It’s unbelievably stressful isn’t it. I’m still on hold 1 hour and 40 minutes later!

That’s dedication!!! I hate how long it takes. Let us know how you get on 🤞 x

My ASD son was of for a full week I called everyday to let them no he was physically and mentally drained I decided best place for him was to be at home. They turned up at my door to do a welfare check! Seriously! But you calnt help my child in school but soon quick to be at my door

She knows not to turn up at my door. And spesh not today!! Thing is hes barley off, hes a top grade student with no negative points. Hes been given awards by the head and also a mental health leader. Give the lad a break ffs. Freya on other hand shes off almost every week with her diabetes and her school is never on our back 🤔. This is why kids are suffering mentally. All the pressure put onto them. He is year 7 gets 5 pieces of homework a week. His history was 26 pages!!! Eh excuse me? Maths i have no idea what he is talking about 😬. If one piece isnt fully completed its 30min detention OR all day isolation wtf!!! Arghhhhhhhh!!!!!

Omg same as my son! He is year 7 tried getting a period 6 for not doing his maths homework! Told them don’t think so. His school day ends at 2:40 simple as that he isn’t staying any longer. It’s not the law and you calnt fine me for it.

I will. Do they usually take so long to answer? It’s been 2 hours now and I’ve got to go out soon x

It’s a stupid law- but if the school pushes they can detain pupils for detentions and the law allows it, and they have the power to escalate to a higher level of punishment (isolation/suspension) if the detention is not carried out- whether after school or not.

I definitely don’t agree with this law- but I worked at a school so just know about it…

I’ve known it to take up to 2 hours- but does seem a very long time now.. Just wondering if it is due to ‘technical difficulties’- as the other person said thats what affected their call as well earlier. x

Really! I would fight against it. He struggles masking for the time that he does. And then he is petrified of getting a period 6 but then calnt focus on his homework. Struggles with it. So it’s a loosing battle. I told his school support worker she said they could offer it during break or lunch. But then it’s taking his energy burning time of him.

Namechange303333311 · 01/05/2024 11:30

It just cut off after 2 bloody hours on hold. Can’t face trying again today x

Fee89 · 01/05/2024 11:37

@Fluffs95 @Kee3k Yup by law they can make them do it. And depending on how you respond they can call social services aswell. I get clever with my wording with the school. Plus they all know me from my eldest. 1. teacher is banned from teaching my son which is a french teacher so he does spanish 😂. 1. My husband hand to hold me back as i got in her face with a low tone (that means im about to punch you) girls threw stones at my daughter, this teacher said 'its girls just being girls'. Her old head of year is now max head of year 😂 and shes had a few words from me so now sucks. The senco is bloody AMAZING though. He lefts me shout and scream down the phone, giggles then ask if im good now lol.

I know- it’s awful.. the law basically says schools have the legal authority to detain a child for detentions and they do not need parental consent. I would fight it too if it happened to me and just turn up and take my child anyway. it’s ridiculous.

For them it’s power and punishment for not doing homework- but I don’t see how they can’t see the bigger picture and the impact it has on children. The worry… how draining it is on a child to mask all day. For children with SEN they need regular breaks- so to take that away could send them over the edge. It angers me! Like I said- it’s a ridiculous law- but just thought I’d let you know about it so you can be armed with info incase they ever do push it. Xx

Yes- definitely helps to be clever with wording!! I love how hard you fight for your kids! It needs to be done though. Glad you have an amazing SENCO- bet that helps a lot. There are some truly amazing teachers out there, but there are also sadly some awful ones who ruin school for kids. I know that there needs to be rules for all children to follow, but no child is the same so how you respond to each child can’t be the same either!

Hello. Is the line still having technical issues? My 5th time ringing this morn lol

Persianpoppy · 01/05/2024 12:22

Good afternoon!

been waiting to see if anyone's got any awards today!
@Fee89 Ive spoken with my son's consultant who said he's on board and agrees that my son requires DLA. The school on the other hand are acting like my son is fine. He masks well at school. So, the consultant is now going to be in touch with the school to give them a kick up the bum. He said the SEN team at the school are ridiculous if they can't see clear signs of autism and ADHD from my son. The consultant also said he only needs to spend 20 minutes with my baby to know and he also has a rare condition of epilepsy which is found in children that have autism.
I feel like it's the school that are delaying the process with my son's application. I have rang up DWP today who have stated it is definitely with DM and will take up to 5 days (not including bank holiday) to receive a decision. The lovely guy stated that my application along with others with the beginning of January scan date are being dealt with the DM now. Finger crossed by Friday next week, we'll have some news! 🤞🏼

looks like that’s 3 of us that have had to quit our jobs! Hope you both get positive answers from your calls x

I need my son's claim to hurry up so I can quit my job, I can't afford to give it up until I win the award to claim carers 😩

OneBrightBeaker · 01/05/2024 12:45

I couldn’t afford to quit my job, I worked so dam hard to get my degree but we had no other choice for the safety of our other children.
is careers allowance affected by your partner’s income? He earns too much for universal credit by peanuts

As hard as i am on the school, im always just as hard on my kids. If they are in the wrong il work with the school and suggest punishments for in school that i know they will learn from. My kids are far from perfect but education is important to us for the kids xx

I don't know how UC works as I'm not on it, I'm on the old tax credits system, I don't think carers is affected by other people's income as long as your below £139 a week income you can claim it.

Clf2024 · 01/05/2024 12:50

With my eldest sons care needs i went self employed so i could work from home and spend time with him but when i had my youngest, (extremely premature 24 weeker, lung disease, fully tube fed etc.), i had to stop working. Really i should have done this claim sooner as he is nearly 2 but its such a shame that there is a lack of provision for SEND children and so many of us have to leave work...

Scan date 16th Jan and hoping for a decision soon 🙌
