This thread is for anyone interested in the Tinsley House programme. All welcome!

A brief synopsis of stage 1 of the programme can be found in the books "is that my child?" Or "the brain food plan" by robin pauc;

Stage 1 of the TH therapy consists of:

  1. Daily Multivitamins
  • Omega
  • Zinc & Magnesium
  1. Healthy eating
  • High protein, low sugar, no artificial sweeteners, additives etc.
  1. Specific neuro development exercises done 3 times a day
  • Takes about 4-5 mins

And that's it smile

Stage 2 involves computer programmes to sort out eye tracking and convergence which over 80% of children with reading/writing problems have.

Fantastic news Mango and so pleased you feel happy enough to cut the cord with Robin now Shopping. We are 16 months in and I think we too will finish appointments with Robin at 17-19 months and then carry on with Lumosity.

Both my DC have done the programme for the same length of time and will finish within 2 months of each other and totally in line with Shopping's DS. So, I reckon TH takes 16-20 months by which time you feel you are finished but carry on with Lumosity to get those last improvements IYSWIM. Will post about long term supplementation when I see Robin next.

Beautifulpossum · 30/11/2013 18:16

Also, if anyone is interested in the long term results of Vision Therapy to correct convergence insufficiency. Some of you may remember that I played Target Practice on Engaging Eyes about 18 months ago and had such bad convergence that I couldn't even work out what the game was about as I couldn't see the targets in 3D. I made rapid progress and within a few weeks was able to complete level 16 and my reading vision and night driving vision were transformed. Well, I played Engaging Eyes yesterday for the first time in 18 months and guess what?…. I got to level 16 straight away. I guess I thought I would as my vision has remained strong but was still nice to get concrete proof.

harrietv · 30/11/2013 21:43

So on Friday I had another 'I don't believe it' moment. DS has always been awful at sport. Partly physical ability, partly focus and desire. This has been the least of my worries but as now in Y3 and team sports getting more important have been thinking about it more - more how to deal with it without ruining self esteem, rather than how to fix it. Anyway on Friday as I was walking through the school gates his sports teacher pulled me aside to say he'd just written DS's report and wanted to tell me that he was really doing well in sport this term. Something just seems to have 'clicked' and his football was really coming on. I know we did all those stairs and tooth brushing but I'd just accepted DS wasn't meant to be a sportsman (and his dad had given up trying to encourage him into saturday sports clubs). It was so nice to hear and - since I tell nobody at school what we're doing TH wise, I smile more broadly as more people talk about things falling into place, or starting to click!! Still hesitate to believe it's true but the more I hear it the more I start to wonder if it really is.

Mangomanila · 04/12/2013 12:24

possum That's really interesting about Engaging Eyes and heartening to know once the muscles are trained, they stay trained. I might have a go myself as I see double from about level 2 when DS plays!!

Harriet fab news on DS's progress. Really hope we get to your position in a year or so!

Harrietv, really interesting re sport. We've seen the same too. Ds hated sport for much the same reasons as your ds but his pE teacher told me the other day he had done his first ever proper forward roll! Ds was over the moon and so was the teacher. He seems more able to enjoy team games too. He detested football but now enjoys games lessons. Still won't play it at playtime but luckily he's in a year group where lots of boys prefer to play running around imaginative games at play time. Last week they turned stuck in the mud into a vampire game called 'stuck in the blood!'

Does anyone have Robin's number? I've started the food thing and stair exercises (thanks to a lovely MN friend who explained all). I may be imagining it, but I think that I DO notice a difference - which is amazing as his diet has always excluded sugar (except for moderate amounts on birthdays and at parties/ special occasions). Been giving 2 eggs, fish , beans. Even my mum and my DH have commented. Could it be coincidental? DS is only just 6. He was eating natural porridge ( unsweetened) before this - hence my surprise at a change.
Am going to start Engaging Eyes over Xmas holidays. Do you think it'd be good to see Robin, too ? Haven't yet changed his vits. Currently working our way through Eye Q and Animal Parade multivits which I'd bought stacks of 3 for 2). He can manage. 3 steps up and down. But wobbly and insists on hiding his new birthday-camera or Lamb toy. Lol

GoodnessKnows · 06/12/2013 08:10

Luminousity? (Cowers in corner, afraid of being overwhelmed by something else).

