This is the continuation of the thread for parents and carers of autistic children in Early Years and KS1. Most of us are parents of children in Reception or Year 1, but all welcome!

Is everyone still going to school today?

Hope everyone is well. I'll keep you updated with ds school and let you know when I hear we are closing,

My sister in law had an email from her head this weekend to say she's fully expecting closures by Friday of this week and to make sure all work for home learning is completed.

LightTripper · 16/03/2020 10:22

The school over the road from me was closed this morning due to a staff member self-isolating (pretty sure that is not policy but the sign said they are waiting for advice from the local Learning Trust).

DD is still in but I am kind of assuming this will be the last week. Not sure how we will juggle work. I'm not crazy busy now but have some big deadlines in a couple of months so need to front load a bit as I may be doing a lot of childcare as between us self-isolating and our nanny and/or her flatmate self-isolating, it could be a long period of no childcare coming up at some point!

I kept ds off today as early morning it seemed we were both getting a cough but it’s turned out to be nothing. I’m feeling bad about that because although I am concerned I don’t want him to miss out. If we end up going into lockdown he will struggle being an only child. After a week at home with chicken pox he was desperate to see other children Sad

openupmyeagereyes · 16/03/2020 13:09

Half of his class are off though based on WhatsApp.

LightTripper · 16/03/2020 14:30

Only about half of DD's class were there this morning I reckon....

Sorry, accidentally named DD - have reported to MNHQ! I was going to say, only about half of DD's class were in today by the look of the line up (we were flinging ourselves in last minute, as usual!)

I’ve reported it too Light, hopefully they’ll edit it soon.

It’s so nice outside. Very grateful to have a garden today.

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 15:47

I always nearly post ds name either that or refer to him as ds in real life! Haha.

I often wonder what all your children are called x

openupmyeagereyes · 16/03/2020 15:52

danni sometimes I think of dh as dh Grin

LightTripper · 16/03/2020 16:14

Thanks they fixed it!!
Yes, lovely day!! Pity I am in the office trying not to obsess about CV and instead do some work while I actually have childcare....

So many times I have accidentally included DS's name.

At pick up I saw DS's TA making a bee line for me and started praying that it wasn't about a cough. Fortunately not - it was to say that they have made DS a book about returning to school (they normally do one for the hols) they are also really kindly creating some other additional resources for him to bring home.

DS had an eye test this morning (he already wears glasses). They are worried that his sight might be getting worse in one eye. It was a bit hard to see how reliable the test was as DS was giving some pretty off the wall answers, e.g. he said a picture of an apple was a house! My poor boy, he has enough to contend with, with poor hearing and sight.

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 16:20

@dimples76 did you include ds name? I've reported just incase.

dimples76 · 16/03/2020 16:48

Clearly losing the plot here Danni Thank you!

openupmyeagereyes · 16/03/2020 16:48

I've reported too!

openupmyeagereyes · 16/03/2020 16:49

Waiting for Boris...

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 16:50

Haha it's ok dimples it did make me laugh. When you said I always accidentally write ds name then next paragraph** there it was Grin

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 16:51

No idea why I added stars to my last post.

Yes me to open I'm bathing ds upstairs I asked Dh to turn the volume right up so I can hear it rather than see it!

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 16:52

I don't want to particularly see his face anyway!

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 16:56

Boris, not Dh. Although the latter sounds good too Grin

openupmyeagereyes · 16/03/2020 17:00

No school closures unless I missed it while ds was jabbering

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 17:58

I'm confused by it all.

dimples76 · 16/03/2020 17:59

I know the irony Danni! I blame Light, she is a role model so I think that I was subconsciously copying. Had a good laugh at myself.

I have to just wait til BJ's speeches are reported - can't bear to watch/listen

openupmyeagereyes · 16/03/2020 18:20

I didn’t vote for him but this really is a lose/lose situation. Nobody wants something like this on their watch. It’s unprecedented.

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 19:27

I might aswell be giving ds 4mg of water in his syringe! His new dose is having no effect at all.

How old are you all if you don't mind me asking? That's another thing I've always wondered. I'm 31 next week. Although I must admit I feel much older!

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 19:28

Obviously feeling older as ds has aged me if that wasn't already obvious Grin
