DLA WAITING TIME 2024

She also mentioned that he's a high achiever and doesn't require any support in school.
Why do they not release they mask and then have a complete meltdown when they get home!
I wish I hadn't called now x

He got declined, I have no fight left in me, it's been a struggle for years not being believed.
Because he masks so well at school they've said he can control it.
I'm devastated 😔 I've literally lost all hope 😭

Ohhh lass I’m gutted for you. Don’t give up though keep fighting. It will all come together sweet

Anxiouslywaitingmum · 24/04/2024 10:36

This has been my problem for the last 6/7 years.
I've never had the schools support because he masks.
I honestly just have no fight left.
Just another thing I feel I've not been believed with. If only the DM had called and maybe asked questions because it's hard to write it all down x

Don’t give up! I had exactly the same problem school never ever backed me with my son. Had it from year one to year 6 he finally got a diagnosis! And I had to rub it in schools face! Because his cahms referrals kept getting declined because of school! He didn’t get his adhd diagnosis because of school! I am appealing that also. They don’t like the paper work.. I don’t know what your area is but in mine the primary schools do not like to fork out for the extra help the children need so always wait till there nearly at secondary school

If you want to do a MR. Im happy to get some info from you, write the letter and send you it and give you key bits to print out to go with evidence xx

So she’s been awarded HRC (no mobility as she’s only 3 which I expected) until December 2025 😭 I was hoping for MRC so I’m absolutely over the moon for her. Scan date 8th Jan and decision was made 22nd April - just awaiting back pay and letter now🥰

Kaz87 · 24/04/2024 10:41

Persianpoppy · 24/04/2024 10:31

Do you reckon they have it on system when I last called? Because I feel like I might tell a little white lie and say, oh I've recently updated my number on system so was just worried you guys were not able to contact me in regards to a decision 🤓 how does that sound?! 😂 xx

Sounds great but either way i don't think you should even consider explain yourself you have every right to call whenever you pleased. Some people on here call on daily basis xx

I believe they wait till near secondary school because secondary schools get more funding than a primary school would and secondary schools push more because of that. The school never believed my sister either until my niece had a meltdown half way home and my sister didn't know what to do so she rung me. I told her to ring school as they still had duty of care and the head teacher met them and finally understood what my sister tried to tell them. Since then she has had more support xx

Oh no. I am genuinely absolutely gutted for you but please DO NOT give up. You know your child better than anyone and in your heart know what they deserve.

Does he have an official diagnosis and if so does his diagnosis report mention masking etc? Research has proved that children who mask at school are more likely to have more meltdowns and more troublesome behaviour at home because they have bottled their frustrations and anxiety up all day.

I would definitely do a MR and send in as much information about masking as you can find. Literally dumb it down for them as they clearly need to understand that just because he can ‘manage it’ at school it doesn’t mean he isn’t struggling massively inside and then in turn at home.

I think I am going to get the same outcome as you. My daughter is diagnosed with ASD but like your son she masks a lot at school. Again like your son she is a high achiever so only a small amount of support is in place which is mainly based around social skills and sharing her feelings.

Please keep fighting - you will get what you deserve and it will be so worth it in the end x

I need to start recording these calls and playing it back to them!
How is it yesterday I called and was told it was with DM last Friday and will have heard by Friday this week to now being told, there's still no update from DM and you'll be waiting until the ENDDD of May to the beginning of JUNE! 😭

CoralSheep · 24/04/2024 10:48

Also @Anxiouslywaitingmum if you feel they are not supporting you enough then I would go to the governors, have you tried early help hub? Not sure if they are a thing in your area but it might be worth a shot xx

@Anxiouslywaitingmum I'm so sorry for you, its so hard with neurodivergent children. We were told a 3 year wait for Local Authoroty assessments so paid 2 grand for private one. It's absolutely insane to me how they can make these decisions on a whim with no ideas of our lives xxx

Scan date also 08/01 so I am now thinking I should call..

Nervous

The woman seemed so unprofessional too! I could hear her puffing away, loads of noise in the background clearly working from home and she kept taking my sons NI wrong! I had to repeat the NI about 7 times!

Do anyone know how long uc take to sort back payment out for higher rate dla? And how much extra they give?

I informed them on the 10th and I'm still waiting.. they said it's no time frame unfortunately so could take weeks or months to sort out x

I didn't even bother asking her name! She was more concerned on whatever she was puffing! Could hear her chewing gum sooo loudly too 😭 DWP need to rethink who they hire as call handlers in my opinion!
usually I hear them type away whilst we answer security questions, but this one wasn't! X

I'm gutted for you :( literally my heart is breaking. Please please don't give up it took 6 years to get a diagnosis for my son I literally was at my whits end I just kept gathering evidence and just kept going back and forth you have to do it you have come so far please don't give up now. Try and gather every evidence you have again and look through and see what you can add anything that happens at home that's different what you've tried and been unsuccessful. Please try and find the fight it might just work out xxx

Now my daughter is a high achiver too and excels in school but that still doesn't stop her from starving herself and self harming. What's their point ? There's lot of kids being great at school but being completely different behind closed doors. Don't give up! Keep a diary and I know it sounds awful but maybe a video with your sons meltdown would change the outcome on MR ( I don't know if that's allowed tho) they wouldn't know unless they see it fir themselves. It's such a shit system! ❤️

I had the same issue with my son. They still believe he isn't ADHD or Autistic because he's a 'high achiever'.
Im not sure if you have access to this service, but I had put in a referral to Early Help. They are the ones that pushed the school although they were stubborn! You can also request the GP or any consultant under your child's care to push the school too.
a lot of these schools just can't be bothered and only take visible disabilities into consideration.
My son self harms and they were quick to alert Social Services when I had made them aware he'll claw at himself! I had social services involvement where I provided video proof and then slapped it back in the schools face!

Wwwmmm · 24/04/2024 10:58

Can someone help me calculate my son's rate please.
Forms sent 19/12/2023 when he turned 3 months old. Scanned 29/12/2023. Payment of £1,680.12 received 23/04/2024. Thank you
