I saw this start on another thread so I thought I would start it off ... what do you think would be an appropriate age gap between siblings??

Dd will be 2 in Aug... any ideas....

I am also tickled by people's responses when we say we would like more..... again how should people behave..

I have had the incredulous, But surely you are not having anymore children?!?! When prompted friend pointed at dd ( I knew what she meant but was mean enough to make her say it - What if we have another one like her....)

OR

I get the unfinished question relating to our risk of having another child with sn.....

I just laugh.... I guess I also ponder the thought that they wanted to offer us genetic counselling three days after dd was born - I was thinking - hang on I came in three days ago for a scan and now I have a baby - who I knew would have special needs but just let me catch my breath!!!

So what do you all think about -

a) having more children

b) appropriate age gap??

TC/Davros etc ... is this a good start

Hi Sinclair, I'm not sure, Aloha might know more than me. i think it might be the next issue?

Hiya

Thomcat, I think last year when we first got talking, this was the subject. I got quite upset about the bittersweet feelings stirred up by dd when she started to develop "normally".

I would say that I still get those feelings now, but on the other hand dd has been the best thing that has ever happened to ds. They absolutely adore each other (7 year gap), they play together now that dd is on the move. Every night there is a ritual of ds on her wooden trolley and she pushes him all round the house. They both squeal with pleasure!

What I am trying to say is that having a large gap has been brilliant for us and our two children. Ds has learnt so much about relationships from dd, while dd has got so much pleasure from her in-house entertainer!

btw I posted last week on the thread wondering where I and others were!

Are you going to be in Eve mag - exciting stuff! I have missed loads!

Take care.

Rebi xx

tamum · 06/03/2004 10:22

Can I just clarify, the "brave" comment was because of the move to Australia, not a comment on special needs- I'd hate anyone to think that was what I meant, but just re-read it and it was a bit ambiguous. Sorry.

Congratulations! If moving is on the schedule then 17wks is as good a time as any. We moved at that stage, morning sickness had gone but I wasn't big and heavy, so it worked out okay.
