Did anyone get awarded for children with Dyslexia?

1slamkh · 04/04/2024 17:10

UmElise · 04/04/2024 17:04

If they been awarded then they have been awarded 🤷🏽‍♀️ am not saying they didn’t get awarded. It’s just that some posts have their comments off on that group.

yeah, that’s great, but maybe they don’t want to be bombarded with notifs as they’ve got their reward and just wanted to give hope to people not to give up.

I just wanted to clarify, there is no need to be bitter about other people being rewarded before you. Some people have children with severe needs, which will definitely get prioritised first. Also, each DM has a different workload. Some are still working through Nov, whereas others are working through Jan. Just because you are not seeing posts from others does not mean it’s not happening. I.e. my son scan date was in Dec, and he got awarded whilst other people in Oct were still being awarded. We are ALL in the same boat, and rather than tearing each other down, we should be supporting one another. So please, do not compare your claim to another persons as their child be severely ill :) lets remember to be mindful and KIND! Thanks! :)

Completely agree with not tearing eachother apart over some getting their awards before others but in my personal opinion it has nothing to do with how ill a child is, if you’ve seen any of my comment my DD is severely ill and I’m still waiting from November, however I’m really happy for those who’s ride has been smooth sailing and just hope everyone gets what they deserve x

Summerrabbit · 04/04/2024 17:25

Well said @Taffylass72. I was thinking the same thing. I’m not sure it’s necessarily the case that those with more severe needs are prioritised. If you go on the basis of this thread then it’s more about giving people realistic expectations about how long they could be waiting. Of course they might hear earlier but I’d rather have my expectations set low than get my hopes up & be disappointed!

Poor him, hope it gets easier for you guys. My son also has the same as your son but he is 2 years behind his peers.

I been reading this post after applying for DLA and haven't came across anyone getting award for dyslexia,so am thinking would I be refunded

Emzi538 · 04/04/2024 17:32

I called again after my rude chap who said 20 weeks... I spoke to nice lady who said they had all the info (I sent reports appointments info from school and assessments school had done) she told me they are catching up however complex cases are taking more 20 weeks.. she told me dm can take up to 22 weeks to finalise and if they are unsure get another dm to check :-/

As difficult as it is to see how hard the process has been for some with longer waiting times and continuous set backs etc we all go through the same process and the way I’m choosing to look at it is to applaud the ones who didn’t have the same experience, regardless of a child’s disabilities all of these children deserve the best life we as parents can give and I’d take all the stress in the world to make my DD life a little easier even if it does become a whirlwind of stress fighting for it! Everyone’s experiences with DLA are their own and I for one will not sit back and be made to feel like this or that should have happened based on her having a severe illness Because that clearly doesn’t matter in the slightest, and by this I mean no disrespect to anyone, I just think being open and honest about the fact it makes no difference on how ill a child is and what their needs are, the only time that is brought into affect is if a child has been given a life expectancy and this is what I was told by DLA themselves x

Does your boy have an ehcp or pupil passport

People are now feeling as though they have to explain themself when infact we are all here for the same reason. We live our life having to explain our childrens needs and i wont be made to feel i have to explain how ill my child is. I for one will not be allowing an ill minded comment make me bite. We are all supportive on here and it will remain that way. We tag others to check their progress as we are hoping for them. Rude comments accusing others will be ignored. We come together every morning to see who has been awarded ready to be happy for them.

CornishMama2 · 04/04/2024 17:46

I think this group is super supportive of one another, read through the rest of the threads- everyone is super super nice.
We are commenting on the anon fb posts about awards being given two months earlier than the average wait time and comments being disabled.
We all know DLA have lied alot, you are with a DM, you will hear in a week, (weeks later) youve never been to a DM yet still in holding pile. Its experience.
Yeah special circumstances are absolutely different and would not be posted on fb about as a 'yeay' for getting DLA earlier.
I support all you guys who are waiting, espesh feeling for the Nov claims still here

Lauste84 · 04/04/2024 17:47

My scan date is 15/12. Been lurking for a while. I’m hoping to hear soon.

i feel quite deflated and I’m not sure why. In my head it’s already a no. Taking soooo long.

tbh I never imagined the wait times would be as long as they are, try not to feel deflated- know that theres lots of us here feeling the same as you and are here for support along the way

Thanks for the information,

Yes I have mentioned learning difficulties and also gave a letter from his SEND.co saying his on the School SEND Register list.

So fingers crossed 🤞🏻

It also depends on evidence. Maybe they need more info? My son scan date was 01/12. Whilst people from Oct still were being awarded, he got awarded. First claim. No phone call beforehand. But I definitely know that they look at the application before issuing a scan date to see if it needs to be prioritised as I’ve spoken to management directly myself. I.e. some kids have terminal illness, etc.

My intention was not to make anyone feel some sort of way. I’m only relaying what I was told by management?! But for people to start saying no way my claim was a day after scan date is absurd?! How about how I feel by reading that?! I only come on here to give others some hope… you don’t know my circumstances or my child’s circumstances, so please refrain from stating my comment was ‘ill minded’ from when someone else’s comment was very salty towards mine.

1slamkh · 04/04/2024 18:30

Was sent to a DM a day after scan date*

Yes I agree. I was told by management it depends on a child's needs i.e. they may be terminally ill? So for people to imply me lying about my claim was sent to a DM a day after scan date is crazy as they do not know anything about my child’s circumstances.

TiredTilly · 04/04/2024 18:38

@1slamkh Your message was not necessary. On this forum we have been supporting each other and checking up on one another. You have thrown a spanner that was not needed. We all have so much to deal with already and we come to this forum for support and assistance. This is not the place for you to make issues.

Just like you dont know any of our children's illness. You have taken spite from that person's comment made to you and appled it on others which is 'ill minded'. I'm sorry someone was rude to you but be assured everyone else on here will 100% be happy that your child got what they deserve. Im sure other's may of even asked you for help in what sort of evidence you sent etc. Not everyone is like that one comment.

Taffylass72 · 04/04/2024 18:53

Anyway… tomorrow is a new day and again I wish you all the very best and will keep my fingers crossed for us all🤞🏻🙏❤️

@Taffylass72 Have you asked for a managers call back? X

I have today yes, I swore to myself that I was just going to leave it but I’ve just been told that i need to provide the extra evidence that my DM has asked for , I asked what evidence they need as I physically have given everything and he could be specific because there was no notes left by DM other than “requested more evidence” and she’s on annual leave now so god knows what’s next for us x
