@KateLouise123 Hi, do you mind me asking what you applied for? My child is 15 also and most of them seem to be younger so was wondering if you’d applied for the same as me. Just to give me some hope I suppose.

Hey. She has suspected autism. Behaviour at home and school is horrendous. We've been in and out of therapy for a good few years, she masks, doesn't talk about how she feels etc.

But i think i was awarded for her toileting/personal care. She has issues with her bowels, still wears pullups when things get difficult. X

WhereDidTheTimeGo888 · 16/02/2024 15:22

@KateLouise123 isn't it dreadful that it takes so long and so much stress to even get to get put forward to get diagnosed?!

I can empathise behaviour wise. My child is in year 11 and pretty much hasn’t really been for much of it and not at all since Christmas. Most of his meltdowns were caused by going to school as he just couldn’t cope with that environment at all. When he’s not there and knows he doesn’t have to go, he’s like a different child. Toilet wise - he’s very last minute, as in doesn’t realise until it’s urgent. He’s the same when he’s hungry. Doesn’t know until he’s starving and that can be in the middle of the night. They did discuss that in after diagnosis care as well. Sorry for rambling on. Sometimes nice to talk to people who understand.

So glad you got your award. ❤️

I'm in the same position my daughter is 11 hasn't really been in school since Xmas she can't cope with the environment I'm at my wits end I don't no what to do she isn't great at communicating her feelings so it's hard to work out what support would help she's in year 7 can I ask what support do you get regarding school x

@Jessica0 it’s so stressful when they can’t manage to go to school. It took me a long time to stop worrying a lot about what the school would say.

Do you mean how does he do any lessons at home or what measures school had in place for when he was there or what are they doing now etc?

yeah does he learn at home or does he have things in place? I'm at that stage now where I'm worrying constantly about what school think or what there going to do it's so frustrating isn't it

WhereDidTheTimeGo888 · 16/02/2024 16:58

@Jessica0 Well tbh the majority of his teachers put stuff online but trying to get him to do anything at home to do with school is just a no and causes a meltdown. I can’t remember the last time he was able to do any homework. I’ve had to pay for 2 tutors for 3 subjects a week (which I can’t afford) because he’s coming up to his GCSE’s so I pretty much had no choice. I feel pretty much just left in the middle of nowhere all on my own and it’s incredibly hard so I really feel for you. He was getting himself in such a state I just thought I cannot keep doing that to him or I won’t have a child left to worry about. Making him go to an environment that is so overwhelming for him was making him ill. He was getting bad migraines/stomach migraines and really bad meltdowns most night and he just didn’t want to leave the house. He’s been seeing the private tutors now for around 3-4 weeks, some online and some at their home and I cannot tell you the improvement in him. The fact that he’s even went to their home is amazing.

I’m sorry If none of that is much help. I know how you’re feeling and it’s really hard, but you’re probably tougher than you think and you can only try your best. Xx

WhereDidTheTimeGo888 · 16/02/2024 17:11

@Jessica0 when I say his teachers put stuff online, it isn’t anything extra for him. Just the usual stuff that’s there for all the students.

It's such a hard situation isn't it she begs me to home school but I don't feel it's right thing to do at this point some weeks she goes some she doesn't I'm pushing for a partial timetable to see if this relieves any pressure, yes my daughter can assess homework but I've the same problem as you will just cause a meltdown end of day we are both doing our best for them and what ever makes life easier for all of us is the way forward xx
