Tinsley House Support Thread Part 4!!!

Mangomanila · 14/10/2013 22:59

This thread is for anyone interested in the Tinsley House programme. All welcome!

A brief synopsis of stage 1 of the programme can be found in the books "is that my child?" Or "the brain food plan" by robin pauc;

Stage 1 of the TH therapy consists of:

  1. Daily Multivitamins
  • Omega
  • Zinc & Magnesium
  1. Healthy eating
  • High protein, low sugar, no artificial sweeteners, additives etc.
  1. Specific neuro development exercises done 3 times a day
  • Takes about 4-5 mins

And that's it smile

Stage 2 involves computer programmes to sort out eye tracking and convergence which over 80% of children with reading/writing problems have.

Hi,
can I ask for some help - we've been on TH for4/5 months now. DS has ADHD and Dyslexia. He's stuck on Level 4 of EE (Targets) and can't seem to merge the red and blue target. Apparently its because he can't converge. We've been told to keep sticking at it and staring for 5 minutes and eventually his eyes will "snap" . Does that make sense?
Also, he is having trouble walking backwards on steps but did fab the first part of steps.
It feels on both counts we've reached a road block and have kinda not been so vigilant in doing them because of this.
Any tips out there please from people ahead of us?
Thx

Hecticmumof4 · 13/12/2015 19:57

Evening,
Does anyone know the optimum distance to sit from the screen (16 inches) to do engaging eyes? My DS has stalled at Level 4 and cant get the targets ( target practice a) to meet. The screen was 26 inches away. As soon as I brought it to 14 inches away, he couldn't look as it immediately hurt his eyes.
Thx in advance

We just started Tinsley House this weekend and I would like to hear from those further along this journey about progress or difficulties.

pavanpujji · 04/07/2016 14:20

Hi all,

Is there anyone else out there doing Tinsley House? Seems like this support thread hasnt been used in a while, but it would be great if we can get some posters, both old and new, to help us along the way!

We are doing Tinsley house, vitamins, fish oil supplements, and Stairs exercises. Been 1 month so far, any one else?

Sammythemummy · 04/07/2016 20:21

Not tried it yet,

Have you seen any benefits pavan?

milothemonkey · 05/07/2016 08:28

Not doing TH but a few elements of it. Can I ask aside from vegepa (we've been having this for over a year), which magnesium and zinc vita did he recommend?

MissDuke · 24/10/2016 10:58

Just bumping this thread up - anyone out there still doing TH? Would love to hear of more updates. I am currently reading the book.

birtydertie · 20/12/2016 01:14

Hi we went to see Robin this weekend and we are starting the programme this coming weekend. I ordered all the vitamins today. I have name changed for this. Milo I will check and tell you tomorrow.
sammy have you started it? Pavan how's it going? glam nna hectic how is it going?

MaterofDragons · 20/12/2016 09:28

I'm not doing TH but am interested in biomedical. Would anyone be willing to participate in a thread about that or is this the most appropriate place to discuss it?

birtydertie · 20/12/2016 19:17

If you are not doing TH at all then start a new thread so that like minded people could join. I am curious about it so I will join too. Please share the link here once you have started it.

birtydertie · 21/12/2016 08:43

He recommended floradix kindervital and saludynum and vegpa chewable or capsules

mumworkingovertime · 26/02/2017 16:10

Hello

I am thinking of starting the TH treatment programme. Anyone i can talk to? Im so nervous!

PinkPelican · 02/03/2017 00:40

Hello Mumworkingovertime

I was nervous about starting TH too, but really shouldn't have been. I am so glad I made the phone call! I won't pretend it's easy to get the diet and exercise routine going, but after a while it just becomes part of life. DS1 now willingly does his exercises because he feels his life has improved by following Robin's advice.

It's not a quick process and it's not easy, and you may find things get worse just before they get better.

Robin genuinely cares about helping children and my son loves going to see him!

mumworkingovertime · 10/03/2017 21:35

Hello PinkPelican,

Thanks for your post and support - the thread has gone awfully quite hasnt it and I needed some support myself.

Well because of where we live (Lancashire), we opted for a initial skype consultation with Robin. It went well and we were recommended the stairs, diet changes and supplements and we are in the process of setting up his diet and supplement changes.

