Harley I’m so sorry you are all having such an awful time. Your ds sounds like his needs could totally be met in a ms school if only they were willing to make reasonable adjustments. I’m wondering if you should post for advice from more seasoned parents on the SN Chat board about the best course of action. I’m at a loss I’m afraid Flowers

openupmyeagereyes · 12/12/2019 14:13

Little exciting about dd’s party invite. I’m sure they will understand. Hopefully she can go in and enjoy the panto tomorrow.

liv I’m sorry ds didn’t manage his play and also that you have a horrid cold. Hopefully ds won’t catch it.

Ds did not go to school, he’s currently asleep on the sofa. I honestly had doubts yesterday he was ready to go back and after his very early start he looks like death warmed up. Hopefully he can go in tomorrow and then recover more over the weekend. He finishes on Wednesday.

I’m feeling a lot better today. I still have a headache and sore throat but drugs are mostly keeping it in check. I have so much Christmin and general housework to catch up on but not much motivation. I wrote all of ds’ cards and most of ours this morning at least so that’s one job done. The living room is littered with toys...

I’m looking forward to popping out later to vote and collect some groceries 😂. We had a brief trip out yesterday but have mostly been stuck inside so I’m a bit stir crazy.

danni0509 · 12/12/2019 15:52

I didn't get the Christmin thing, I was thinking it was a word I'd not heard of.

Then it clicked, admin & Christmas, christmin! Of course. Grin

danni0509 · 12/12/2019 15:54

Hope ds is better soon open & you too. X

LittleSwede · 12/12/2019 18:45

I love this new word - Christmin! (My phone keeps trying to correct it!) Today I just added addresses to all the cards I made DH write at the weekend, does that count as Christmin Smile?

Must admit, haven't done cards with DD for school yet, blame it on her being unwell. Need to buy some cute small ones.

SIL is doing Christmas Eve boxes for DNephews and DD so that the three of them can open them together. A lovely idea but I'm glad I'm not in charge of organising these Confused otherwise it's a low key Christmas here so not too much Christmin to sort!

LittleSwede · 12/12/2019 18:46

Hope to feel a bit better open, hopeful your DS is well enough to go in tomorrow and you can have a rest.

openupmyeagereyes · 12/12/2019 20:32

I have put (out of date) snuffle babe on ds’ chest and feet. Hopefully that will help and he sleeps better tonight 🙏 Now just waiting for him to actually fall asleep!

I’m supposed to meet a friend for Christmas shopping tomorrow so no rest. I’ve had to cancel various things this week already.

Little that definitely counts as Christmin Xmas Smile

MapLand · 12/12/2019 23:54

Just trying to catch up!

Harley you and your DH are doing an amazing job for your DS by sticking at all the phone calls and emails until you get what DS needs. Keep going, don't give up. Well done to your DH for telling them they completely contradicted themselves.

danni0509 · 13/12/2019 10:46

Ds Christmas yr 1 assembly over with thank god! Always provokes massive anxiety in me because I know just how unpredictable he is, I always have visions of him shoving all the kids off the stage in front of a hundred parents.

He only came in for the last 2 songs and rocked out with another special needs boy at the front, on the video you can just hear ds shouting the other boys name and then mummy you sing it, I was at the back and he couldn't see me so he was shouting for me to sing. But if I had of sung and he'd of seen me he would of had a meltdown, he tells me to sing then absolutely freaks when I do. I would love to understand how their minds work sometimes? Lol.

All done now anyway, phewww!

LittleSwede · 13/12/2019 11:31

danni I love the image of your DS rocking out at the front! How cute! Smile

Hopefully the snuffle rub helped open.

I sent DD in today but gave her teacher instructions to call me if she thinks DD is struggling, which she said she'd do. She has still got massive tonsils but they don't seem to bother her so much now and she had a massive bowl of porrige this morning so fingers crossed she'll be ok. I just thought that if I'd kept her at home today she would have really struggled to get back in on Monday. Still feeling a bit guilty though!

LightTripper · 13/12/2019 14:22

I tend to send DD in if she's borderline Little: she always seems to end up having a nice day, and I trust the school that they would send her home if she was fading.

I hope you had a better night too open - you could do with some health-vibes coming your way!! ~>~>~>~>~>~>~>~>~>~ Hope you feel up to a bit of shopping today and have a nice time.

DD did her nativity this morning. She really loved it and managed to do her lines (though I think she needed a bit of a nudge for the second one because she was manically thumbs-upping to us Grin Grin. She was waving and thumbs upping about every 10-20 seconds through the whole thing, which I suspect was a bit of an overwhelm thing, but happy overwhelm so I'm happy! When I think that last year she couldn't do a line and was really hiding away, it's amazing how much she's grown in confidence!

She managed to do the cards too though it was very hard work (only started when I got home from work) and meant a very late bedtime because they all had to be done just so.... but the teachers seemed to really like them, so all good!

