Since applying for SA

Since applying for SA Ds has had his nhs ADOS / autism assessment moved forward twice, it is now only a few weeks away. We already have an private dx of HFA. I no longer trust anyone where Ds is concerned so wondering whether this is only because of SA application or just a bit of luck. Also SLT have finally pulled their fingers out and assessing again tomorrow. Only a year overdue!

Sorry posted to earlier . I can understand why the salt will be needed to get a better understanding of his language needs as this is essential. Also school are going to be present at the ADOS assessment. Which I guess is ok but I'm going off them day by day!

Really regarding school, oh my that's what I thought too but the thought what do I know . They said they like school to be there. School play everything down.

Shall I call them and say that I have spoken with ds's father and we feel that we would prefer to not have the school present at Ds ADOS assessment as it is a personal private matter

You will be amazed what just applying for sa does. When I applied all sorts of things kicked in, when I appealed refusal even more was done.

In our case that was good as the investigations showed up some undeniable problems that can not be played down

Shame it didn't show ds wasn't a late developing genius of course :0)

Yes it's has been helpful all round even with school as a sudden social skills lunchtime club appeared too .
School being at ADOS could skewer the results Ds is terrified of school I'm
Not sure he should have his teacher in the room
With him.

I would not be railroaded into having someone from the school present. If you are not happy for them to be there you should tell them. You're right about it potentially impacting on the result if he is distracted by having his teacher in the room.

all I know is that my son did his alone with just the specialist people in there - even I wasn't in there. they did speak to the school - but separately and they weren't at the ados - I would expect a child to act totally differently if a member of school staff was there

I'm going to call them tomorrow. It's a medical dx so really what input can eductation provide.
Tbh I'm really suspicious and maybe I am just a bit mental but school have never believed Ds is on the spectrum the paed once told me senco doesn't agree. We have a private dx.
Paed likes to suggest that issues are down to my bad parenting and social maturation in Ds. I don't like the paed one bit and I am already annoyed that she is doing the assessment anyhow. I already feel that if there is anyway she can dismiss the private dx she will. I know other parent a who have had a tough time with her too for other things , she is a community paed. She's very dismissive and patronising .
Have also spoken to sos sen and they also think that it's inappropriate for school to be present.
I am probably being a bit neurotic but I am sure they are trying their hardest to make sure Ds doesn't get the nhs dx.

Yes polter I think so too. Wouldn't it be a conflicting , one says yes the other days no. Definately get a third opinion if that's the case. Oh that's not a road I want to have to travel down though , why is everything so bloody difficult !

I think you have every right to see another pead. It's not the same but my son had nhs salt and private salt. His private salt said he is much worse than the nhs did. I have not met one person at all who has ever even questioned my private salt. Her word is gospel

Yes I really need to find a good private salt to assess Ds. I will get a third opinion if I need to with regards to his dx.

Paed did write to our LA children's services to tell them
Ds had a dx of ASD when we got our private dx. I got a copy of the letter and then a copy of their reply to the school asking them what input they require with regards to autism advisory, ed physch, etc.
Guess they will just take it away if the tests through nhs don't agree

Good luck x if its any help my salt is ex local nhs. So the school and hospital have already worked with her as a colleague. It's also a bonus that she knows how the nhs work.

I was also told ( can't remember by who? Ipsea maybe? That most people will not question a private assessment as its like questioning their own profession? At worse my private salt report has been seemingly ignored by the lea process - but they ignore his dyspraxia as well

Did they really mean present at the ADOS? Our SENCO was present at the appt (2-3 hrs long) to give input which was useful. But the consultation and ADOS were held at the same time. SENCO and me answered questions with Paed (and did 3di) while SALT did ADOS with dd2. I wonder if this is what they mean? Don't be railroaded into having people sit in in a private medical consultation. It is obviously useful to have them there if they are 'on board' but you are by no means obliged to allow this. handy I'm not quite sure I should call and find out really. There is no way a teacher is going Into ADOS assessment, no way on earth.
Tbh I don't want a teacher there to answer questions with me, they don't see what I see at school. Ds is completely different at school. However they have been very good putting support in place for him as per all the recommendations. I can see the benefit but it's a private matter. I would rather paed just sent sch the questionaire as per usual.im sure it's nothing sinister, but I do not trust the school, not the paed and the two together could be disastrous . Oh I don't know what to do, I think it would be a good start to question exactly why they think they want a teacher there first. But Ds hates school is always late due to anxiety and is petrified of his teachers and doing wrong. He will clam up if he sees a teacher there especially out of the school setting he will think he is in trouble. I think I'm going to request no teacher present at all. Could this make me look defiant or incoperative?

No. Just state clearly that given the anxiety your ds has re school, and the need for ds to be comfortable, you feel it inappropriate for school staff to be present.

I think you might be right dismissive Paed + dismissive SENCO could be a bad combo.
