They have quite a few sleep meds up their sleeves carrie it also pisses me off they don’t tell parents any of this stuff until you are practically on the verge of putting your kids up for sale!

Now in this area to obtain melatonin it’s mandatory to do a 4 session sleep hygiene course, which consists of, don’t let your child have their iPad for 2 hours before bed, warm bath, lavender and fluffy pillows and warm milk and lights out crap! Fuck off!

CAMHS have a few different ones they use, they use chloral hydrate for one, Ds hasn’t had this but they have mentioned that they would try this in future, I don’t know what it is I haven’t researched.

Ds gets melatonin liquid (£44 a bottle x 1 a month) and atomoxetine (£85 a bottle x 2 a month although as his dose increases that will be x 3 a month) I have had pharmacy saying the same, not for melatonin we don’t get that from there that’s the hospital chemist, but for the atomoxetine. She said before will he not take tablets? The liquid is expensive and it’s difficult to order in. No he won’t take tablets dippy that’s why it says LIQUID. I think to myself, I don’t care how much it costs? Dh works and pays a fortune in tax / ni etc.

I also think about the cost of his school that the LA pay, I pay £170 a month council tax so fuck off! 🤣

Im pleased this new one is working better for ds sleep x

Thanks but after last night I'm not keen to try him on anything else strong tbh. I was quite scared the first couple of times that he was having a bad reaction to it as he was making some strange noises and it was all very strange. His cold will lessen in the coming days and I also got some Piriteze which I expect will be a more gentle anti-histamine for him if we need it. I'd be keener to try him on 3mg of melatonin than anything else.

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 16/05/2022 17:29

I don’t think phenergan is strong Open, how much did he take? It is just an antihistamine that can help with sleep. But yes, I’d def increase the melatonin … 2mg is nothing.

pollen counts are high at the moment apparently!

openupmyeagereyes · 16/05/2022 17:52

Maybe you didn't see my earlier post? We had an awful night after he took it, I am not giving it to him again. Like any medication, it has potential side effects. I only intended it for a couple of days while he has this cold, I never intended to use it every night anyway.

danni0509 · 16/05/2022 19:26

Ds trampoline has broken again. God am pissed.

Same thing happened that happened last year, the jump mat has tore off at the seams. I don’t know if it’s got anything to do with him being a hardcore bouncer but I don’t buy cheap ones so I expect them to last more than a year!

It can’t be a fault with the product as the last one and this one are two totally different brands. Yet the same thing has happened to both.

Ive emailed smyths with pictures to see if they will replace it, but if not I’ll have to buy another one.

His iPad is also on its last legs…… but they are things I have to have for him for my own sanity….

OP posts:
danni0509 · 16/05/2022 19:35

His iPad is 4 years old though, and has been used daily, so can’t complain as it’s lasted a good while.

School are boring me as per usual. Email earlier, ds did some good work this morning but has ‘been very hyper and has needed lots of adult intervention to keep him calm’

Two things, he has adHd clue is in the capital letter! And he’s in a special school so I imagine he does need lots of adult intervention.

I get emails like this often, they can’t press send without putting a negative paragraph in there somewhere!

Friday it was, ‘Ds has had a good day overall BUT has needed lots of adult support to make good choices’

To me though, as long as he’s making the good choices? Who cares how it’s being made possible. He doesn’t make good choices at home unless I micromanage him, I don’t focus on the micromanagement though it’s the good choices I care about.

Genuine question, do you think they are OTT or am I? Just can’t gauge if that’s to be expected all the nit picking.

Ive stopped replying to those types, if they message me a positive message, I say Thanks for your email. If it’s got a negative bit on I just ignore.

Ah yes I see now Open! I just read the one about trying the phenergan. I think everything does have side effects, I would say that massively about DSs adhd meds. I think with everything, if you can cope without then that’s for the best.

Danni you are being very reasonable!! that would annoy me too…

livpotter · 17/05/2022 07:02

How's ds today open? Hope you've had better sleep?

Danni I always used to say that when ds was younger he would have made an amazing toy tester! He used to test everything to destruction. iPads also don't seem to last as long as they used to. Very irritating for something so expensive.
I'm glad the new medication is working so well.

Hope everyone else is ok. I've been a bit quiet as I have my final essay for the year due in in two weeks! Also I get to go and see ds in his first ever play at school this week which I'm super excited about!

openupmyeagereyes · 17/05/2022 08:06

liv that’s so exciting. I hope you all really enjoy it.

danni I think a more helpful approach would be for them to half-termly say we are working on x, y & z with ds (making better choices, whatever) and then only update with stuff they absolutely have to rather than complaining every day. If this stuff is all outlined in his EHCP then it’s really not a surprise to them, or you.

We had a better night in that he slept through, though he was up at 3:20. Preferable to being woken hourly! He’s still very snotty so going to keep him off today too, am hoping it’s a bit better tomorrow.

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 17/05/2022 09:55

That’s exciting Liv, let us know how it goes!