DaftMaul · 06/12/2013 08:42

Hi GoodnessKnows, I have pm'd you.

Re: supplements. Just double check that they do not contain artificial sweeteners or E numbers. Also, it is the EPA that is important as opposed to the DHA (apparently) so ensure whatever you give has a greater EPA than DHA. the one Robin recommends is purely EPA.

We too saw improvements in ds after starting diet changes, supplements and the first exercises so it is perfectly possible you have too.

DaftMaul · 06/12/2013 08:47

Ps. GoodnessKnows, once you get to Lumosity, you will know you are on the home straight!

Mixed bag here still. Hasn't been a whole lot of Lumosity going on unfortunately - due to seizures and tiredness.

Good news though is that ds has 'passed' his three nut challenges during the last few weeks. One more week of school and hoping to fight off all the bugs flying around!

GoodnessKnows · 06/12/2013 10:18

DaftMaul, thank you! Will call today.

Hi Yucky. All of them! Grin

Although, ds does get to pick his as a compromise to get him to do it

PrinceRogersNelson · 07/12/2013 13:17

Hi everyone, an update from us. DD is doing well and other things not so well,

Good things:
I saw a picture that DD had done at school which was the first picture that resembles something. If was a fire engine and a ladder. I nearly cried.
People comment that her speech is better.
She sat on the carpet for the whole if carpet time
Is making progress at school.
She has been asked to a friends thus afternoon for tea. It will be her first ever play date without me. Friends have looked after her before, but this feels much more grown up. She is delighted.

Bad things:
She is hitting at school
Her school report shoes she is working at 30-50 month level. She has just turned 5 :(
She is hard to manage at home. Gets upset very easily and screams and shouts a lot. It is really impacting us all and she is particularly awful to her brother. All he does is walk in to a room and she shouts at him. We are at a loss as to what to do.
When did others see this type of behaviour improve?

Think that's it. We are plodding on. I find it hard to fit in with school and me working etc. and still not convinced that it will have the impact that some of you report.

Shopping - I am so pleased for you that you have finished. You must be delighted. It was lovely to meet you and I wish you and your family all the best.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 07/12/2013 18:37

Prince, we loved meeting you guys too :)
The hitting thing is so hard isn't it? She must feel very frustrated. I think you should try not to think too much about the 30-50 month thing, at this age their skills vary so enormously, and maybe she is at the 50 month end for most things ie not a huge delay. The progress she has made is massive and she is still so young. The speech improvement is bound to start to have a knock on effect on her frustration and behaviour. Hold on.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 07/12/2013 18:40

Yucky
First of all the teacher has no right to ask your ds to leave the room for calling out. He or she needs to come up with a way of managing that behaviour without a mini exclusion. I teach key stage 2 - we are not allowed to send children out of the classroom under any circumstances.
Secondly, I found with ds that the impulsivity reduced gradually. We are virtually at the end of lumosity and ds is far less impulsive than he was at the start but is still, I think , slightly more impulsive than the 'average' 7 yr old boy.

GoodnessKnows · 07/12/2013 20:48

Just booked appointment with Robin. Nervous as don't know anything about him other than wonderful reviews I've read on here. Also, I've considered (when head not firmly back in sand) having him assessed but it'd have been with an Ed. Psych. and incorporated an IQ assessment, among other things. Now, I'm not sure what sorry of assessment I'll be getting and I'm nervous of having him labelled/ of feeling I'm concealing difficulties by not telling school. I'm not about to do that as it's a private school and the other mums are quite alienating enough as it is - without the labels. Lol

cerealflakes · 08/12/2013 15:58

Did anyone notice a negative impact on behaviour related to starting Hemi P? Some serious stroppiness (markedly more than usual), poor reaction to events if they don't go his way and generally a worsening of ADD/ADHD symptoms (forgetfulness, blurting out, silliness).

Can you also tell me when it might go away? [Wink] Thank you so much.

No you never go higher than the 3rd step. Has she got her eyes shut and her arms by her sides? She should go slowly up forwards and slowly down backwards. If she can do this three times you then do 5,7,9. Once you've mastered this start with her back to the stairs and go up backwards and down forwards. 3,5 ,7 then 9 repetitions.
After that you progress to carrying a tray with a glass of water iirc.
