Our revised DLA - the results

So you may or may not know I had my DLA reviewed now that Lottie is approaching her 3rd birthday.

Since she was 3 months old we've been on the low rate.

Letter on mat when I got in tonight:

You are now entitled to DLA from - date of L's 3rd b.day

Help with getting around
You are now entitled to the higher rate because blah blah... from .... until 2008

Help with Personal Care
You are now entitled to the middle rate because blh blh.....

So that's good right????!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't need to take a week off work to fight for more? There's nothing missing is there that I don't know about?

Now we are getting the high rate my mum can apply for carers allowance for looking after L while I work.

We can also reapply for the blue parking badge and should get that as long as my GP sends his part of the form off this time.

So, that's that... or is it, are we missing something that she should be entitled to???
It's only when you speak to other mums whose children have SN that you find these things out!

Thank you so much for that number, how hassle free was that

I think I had the forms ages and ages ago and only got round to half filling them out. Anyway I have another set on their way and after the hell that is DLA forms filling out the CTC ones will be a swiz!

Thanks for that girls. I would have sat here blissyfully unaware that we were missing out. Bad on my part and I would have got there eventually I suppose but you got me there a LOT earlier!

So DLA, help with getting around and help with personal care. Possibly Careres Allowance, hopefully a blue badge and CTC. Sorted.

sweet.

have the blue badge has made a huge difference for my dh and getting about. Tho we do get evil stares from other badge holders.

Chocol8 · 25/09/2004 22:04

What form are they sending you Thom? I did it over the phone and it took less than a minute!?! Told her that DLA was back dated to April and she said to wait for the form with the figures on but found dosh in my account less than a week later!

Oooohhh! No forms - you're probably allergic to them by now...I know I am! x

Thomcat · 27/09/2004 11:46

Oh... I don't know. I just said I needed to apply for CTC and they said they would send out relevant forms. God this is confusing!

That's brilliant news, TC. Of course you'll be spending that lovely backdated cheque wisely?

Thomcat · 30/09/2004 13:22

Well it'll be spent on Lottie, whether that's wise or not I don't know?!!!

Thom - wonderful news! It's great when they back date it isn't it? I am so pleased for you!

With my lump sum I have put it into a savings account and we're off to Ikea on Sunday morning to buy ds a new bed and mod cons for his bedroom. Can't wait! He'll love it. Seen a bed which is a midi sleeper and going to get some velcro and material so that I can make curtains, then he can have a hidey hole with his tv and video under there with a bean bag and rugs. The rest of the room is to be painted Thomas blue/turquiose with one wall in Percy green. Sounds fab eh?

Anyway, really pleased for you - I bet you'll walk around with a big grin on your face for a week at least, like I did! x

Thomcat · 30/09/2004 21:17

Ohhh you've given me an idea, I want to get her a new bed, get her out of the cot. Ohhhh, so many things to spend it on for her!

Just to mention that as I said on my original thread about this, I called IR to check that what they were giving me re: WFTC and CTC was not too much - it seems too much tbh! I was told that this included my DLA, but I have noticed today that the 2 amounts came in seperately and the IR money does not include DLA, leaving me with even more money!

I can spend it - I am a woman after all - and I am not complaining, but don't want to spend it incase they ask for it back in the future.

Mind you, with my case for a 4 day week pending (STILL filling in bloody forms!!!), I could use the dosh, but having had only small amounts from them in the past, it seems like it may be a mistake. I'm gonna call them right now!

heartinthecountry · 01/10/2004 19:18

Wise to check chocol8 - as you know loads of people have been caught out and are now having to pay back money they have already spent.

Our CTC went up massively as well when we got DLA. I am still slightly wary that we were overpaid.

heartinthecountry · 01/10/2004 19:19

Meant to add - it is probably right though and probably, justifiably yours - enjoy it!

mieow · 01/10/2004 19:50

Chocol8, I have two kids on DLA, high rate care and motability, and a two year old, and I get £210 CTC a week, HTH you work out if yours is correct.

mieow · 01/10/2004 19:54

Also if you child gets high rate DLA you get an extra £2000-ish a year on top of the £3000-ish they give you for having a child on DLA

Chocol8 · 01/10/2004 20:57

Thanks Miaow, they must have it wrong. My ds was awarded middle rate care and lower rate mobility and I receive something like £130 CTC a week! It's not right is it? Is it because of what I earn? Or that I am a single parent?

I just noticed that on the same notice my WTC has gone down to under a tenner every 4 weeks though, where as this used to be considerably higher.

I called tonight, twice and got cut off cos they were too busy to answer my call. Argghhh, I HATE owing money. I am going to put it into a savings account and save the majority incase they want it back. I did double check that they had the details right originally, but I thought that the amount they gave me was backdated, then they said that I would be getting that amount every 4 weeks! I did argue with them, but they said it was right. I'll try the helpline again tomorrow. Thanks Miaow.

mieow · 01/10/2004 21:06

What you could do is go to the tax credits website here! ! and input your details and then it will give you an amount your are entitled to and then divide it by the remaining weeks till April. Also Misdee is getting a large amount as she is getting money that is owed to her weekly because they had to backdate the payments to when DLA was awarded. If your money is due to go down in April (after the back payment is paid to you) it should say on your award notice.

mieow · 01/10/2004 21:07

taxcredits

misdee · 01/10/2004 21:22

yes, i am getting £195 a week atm on CTC as dd2 was also awarded DLA in june, backdated to may (they sorted it quickly). she is on high rate care. my award notice said that from next year my money would go down by £10 a week.

Chocol8 · 01/10/2004 21:30

That sounds a bit better. My CTC will go down in April 05 by £130 a month, bringing it down then to £100 per week. The DLA was backdated to April this year, so they have spread the payments.

Does this sound more realistic? Will take a look at the website, thanks.