Can I ask - have you gone with the recommended floradix and kindervital or have you found something better? I looked at these on amazon and they didnt specifically have high strength vitamins and minerals in them. So I am not sure.

Also we are/were doing retained reflex therapy with our son - Robin didnt think we need it but we have come such a long way with it, it seems strange to simply ditch it.

we're only some days into it, but have not noticed anything yet. Was there something specific you did that tipped it over the edge and made the difference?

Whats your story behind taking your little one to Robin? How long have you been following the treatment and you say its working well so far?

PinkPelican · 11/03/2017 11:21

Hi MumWorkingOvertime

Yes it's a shame this thread has gone quiet. I used to follow it regularly (as a lurker) and have appreciated the advice and been inspired by the posts.

I went for Kindervital and Saludynam - mostly because DS1 was prepared to take them. Now that he can swallow tablets I also have Boots one a day Zinc and Magnesium (ie two separate tablets) for when we're away from home or if I run out of Saludynam.

My understanding, and I'm no expert, is that high doses of a vitamin / mineral can cause issues if they are then out of proportion with other vitamins / minerals.

I'm glad you had success with retained reflexes. We did RR faithfully for a year with nothing to show for it. I can understand your dilemma. It's so hard to know what to do for the best. Have you asked your RR therapist whether it's okay to combine stairs (works vestibular system?) with RR? Or perhaps just think of it as putting RR on hold while you try TH?

When I found this thread I stopped RR and followed the advice of earlier regular posters to do AIT & LWS first (auditory integration therapy and lightwave stimulation), then TH. Both AIT/LWS and TH have brought improvements.

In terms of DS1's journey with TH, there hasn't been a 'tipping point' as such. There have been 3 main stages - Engaging eyes, Hemi exercises and Lumosity and there have been improvements with each. Basically I've found whenever Robin has given exercises and said "I'd expect this to help with X", X has improved!

I first saw improvements after about 4 weeks, and about a month later his teacher said "he's turned a corner!".

I don't know if he'll ever be 'healed' as much as I hope, but I do know he's in much better shape now than when we started TH. Grin

user1475844745 · 12/03/2017 23:52

Hi all,

My 13 year old has been following the programme since November and currently on EE Target practice B for almost 2 weeks. He keeps struggling to move last level 8 or 9 as - is this quite common? He keeps seeing double and then eyes can't focus on screen and fingers relax on keyboard so he has to try and look down at keyboard - by which time it's all double /red & cyan circles....

mumworkingovertime · 13/03/2017 12:10

Hi PinkPelican,

I only recently found this thread around 2 weeks ago, and realised its huge therefore will need to do abit of lurking around myself to get some tips and inspiration. It feels as though we're starting out on a long journey. Robin did say around 1.5 years or so.

RR has definitely helped our ds but there have been many times where we felt, its not working anymore. His most recent RR assessment again showed improvements and we were told ds has 6 months left. so i think we're going to stick it out alongside the TH programme as i cannot see any conflicts between the two. Your idea is a good one around asking the RR therapist if stairs is an issue.

In terms of the stairs exercise, did/does your ds ever arch his back? our's arches his back when he is walking back down - not sure if that is normal?

How long have you been doing the TH programme and have you been told of an end date as such? I know how you feel around totally eliminating all the quirks from a child. I think about it everyday and it does get you down and thats the drive behind looking for therapies and interventions. I do hope that we can all not just manage these difficulties but eliminate them right down to zero.

Hi user1475844745 - sorry I am new to the TH programme but hopefully someone on here can guide you on that.

abc12345 · 27/03/2017 09:53

Hello everyone, my son (5) is really struggling with speech/phonics/reading/writing and sensory issues. we are not sure exactly what's going on because we are waiting on v long waiting lists for appointments (I won't rant on about it). He's potentially dyspraxic

I'm really eager to help him and not just hang around watching him get further and further behind. Is he too young for TH? Is it specifically for dyslexia?
I'm doing RR and AIT soon, after reading this thread should I consider LWS?
What supplements should I give him (I usually just give him a multi vit including omega)??

Can anyone explain the stairs exercises to me? What are they for? How do you do them?

