Do I have to inform tax credits of my son’s DLA award? Also needing to migrate to UC in the coming weeks . Is the disability element for people without DLA or for them? I’ve just tried doing a benefit calculator and it has fried my brain!
what classes as disabled and severely disabled? X

Also when doing a calculation for better off you click yes your child is disabled and it will ask if you get any dla click what rates you get.. hope this helps.. it done my head in trying to see how worse off I'd be if I had to leave my job.. I've already went from full time to part but finding it harder to work that with 2 special need children that don't sleep

Sorry, that should have been 11/07 that his award runs out

I've read on here you keep getting paid if it's gone over your end date.. apparently you keep getting paid till it's been sorted.. but I don't understand it as if you don't get the same award as before or you get declined means your in debt to them.. I'm sure it will be sorted for you though.. I've just done a renewal and they told me it will be sorted for renewal date that's why you get forms sent put months before.. mines not till September though lol.. hope this helps

I would inform tax credit before changing to universal credit.. and disabled child is for people with dla I think.. but not it's only what I've read on here.. I could be wrong as I don't get it

It is mind boggling! I’ve never been on uc or DLA so it’s all very new and confusing. I thought it would be either DLA or disability element . Think I’m going to have to ask someone for help to move over to uc 🀯

It’s very exhausting having one child that doesn’t sleep and when he does he sleep walks! I don’t know how you do it with 2 and still function x

I wouldn't no how to help you with that but my sister in law is on it and she found it easy enough and she is thick burns toast haha but make sure you get tax credits informed first as you will get back money from them so saves the hassle chasing everyone up lol.. and it's very hard work they have never slept since birth one wakes up the other follows one as a melt down the other follows.. they like twins but a year apart in age.. plenty of coffee and red bull helps.. I'm sort of in a routine with it now it's been that long my body's used to it.. but as soons they asleep I go straight to bed 🀣 even when they sleep at grans very very rare I still wake up during night and up early it's a total routine you get into..

So I know this has been asked so many times but what do I do about uc? Do I wait for the letter to arrive before letting uc know? If not what date do I give them for backdating? Also if I get lcwra do I get the Carers element? I'm a single parent and my eldest dd is my carer. So confused with it all x

You can get carers allowance but not carers element if you get lcwra.x

I had a look and you get given a disability element if child gets hrc or mrc but when you apply to universal credit you tell them your child is disabled and what dla and or mobility and that will add the disabled element to your new claim for uc and also a carers element

2.5 weeks to go until the 11 week target, but I called anyway today because DS's award is due to end in 2 weeks and 6 days πŸ˜‚

I didn't get the name of the guy I spoke to, quite frankly he didn't shut up long enough for me to ask for it. What I did manage ti get out of him is that it hasn't even been allocated to a DM yet, and that I should call back on 04/07 if I haven't had an update.

Feels very down to the wire, I asked what happens if a decision hadn't been made by 11/0Β£ when his award runs out. He just said "well, I've never seen that happen yet!".

Awards are stopped on their end date if they haven't been renewed in time.
I called 10 days prior to my sons ending as they had had it for over 5 months.. he agent marked it as a priority and I had a decision the next day xx

@OneTiredMumma84 sorry if this has already been answered or not quite what you were asking but even if you move to UC and your child is awarded DLA from a date back when you were on tax credits then tax credits will still give you the child disability element in a back payment from the date you were awarded DLA by to the date you've migrated over. Then UC will give you the additional amount from when you've been on UC

just received a text my little girl been awarded hrc and lrm till 2026 omg the wait has paid off scan date 28.2

Congratulations 🎊 Yes the wait did pay off for you and your daughter, after the long wait πŸŽ‰ sometimes I find people waiting longer gets looked at properly by DM and gets hrc and those who ask for priority, the DM rush and don't look into the claim properly. So end up getting mrc and then going for MR.

move still got to migrate over . Would I still be able to get it back dated by tax credits if I haven’t migrated yet? Just rechecked my letter and my date is august 15 but need to renew tax credits by July 31st so might aswell migrate then. I really don’t understand universal credit at all if I’m honest x

Iv found UC so much better than tax credit
My eldest has been on mrc for the last 7yrs and when we swapped to UC back in 2020 we were 300 a month better off
She's now been given advanced care on pip so will be eligible for the high disability element which is another 300 odd
I'm still waiting on my youngest dla claim week 13 today
Only took 5 weeks for my eldest claim

I feel they're very cryptic when they answer..I was told yesterday was with a decision maker which shocked me as only 10 week since Sd ..told today its not and it's in new claims department..

Maybe best ringing next week to clarify?
