I’ve been waiting 14 weeks now. I have had one letter ages ago saying they have received my claim and are looking at it, nobody has asked for my son’s birth certificate or anything like that.
does that mean they’re mega far behind and I’ve got ages yet to wait???

It's completely hit and miss from my experience, all I can say my original scam date for first claim was 5/02 3 weeks later I had a letter saying 15 weeks and day later asking for birth certificate, mine was done just before 16 weeks, the day after it went to a DM he was awarded which was 22/05, I'm now doing a COC from 7/06 for mobility side, I'm sure if you ring up they are still saying upto 20 weeks for a new claim. The birth certificate is just lottery lucky if you get asked straight away some that I know get asked when it goes to a DM aswell and get asked straight away so it's just pot luck if you get asked or not

Sarahoscar · 10/07/2024 07:33

thank u

Squishmallow01 · 10/07/2024 07:48

So does everyone get asked to provide their child’s birth certificate or is this hit and miss? Thanks xx

They don't always ask for a birth certificate, my son was awarded last August and I've never sent his birth certificate. I'm week 15 of a coc, I'd give it another couple of weeks before I chase it up

SENtwinmum · 10/07/2024 08:58

I think you only get asked to send your child's birth certificate if they can't verify their identity through child benefit for whatever reason ☺️

Thanks for your replies, good to know.
Those with experience, in your opinion if he has an EHCP and several assessment reports that confirm he needs constant supervision, wakes at 4.30am every day, is he likely to be considered for mid or high rate care? Thanks xx

My son has an ehcp and was awarded mrc no mobility as he was 4 when I applied. He doesn't have any night time needs either, so it could go either way

Squishmallow01 · 10/07/2024 12:22

@Snoweymum thanks for your reply, does 4.30am not count as night time needs though as I was under the impression night time is classed as when the rest of the household would usually be asleep as in between 11pm-6.30am etc? I definitely didn’t used to start every day at 4.30am and only do now because of needing to supervise my son as he roams about!

I'm doing a COC, the last I heard was an MR from the new scan date is from 12 to 16 weeks but you will get a letter saying about 11 weeks. Even if you do it over the phone it takes a few weeks to go back through the system to get a new scan date, hope that helps

Long time for mr 10 weeks so far altogether 28 weeks some people on Mr page waiting months

I did phone but still sent letter explaining why I disagree sent that record and signed for

if you got health team get them to write too as I sent all evidence with my daughter still refused but with my other daughter no evidence got it which is stupid one as adhd and Tourette’s verbal and my other daughter I’m fighting for who got bowel problems and asd

think some don’t read the evidence properly it’s long waiting game but fight it for your child even if my Mr don’t go through I will keep going

Mummyof3safire · 12/07/2024 21:09

I don’t see how it jumped from 8 to 15 weeks so quickly . Like you say a long waiting game x

I got message saying 4 week I was happy then letter saying 15 week 🤦‍♀️ then I called couldnt even tell me day or how many weeks 😂

Squishmallow01 · 13/07/2024 10:10

So what is the average wait time for a first claim? I’m on week 15 now. Just had one letter ages ago confirming they’d received my claim and were looking at it.
Also please can anyone advise, is a child waking up between 4-4.30am for the day classed as night time care needs? Thanks xx

Anywhere from 16-20 weeks is average it just depends on who's DM pile you end up with I guess and if they need more info and that could take a while for them to collect that, my claim was 16 weeks and 1 day, it went to a DM on week 16 and the day after I was awarded so it's all different, yeah that time is classed as night time. They class 11pm-7am as night time needs

Vixx1 · 13/07/2024 16:08

It just depends on each case, what evidence you sent etc, there is no time scale some are quicker then others.

Vixx1 · 13/07/2024 17:24

Thanks, well they did say no mark on claim as they have enough evidence, Cancer and Lupus for my daughter think is enough said.
Just waiting game now hope DM can make decision quicker. Wasn't sure if there was a timescale once with DM.But on average how soon people get decisions do u know?

My Son was awarded last year, I think it took 16 weeks, I rang on the Monday and it wasn't even with a dm but was awarded 3 days later so mine was pretty quick with a dm. I'm currently on a 16 week wait for a coc. Hoping you get a decision soon, I'm sorry you're going through that, Wishing your daughter a speedy recovery 🙏

Vixx1 · 13/07/2024 20:14

Thanks love for replying appreciated.
And thank u for kind words.
I dont like to chase up but we need money for travelling for treatment twice a week and is 3h drive to London hospital. Just because her cancer is not terminal she is treated as normal claim. But she is in blast phase for chronic myeloid leukaemia where need treatment twice a week so can put in to remission. Unfortunately the charity for cancer patients çould only support for 1st month and i had to give uo my job last 16years been working due to this.Hb doing overtime to cover costs and cannot support her during this difficult time emotionally.
Hope we get answer soon as this is gonna make it a lot easier for our daughter.
Wish u all the best and ur child.
Whats coc?

Change of circumstances. I think children with Cancer should be fast tracked regardless, the whole dla process just takes to long.

Vixx1 · 13/07/2024 21:46

Oh i see now.I see lot of poats about coc didn't have a clue.Fingers cross u get what ur child deserves 🥰
Yes absolutely agree. She is protected by law for the rest of her life but the process doesn't make it easier chemotherapy and her two conditions each one of them has sides effects and struggling on daily basis .
System is messed up parents need to explain to clueless person who make decisions what child goes tru everyday..amd what care we give is unbelievable

Sunnybird87 · 14/07/2024 10:21

Hello Ladies,

I am new here. My 10y old son has ASD and he had a DLA few years ago, but than I had to send them new renewal form , but it was during the covid time so I didn't. I was stupid because than I forget about and they were stopped DLA.
Finally this year I applied for new one and I received letter that they have my application and it was scanned on 6/6/24.
Still I am waiting for any news, I am in big financial trouble and I have a big hope for fast decision.
Good luck all u loves mummies with fast getting of positive decisions for DLA for your little ones!! Xx