Quite a lot of Christmin to do this weekend (wrapping, cards) but all good I think (we're having a quiet one - just doing OH's carol concert and seeing my sister for lunch on Sunday, so lots of timing chilling at home I hope!)

Whoop whoop to your DD light Star great that she enjoyed it so much! Sounds like you have a nice weekend planned.

LittleSwede · 13/12/2019 14:50

And thanks for the reassurance re sending DD in, I'm such a worrier!

openupmyeagereyes · 13/12/2019 17:14

I posted this on a thread in the Christmas board but I thought I’d copy it here to. So heartwarming Xmas Smile

I wanted to highlight a chocolate company that is providing employment and work experience for young people with autism. If you are in the market for some hand crafted, artisanal chocolate then please consider ordering from them.

openupmyeagereyes · 13/12/2019 17:15

Argh, too not to.

openupmyeagereyes · 13/12/2019 18:12

danni I’m glad the assembly went well and that ds really enjoyed the bit he attended. It’s so sweet he was calling for you to sing. Ds doesn’t like us singing either, of course it’s all right for him to Hmm

Little I told the school exactly the same about ds today. I hope she had a good day.

Light your dd’s thumbs upping is adorable. I’m so glad she enjoyed it and that her confidence has grown.

Ds woke up with a sore throat today but magically perked up after calpol so he went into school and they dosed him up through the day. I think he had a good day though he was flagging from 2ish (the office called me).

He had a better nights sleep, thank goodness though I am still a bit restless unfortunately. Hoping for better nights this weekend. I bought some new snufflebabe! 🤞

LittleSwede · 13/12/2019 19:21

I like the looks of those chocolates open might make a nice gift for DD's godparents! Glad you had a slightly better night.

DD had a 'brilliant day' as her teacher wrote in the communication boom. They watched a Panto and although DD thoroughly enjoyed it we had a meltdown literally as soon as we got in the door after school. Followed by a couple more! Hopefully a restful weekend will help her recover.

dimples76 · 13/12/2019 20:38

Ugghh DS and I have a stomach bug.

Good to read that the nativities have been going well.

Hope all the poorly ones are on the mend soon. We are having a quiet weekend so. hopefully all will be well next week when there's a school trip (I'm going too), school party and Church service ....what could possibly go wrong

openupmyeagereyes · 13/12/2019 21:48

Little I hope you wrote a note about the meltdowns in the comms book - the cost of her ‘brilliant day’. I hope she’s settled now.

dimples oh no, poor you and ds. I hope you can recover this weekend Flowers

It’s a busy 3 days at school here too next week though apparently ds isn’t going Hmm

MapLand · 13/12/2019 22:10

Christmas concert done, so relieved! DS wound up like a spring beforehand but did great. Phew!

LottieBalloo · 13/12/2019 23:04

Hi all sorry I haven't been keeping up with the posts
DH has had bad chest infections for a few months and finally admitted to a hospital ward from a and e on Wed. Suspected pneumonia, flu, and tb poor love. So that's been interesting!!
DS constantly asking where daddy is and not himself. Also a bit poorly with cold and conjunctivitis. Did his play today though, totally smashed it as an angel. His ta took him out after the Angel's song as he finds crows overwhelming (and his echololalia means he repeats other kids lines when hes overwhelmed!). Lovely to help him so much at this age but, now that his differences to his peers are really starting to show, I worry about the extra demands that might be placed on him as he gets older. I also noticed that he was stimming so.much more at school, which I guess is connected to feeling overwhelmed.

LittleSwede · 14/12/2019 06:52

Hope you both feel better soon Dimples and that you have a good weekend.

Good point open, I've just added it to the anxiety log too.

That is great mapland! Star to your DS!

Oh no Lottie, what a worrying time for you. TB!? Gosh that is scary, on top of pneumonia, which is scary enough in itself. Poor thing. Hope he improves soon now he is in hospital Flowers Have you got any support for you, family nearby or something?

LittleSwede · 14/12/2019 06:53

Well done on your DS nativity performance though Lottie! Star

LottieBalloo · 14/12/2019 08:33

Hi @LittleSwede yes my parents are just round the corner and DH's family nearby so that good. Anyone find that some family relatives are better dealing with asc though? My mom and dad seem.to get it all a lot more.

openupmyeagereyes · 14/12/2019 22:09

Map congratulations to your ds for his great performance Halo

Lottie I hope your dh makes a speedy recovery and is back home for Christmas. Well done to your ds for his angel performance too Halo. It’s great the school are letting him take it at his own pace.

With mine and dh’s parents, I don’t think that either of them get the ASC more. Dh’s parents certainly make more of an effort with ds though (he is their only grandchild so that may be a factor). Neither of them are hands on, they watch him for a few hours occasionally if we ask, they don’t offer. They are getting older, I know that but I do resent it a bit. I can’t imagine not wanting to help out if I were to have grandchildren. My dps are 20 mins away, dh’s about 50 mins.
