DLA renewal taking ages

I was wondering if anyone has been waiting a long time to hear back about a renewal?
I send my forms back middle of dec and I got a letter about a two months ago saying they had received my forms.
I've not heard anything since.
DLA is due to stop on the 21st march and
I have now received a letter saying my carers allowance will be stopped on the 21st march as well.

Renewals are looked at in order of the end date rather than the order the renewal forms are returned. I wouldn’t worry yet, there are times over the last year or so where renewals haven’t been looked at until the week the award ends.

UB40andaglassofwine · 06/03/2023 12:40

@FloatingBean thank you for letting me know

If you can face it, I would be tempted to try and call them. As the PP has said, I've also heard that the DWP is so snowed under, they're looking at the claims that are expiring within days.
It's awful to put people through this, esp. as DLA can be such an important benefit for some people in terms of what it's tied up with.

When I've tried to ring them, I've been on hold for around 45mins to an hour so do factor that in if you can. They should be looking at your claim any day now and if you call them, they may be able to give you an update.

I'm not sure what sort of post the DLA uses but I've found it can take up to two weeks for letters to arrive from them.

@Toomanyminifigs thank you for your help.
I did call them and was on hold 45 minutes like you said I would be. She told me exactly what you told me, and I'm just hoping it will all be sorted before it stops.
It's never taken this long for a renewal before, so I think I've just been lucky in the past

Not so much lucky in the past, but rather the system is far more stretched now meaning it takes much longer.

Snickerdoodles19 · 14/03/2023 18:35

@UB40andaglassofwine hi, my current award ended today, I phoned them this morning and was awarded on Saturday 11th so yes very close to end date

UB40andaglassofwine · 14/03/2023 19:22

@Snickerdoodles19 mine ends on the 21st does carers allowance just carry on? Or will I have to start a new claim as that's stopping on the 21st too.
Sorry if I sound stupid, but not sure how it works as my renewals have never taken this long before.
I'm glad you got yours sorted :)

@UB40andaglassofwine from what I’ve read regarding carers its a standard generic letter that gets sent out when it’s time to end, phone them and explain the situation with dla I’m sure there’s a 1 month time frame for carers to be notified by dla

Abwill · 15/03/2023 14:11

Ours ends on the 21st too , I've rang and got the same response 😞 it's annoying when you wait so long that it has to be so close to the actual date does l any one know if awarded does the new payment start on that day or is it the old payment that they owe you in arrears , trying to budget but not knowing what will be awarded doesn't help 😩

Snickerdoodles19 · 15/03/2023 14:27

@Abwill it depends when your payment date is, I wasn’t supposed to receive my payment until next Tuesday but they paid it me a week early so I had a payment of 3 weeks due to the old award ending on Tuesday 14th so my next payment will be 4 weeks on so 11th April due to new award

Snickerdoodles19 · 15/03/2023 14:28

@Abwill dont be alarmed if you get a payment that doesn’t add up as it may just be the remaining payment on the old award

Abwill · 15/03/2023 15:27

Ahh okay so hopefully we should be okay for budgeting, the payment is due on the day it runs out thanks for replying x

Abwill · 16/03/2023 12:09

I really want to call again but it's a good hour to be told ring after the 21st 😩 anyone heard anything

UB40andaglassofwine · 18/03/2023 13:01

@Abwill have you heard yet? I still haven't heard anything. I usually get my carers allowance on a Monday so I'll not be getting that next week either. This is so bloody stressful. I sent my forms back last December in plenty of time.
I use my carers allowance for my son's transportation

@UB40andaglassofwine when is your current award up?

UB40andaglassofwine · 18/03/2023 13:13

@Snickerdoodles19 on the 21st Monday coming

OP posts:
Abwill · 18/03/2023 13:15

Heard nothing I rang on Thursday got a really nice man that said if it's not done by Monday we will poke them with a sharp stick but it should be , so I'm going to call tomorrow because I'm impatient 🤣 CA I'm the same I get paid on a Monday but mine runs out on the 28th so I get a extra week thankfully as it's been a extremely tight month with everything rocketing, I think that on top is what's stressing me to hear back I need to budget and make sure we have enough to cover son's classes and everything else x

Abwill · 18/03/2023 13:15

Not tomorrow Monday lol

Abwill · 20/03/2023 10:24

@UB40andaglassofwine Hiya I've rang this morning still not even looked at genuinely I don't no why we supply them.with all these numbers of our specialists ect because they must just look at what we wrote and make a decision on that within a hour or so it's ridiculous x

UB40andaglassofwine · 20/03/2023 12:50

@Abwill hiya, that is just ridiculous! I really hope you hear something soon.
I'm in a queue to chat to someone right now. I'll let you know how I get on x

UB40andaglassofwine · 20/03/2023 13:18

@Abwill I've just got through and was awarded last Friday for the same amount my son was already receiving for the next 5 years. I really hope you get yours sorted very soon. It is stressful not knowing and having to try and budget all outgoings x

Snickerdoodles19 · 20/03/2023 13:22

@UB40andaglassofwine so happy for you!

Loki197 · 26/03/2023 19:02

My renewal is taking so much longer than normal I’m relieved to find this thread as i thought something was wrong. I sent to form on 26th Jan and when I called them last week it still hadn’t been looked at. It ends next week and I’ve had a letter stating carers allowance will end too. It usually only takes 4-6 weeks for all previous renewals ( about 4 times)

Abwill · 26/03/2023 23:14

Hi @Loki197 mine was done the day it ended 😩 but backdated the difference from when I sent it it we went from MRC to HRC x

Loki197 · 27/03/2023 14:22

Hi @Abwill thanks so much for letting me know. Mine runs out on Friday so will wait until then to call them. So glad you got an increase in your award x
