quick question for anyone with a child that has ASD / ADHD, what therapies have you introduced your child to?

My son is extremely dysregulated a lot of the time, he can be very angry and that can be physical (he's 7)
He also has epilepsy which causes a a lot of headaches and I imagine contributes to his outbursts

we've tried lots of activities in the past, beavers, football, gymnastics he hasn't coped with any of them

we are just about to start "relax kids" if i can get him through the door and he also does swimming as long as i get in the pool with him

is there anything else anyone can suggest for a very sensitive child?

Have a look at proprioceptive exercises. Just Google it and you'll find plenty of info and examples, I have 2 boys 6 and 2, they are both high sensory needs and we find this type of sensory therapy incredibly beneficial. All the other types are also good (sight, smell, touch, taste play etc) but can overwhelm you if done too much so doesn't help the issue. Proprioceptive is the only one which you can't overwhelm your sensory system with so you can do as much as you need to regulate. Hope this helps

Thank you!!
move still got to migrate over . Would I still be able to get it back dated by tax credits if I haven’t migrated yet? Just rechecked my letter and my date is august 15 but need to renew tax credits by July 31st so might aswell migrate then. I really don’t understand universal credit at all if I’m honest x

as far as I know you should have everything backdated as long as you tell them as soon as you have your award letter which says the exact date regardless of migrating or not so the sooner you tell them the better. especially if it's more than you would get moving to UC so you can get the transitional protection. Although I'm not too sure what the additional amount is for each benefit

Aw ino how you feel, I have had that a few times too, hopefully not too long for you now πŸ™‚congratulations on your award, and to everyone who has been awarded, @Matilde08 cannot believe them treating you the way they have, definitely complain and definitely do an MR. X

MumOf6Beauts · 21/06/2024 17:22

@Crazyhouse4 mine went on the 7/6 I hope ours isn't much longer of a wait! But I have seen it can take up to 9 weeks 😩 fingers crossed it doesn't take that long for us, he said it is verified so my next statement will have them on I'm just waiting on the decision maker for the back pay

I didn’t even get a verified message, I updated them on 7/6 then 10/6 it said it’s gone to a specialist dm for back pay decision, I hope it doesn’t take 9 weeks πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« that’s ages!

MumOf6Beauts · 21/06/2024 17:38

@Crazyhouse4 he only told
Me that because I message and asked him how long it would take, he said they can't give an answer it goes in date order for the dms so could take a while! I hope it doesn't though, as they have verified it fast for the next statements 😊
I'll update on here if I hear anything from mine

Hi, I messaged to ask after the 4th June when it was sent to dm as to how long it would take for a decision and they couldn't give me a time scale and then today the decision maker messaged on my journel saying it was to be backdated to the 10th Feb, then UC messaged like 30 minutes later saying how much I would be backdated today, hope that helps x

Does anyone have any MR success stories that can give me hope?

i applied back in October and was declined for my son who suffers with bowel incontinence and all medical interventions haven't worked so far.
the form was a bit of a minefield and I don't think I filled it in as best I could have although the reasoning for the decline was because there was no diagnosis, some children his age aren't potty trained and there was a note explaining DLA isn't to cover laundry? Referring to part of the information where I explained he wakes through the night and has bedding changes due to the soiling despite still wearing a nappy. Which I felt was relevant as other children his age wouldn't need their bedding changing every night?
ive sent further evidence and tried to explain better with the MR but they make you feel like you're lying it's horrible. I'm really hoping for good news!

Hi, how old is your child. My sisters has a child who has bowel incontinence, they have no diagnosis, she is 9, they recieve HRC HRM for her, hope that helps, they only got HRC and did an MR for mobility.

It does depend on what your child's needs are also, it's sounds like you do deserve help from DLA but if your child is still nappy age they will see it as they are not potty trained yet, my neice is 9 and soils day and night with extreme belly ache constantly.

He is only 4 which I know is young and there are children still in nappies that age but he is fully potty trained in terms of going for a wee (but because the bowel blockages cause pressure on his bladder he does have a lot of accidents if he can't get to the toilet in time)
but the other effects of the bowel incontinence require the same level of care whether he's 4,8,10 etc so I just feel this was so unfair.

i am on a waiting list to see his surgeon again which is another rant in itself but I've sent further letters from nursery and gp explaining the extra care needs. He starts school in September so I'll be going in to do a medical plan with them (thankfully they have disabled toilets with a full changing table and will assign to members of staff to change him at least every hour) so if MR is declined this would be the only additional evidence I could probably get for an appeal at tribunal.

Yes I would definitely do an MR as 4 is an age that children are mostly potty trained unless they medically cannot, my sister had all this, doctors saying she would grow out of it but its got worse as the years have gone on, she also got school to help her with forms as she needs contant changing in school. So I would definitely fight it as he sounds like he needs a lot of help and as for them saying washing sheets ect is part of dla that's bull as my daughter has been diagnosed with an overactive bladder and is constant wetting day and night also going through autism assement and I recieve DLA for her as I told them how much washing I have to do for her.

Thank you so much for this information I will definitely continue to push for it. It feels like a constant battle between drs and DWP at this point. I must have had a really unfair decision maker, the reasons for the decision was such a slap in the face.

KMC93 · 22/06/2024 11:01

No worries, hope it all works out for you 😊

Matilde08 · 22/06/2024 11:32

Thank you all for your emotional support πŸ’ Obviously no one called me back yesterday to explain the decision and I'm kind of ready not only do the MR, but overall put down big complaint how they have treated me and my sons claim.. actually they still do. I want to make sure that in the future there's no one with similar case being treated in that way. They have to consider serious changes in their policies then if needed.

A child typically at 4 is fully potty trained so if he's not able to use the toilet fully then he is not like the other children of that age. My eldest who is NT was potty trained in a week by the time he was 3 . My youngest who is ND is nearly 5 nd now we have had clean nappies in the night nd have only been able to take the pull up off now . So yh they are fobbing you off definitely do a MR

Do an MR , fight for your sons right . I know it's draining but we deserve it and are entitled to it . At the end of the day , they should be spending on us than funding genocides and wars .

I notified them on the 20th when I was awarded and apparently its been sent to cbol for them to verify with my first claim for my other son it was all done and backpay sent on the same day with a few hours no idea why they're dragging there feet when I no it can be done straight away so frustrating xx

Thank you. The nursery manager did do a letter explaining that even with other children the same age who haven't yet mastered potty training they are nothing like my son, his care needs are intense compared. A friend of mine made an application at the same time as me because her child has very very mild asthma, my friend herself couldn't believe her child was awarded but mine was not. I definitely feel fobbed off.