I definitely need to put my brain in gear, I just started to type to Susan that I was glad she enjoyed date night and who was it? Though that would make a good story!! When you say camping Susan do you mean tent or static? DD is desperate to try it but I’m not a great camping type which is a shame as I know it’s great fun. Does DS enjoy? I also worry about DS and the toilet, Susan I’m not sure you have said if DS has any issues re that, does he not?

hope he’s settled down at school. Any reason for the change do you think? It remains a source of frustration with us when DS has a good run but then seems to change for no obvious reason. With DD I can always pinpoint but with DS it’s inexplicable sometimes. I remember once reading an article linking behaviour changes with specific things such as pollen count interestingly! Think it was in autism eye. But who knows?!

danni0509 · 17/05/2022 11:29

Liv what are you studying? Good luck with your essay. I hope you enjoy ds school play, how lovely x

Smyths have emailed me back and said that should not happen after 1 year, (I didn’t mention my kids a lunatic on it 😭) so they are going to replace the jump mat etc but if they don’t have that part in stock they will send us a new trampoline out. So I’m happy with that so either way ds can get back to bouncing very soon.

My other sister is in labour, my mum is her birth partner so I’m getting live updates, keeping me entertained for the day anyway! 🤣

OP posts:
SusanStoHelitsPoker · 17/05/2022 12:43

Exciting @livpotter and good luck with the essay!
Glad your night was slightly better @openupmyeagereyes
Well done for getting the replace the mat @danni0509 trampolines are not cheap!! Nor ipads! Good luck to your sister, exciting!
@carriebradshawwithlessshoes haha was of course with DH! Was lovely but DS still up when we got back at 11.30 so he slept too much the next night then couldn't sleep again last night blah blah! I dont think the light nights and the heat help much either! I think we are all looking forward to half term now, only just under 2 weeks.
We go glamping really but its not that glam, an old pixie hut, but we've been loads so DS knows it well. He still gets anxious though etc. I wouldn't trust him in a tent tbh and I hate tents anyway but glamping is nice as we can gave a fire, toast narshmallows, look at the stars etc, but then sleep in a bed (although all of us will squash in the double I imagine!) We take lits of torches and snacks. DS constantly says he needs the loo then tries to disappear into the games room area do I might suggest nature wees this time!! Anyway, it all makes a change!

openupmyeagereyes · 17/05/2022 15:06

Wishing a fast and safe delivery for your dsis danni.

openupmyeagereyes · 17/05/2022 15:08

Has anyone used Scratch (computer coding) at home with the dc?

livpotter · 17/05/2022 16:28

Law danni. Great news about the trampoline!

Sorry about the early morning open as you say at least it was a less broken night.

Glamming sounds fun susan.

Ds's play has been postponed to next week. I wonder whether ofstead have surprised the school this week. It's overdue a visit. Can't imagine many other reasons for pushing it back a week.

livpotter · 17/05/2022 16:28

Oh yes good luck to your sister danni. I must say nothing on earth would induce me to have another baby!

danni0509 · 17/05/2022 18:38

Baby was born just after 2pm. Little girl, weighed 8lb.

I had live commentary from my mum throughout the day. From 5 this morning.

Including the crucial moment at 2.04pm.

‘heads out’

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I wrote a long post before this one and lost it, about ds school, no energy to write it again. Wankers.

liv same! I’m glad I no longer have Fallopian tubes, if I did have I would be in the shed sawing them out by hand. 😂

No thank you!

openupmyeagereyes · 17/05/2022 19:09

Ah, lovely danni. I was just going to ask the name, forgot where I was 🤣

SusanStoHelitsPoker · 17/05/2022 19:14

Aww congrats @danni0509

danni0509 · 17/05/2022 19:37

Thank you, I’m going to steal her Thursday morning for a cuddle when ds has gone to school.

I love them when they are born, so small and sweet. Just preferable when they belong to somebody else!

Ive got ds kicking off tonight because he wants me to buy him a green wheelchair. Hmm

OP posts:
openupmyeagereyes · 17/05/2022 20:10

Why do they get these things in their heads? Ds kicked off yesterday because he wants a retired Lego set Hmm

dimples76 · 17/05/2022 20:30

Congratulations Danni! Sorry about school probs again

Good luck with the final push on the assignments Liv

Had a brief chat with DS's 1:1 today she was suggesting that DS could maybe go swimming twice a week for the rest of term as there is space for him to go with the year above which I think is a great idea. She said he'll just be missing history which he doesn't participate in any way I had emailed his class teacher to see what proportion of classes he does with his class but she hasn't replied yet ...

dimples76 · 17/05/2022 20:36

Good luck dealing with those requests Open and Danni! For his birthday next month DS has requested an electric projector screen - not to watch things on, just to put it up and down

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 17/05/2022 20:59

Congrats to your sister Danni and enjoy the cuddle! I could have had more kids, deffo a third at least but having our 2 at 36 and 39 then all the issues with DS has put paid to that, sadly. I’m always intrigued with Alex Jones (the One Show) who had her third at my age then remind myself I must be bonkers.

too late sadly, the ship has sailed!

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 20/05/2022 09:11

Argh…. DSs new school called to arrange some transition days before September. Apparently he is going into a ‘lovely class’ with a lot of verbal children. She said would he be fine in the classroom on the transition days without his (current awful who I don’t want to involve) one to one?

im being silly maybe but just feel really nervous. I don’t think he will do anything much in a classroom full stop… are they expecting this? Also he’s going to seem very different verbally to his peers isn’t he… is that the right grouping for him?

DH saying I’m being silly but I don’t want them to expect more than what they will get. I don’t know if she could detect my nervousness as she said she thought I would be pleasantly surprised with what they couid do with him. I did think argh you haven’t met him yet? What do you think you are getting???

just argh! I’ve got to stop worrying though haven’t I and let them crack on… or not??!