Should we go gluten free?
And do EE? Online?
Anything else?

mumworkingovertime · 28/03/2017 12:17

Hello,

Welcome to the Thread abc12345!

I am also new here but have been doing alot of research into Special Needs etc.

In reply to your questions then:
TH - no he is not too young for TH. I took my 5.5 year old son there a few weeks ago for the first time. I would say the appt can take around 2.5 hours therefore do take some things to keep him occupied.

I have nearly completed RR therapy for my son. It takes around a year to do however from reading on this thread in previous posts, it doesnt sit alongside TH. This is somehting you can call Robin and have a chat about.

AIT can be done and many parents have done this before TH but primarily because its 2 weeks unlike RR. Im not sure on LWs I'm afraid.

In terms of supplements, the key one's are Omega 3 EPA, Vit B complex and Zinc and Magnesium.
TH recommend (and many on here) give VegEPA from Igennus as it contains pure EPA and no DHA. I give my son this plus also Neurobalance as it contains good levels of Zinc and Magnesium. I need to find a multi-vit that contains B complex.

Have you read the TH book 'Brain Food Plan' by any chance? that would explain alot of the questions you have on the Stairs exercise. Igennus sell the book and the TH website has a discount code as well. Many people have recommended doing the TH programme in a DIY type of way and seeing if you notice changes. That would be via the Book you would need to do this.

What I;'d advise you to do is also read alot of the old posts on here - there are around 4000 posts full of info.

Gluten Free/Casein Free - both are potentially beneficial and some have had success others havent.. Gluten is more difficult as its everywhere so that requires alot of planning and a change in family routine plus school dinners consideration.

EE is part of the TH programme but after a few months - the first parts of the programme is the stairs exercise.

How far are you from TH? I would strongly advise getting the book and reading past posts to get a good feel for TH.

Hope that helps.

abc12345 · 28/03/2017 14:33

Thanks for your reply. I've had a good read through (the many!) post and got some great ideas.
We are half way through RR so I think we will finish it because I am seeing improvements. We are doing AIT over Easter so in a few months we might be ready for TH, however anything I can implement now I will so.... I have ordered;
The book (v cheap second hand on amazon)
Veg EPA
Floridex saludynam
A load of gf stuff

Do I need floridex kindervital? Or can anyone recommend a multivit that includes the b vits?

Should I cut out dairy too?

Does anyone have a good gf bread maker recipe? I have a kenwood

Once the RR are finished I will start the exercises and see what happens...

abc12345 · 28/03/2017 14:34

Has anyone done an at home LWS program? Are they as good as the other ones?

user1475844745 · 29/03/2017 16:51

Hi all,

Good to see some posts here ... Maybe those of us doing the TH programme can continue to post regularly so we can all help each other out with questions and feedback? Be lovely if some of the old crew are dipping into the thread and can offer guidance too...

We did the AIT and LWT last `october half-term which I think helped with my son with his APD. Not sure so much yet about LWS as yet - we were advised upto 9 months on to see improvements, so we will wait.
.
Since starting the TH programme and EE end of Nov 2016 we have certainly seen his dyspraxia improve - he physically has more energy and seems more coordinated as previously very fatigued.

Now hitting level 16 on Target Practice B regularly (I originally posted 12th March) worried that he wouldn't be able to converge past level 9 - thankfully it sort of just happened... We are now on backward stairs - think that will take awhile...

Only wish I had started years ago as my son is 13 and I feel time is against us - with options and GCSEs - school / social situations and study is challenging. Would love to see the anxiety and repetition settle - which it does for awhile and then there will be a blip with hayfever or a cold and we go backwards again.

The vitamins can be a task to remember at times though I'm ploughing through with Vegepa, zinc, b complex & magnesium.
can anybody recommend a good magnesium supplement as he doesn't like Boots Magneium tablets? (chewable or liquid preferably - still gags if he has to swallow vitamins).

Look forward to hearing more from everyone else..

abc12345 · 29/03/2017 19:34

Floridex saludynam Is zinc and magnesium liquid

notgivingin789 · 30/03/2017 22:04

Is this thread still going ?

I know nothing about Tinsely house. But my son has moderate allergies to wheat, gluten and dairy.

I'm wondering if it's worth giving my DS a calcium supplement as I feel the lack of dairy is effecting him.
