TINSLEY HOUSE SUPPORT THREAD - PART 3!!!! :)

998 replies

Badvoc · 05/04/2013 08:55

Well, here is the shiny new thread for all of us either doing the TH programme, doing part of it, or thinking about doing it! :)
A brief synopsis of stage 1 of the programme can be found in the books "is that my child?" Or "the brain food plan" by robin pauc;

Stage 1 of the TH therapy consists of:

  1. Daily Multivitamins

* Omega
* Zinc & Magnesium

  1. Healthy eating

* High protein, low sugar, no artificial sweeteners, additives etc.

  1. Specific neuro development exercises done 3 times a day

* Takes about 4-5 mins

And that's it :)

Stage 2 involves computer programmes to sort out eye tracking and convergence which over 80% of children with reading/writing problems have.

* www.engagingeyes.co.uk

We are coming to the end of our time doing TH I reckon...certainly by the end of the summer I think. It has been in many ways much easier than I thought at the beginning but of course takes commitment and time.

I am so glad we "took the plunge". It has made such a difference to ds and to our lives :)

Hi, after a bit of advice. I have been giving DD centrum for kids but I was told today that it contains aspartame! Shock I just can't believe they put that stuff in children's vitamins. Going to boots tomorrow and wondering if anyone can recommend any good multi vits, zink and magnesium included maybe but don't mind buying separate. TIA

Vegepa is the best omega supplement.
I get mag and zinc tabs from holland and barratt.
robin advices using floradix for exactly the reason you describe! :(

You can't get good multi vits in boots or holland & Barrett.

Everything in boots for children contains sugar or sweetners.

I buy most of my vits online from nutricentre

I get vegepa from amazon.
I have also used Biocare and biovea too.

Thank you all for your replies. Will have a look later in HB for mag, zinc and floradix...but not sure if DD will take them. If no luck in HB will have a look at the online websites you guys use later. Thank you again and sorry for asking so many questions! Blush just determined to get this all right for her and get all vits in place and hopefully they will benefit her. Vegepa arrived this morning and she has already had her first dose. Still waiting on the brain food book, hopefully tomorrow!

happy247 we use the 2 floradix solutions and vegepa. My DS takes the vegepa off a spoon and I mix the other 2 into his apple juice at breakfast, which he doesn't seem to mind. I agree it's difficult as these are quite expensive supplements and you don't want to buy them then find out your child won't take them! Smile

Hello All

So pleased about Tom - I love hearing how well he is doing! Good to hear about Indigo's son too - as you say Beautiful, these stories are so inspiring and really fill me up with happiness. Like you, I went to TH after reading about these boys on this thread, and it is just wonderful to hear their remarkable stories and progress.

We are only 5 months in, but already we have seen so much. I have just come back from a play date at a soft play thing in a nearby town and DS played beautifully with other children, was helpful to a little boy who hadn't been on a bouncy castle before (perhaps he remembers that he was petrified until a couple of months ago) and we bumped into his old nursery teacher - he was so warm and friendly and asked her over for a play! This was the boy who was so angry and anxious all the time.. Then at home after lunch we did some of Code book and he was fab - concentrating, good attitude, pencil control and he recognised some of the letters! Then he asked if we could do the stair with a tray and cup! He's been on 10 reps for a while and knew this was next, but I am over joyed that he wants to move on. It was just joy. I know I'm waffling and no dobut this is one of those 'I relaxed and breathed' moments, and tom will bring new joys - but we have more and more days like this... I am very excited about the future as we have lots more to look forward to.

Ladies, you've inspired me once more to get a grip on hemi p and t. We've skived off for the last fortnight and I need to get going again. Robin warned me last time that once you've seen great improvements it's tempting to ease off and I promised I wouldn't but we have. Ds has been a pita today and it reminded me that we've still a way to go.

Thank you ruggles.
I told Tom last night that lots of boys and girls do TH and it's important that we all support each other and share info.
He finds it hilarious that he is "famous on the Internet" :)
He also seems to think ALL mums use MN, like its compulsory or something! :)
We skived off too over Easter shopping...what with ds2 being ill and bank hols etc...
Don't beat yourself up.
Just get back on the horse :)
I have decided not to use spellodrome. I can see why robin recommends it as its game based like lumosity and mathletics (which Tom does at school) but IMO it's not a great resource for spelling/handwriting.
Will stick with apples and pears.

Shopping - we've not been as fab as we could be... I find diet difficult when we're out lots and also time to fit it all in - they have either been sick or we've been out galavanting!

Badvoc - Tom is famous! I have a mental image of him as a TH Superhero battling his way through life's challenges Smile Tell him he is being followed by lots of other DCs - rather like the Wally followers!

i buy zinc and magnesium from foresight and I really rate their products. They include manganese in with the magnesium which they think is very important. There is a wonderful person on their resource line called Tania and she has been really supportive. She undersands what we are trying to do with our children and is hugely knowledgeable.

Ruggles- great that your DS is doing so well on the stairs. Each repetition is helping his brain to function better. It is such a powerful exercise. My children showed someone the stairs today and were able to do it perfecty having finished the exercise in December. I was amazed.

My DS has cracked the teeth exercise...hoorah! It has taken 8 months but we are there. When he was assessed for retained reflexes ( before we went to TH)his static balance was absolutely crap and now it is virtually "normal" Will carry on til we go to Robin but am pretty sure we will be able to stop. Will be great to get proper teeth cleaning done... I have often thought that his brain might work but his teeth will decay first!

DS has just started a mouth stim which DH and me are finding hard to ignore. Has anyone else found the hemi exercises bring on stimming? I am not worried as I know it wll pass but it is just another reminder of his DDS. We go back to Robin in 3 weeks...can't wait!

Hi there just wanted to ask a question what do you do regarding bread as most of them have additves or preservatives in them.

Report
Badvoc · 13/04/2013 13:01

We use ambreadmaker and make our own!
We on,y have a cheap one- it was about £40 I think.
Ingredients are;
Flour,
Oil
Salt, sugar. Water and yeast.
You can't Los get bread mixes for things like focaccia and can make dough for homemade pizza, rolls etc.

We have a bread maker and make our own wholemeal bread. I like knowing how much salt they've had too. It doesn't stay fresh as long as shop bought but of course that's because there's no preservatives added.

Hi, I haven't been on this thread since part 1 and have not been to tinsley house but I am still giving my dd the vegepa chewables and floradix kinder vital and saludynam ever since first learning about them on here as they definitely work for her.
I just wanted to ask if anybody uses an alternative to floradix. The vegepa tablets are so much easier and so I'm looking for an alternative for zinc, magnesium and b6 in a chewable tablet form. I found these but I'm not sure if the sweetener part is bad? www.nutricentre.com/p-30651-dinochews.aspx

Hi osaospecial. Glad the supplements are helping.
I use holland and barrat mag and zinc tablets but nit sure that's what you are after?
You can get a mag zinc powder that can be added to juice/food etc from a company called Biocare.
I will try to link to it....

Hi badvoc, just noticed at the bottom of the page I've linked is a product from biocare but these at the capsule form I think. I says the dino chews are sweetened with fruit and sorbitol ( a natural sweetener) so am I right to assume this is not artificial sweeteners I'm supposed to avoid? I know the floradix was recommended because of the fact it didn't have any additives/sweeteners

We eat Vogel Sunflower and Barley Bread. It is recommended in the Brain Food Plan. Lovely stuff! We have tried the other Vogel's but like this the most. You can get it in Sainsbury's and Waitrose- not sure about other supermarkets.
