What are you getting your sn child(ren) for Christmas?

Can I seek inspiration please?

Am quite stuck on what to get ds (ASD, 5 1/2) for Christmas. The only thing he has asked for is a machine that makes chocolate, which doesn't exist of course. Everything promoted for boys this age is pretty inappropriate (eg action figures which mean nothing to him) or he has one (eg no point buying leapster games etc as he has limited use of the ipad and that's enough!).

Have a couple of board game type things, but need a 'main' present.

What's everyone else doing?

Lego. Moon Sand. Jigsaw puzzles. Dressing up outfits. On the Lego front I bought a generic kit from toys r us, 2 boxes for 39.99 so they can make up their own thing. Not one of those ones where you have to do a specific creation in minuscule detail and they have a mega meltdown if one teeny piece falls off lol.

A sensory light for 5yr old DS with AS, only £40 in Maplin, some Lego, and a variety of action figure things.

Oh yes, the Lego kits, think that ds and I hate them in equal measure . The generic kit is a good idea though, thanks.

At 5 ds really liked building and knocking things over. Building blocks? Skittles? Marble run?
Re the chocolate thing ... You can get chocolate coin makers ... ( dd has one) ... Might do the trick? I sympathise - a couple of years back dd wanted a real penguin ( toy wouldn't do) and a 'wand that made real spells!'
My ds with Sn is big now . He wants some very boring interesting programming books.

Just one that shines patterns onto the ceiling or wall, my friend got the same one for her daughter with Ohtahara Syndrome and she's really impressed with it. DS runs into the shop and stares at it when we try and walk past the shop too, it calms him down really well and he has been asking for it for ages so he'll have a lovely surprise when he sees it. I have the same problem here every year with my dd, who is nearly 11. The only thing she obviously likes is Playmobil.

For DS (3.6 ASD) I think a toy kitchen and a sliding door.

Brightly coloured headphones for her ipod and our shared laptop called Urban beatz but cant do links.

Pyjamas, Dd3 loves pyjama days

Dd3 loves playmobil but I am resisting the urge to add to her massive collection.

Dsis is buying fairy lights for her bedroom.

Ds1 getting an iPod touch but he's nearly ten.

Ds got an ipad this year as his school wanted one to help him communicate, and he used to love the Blasteroids arcade game in our old pub, so he's getting this as his main present. You can get a smaller version in W H Smiths for an ipod touch for a tenner atm

Thanks everyone, some brilliant ideas here.

Dr who everything (figures, stationary, gun etc) little cars and a track and an mp3 player, every year since ds was born ive bough a heap of presents that are never played with, this year im only buying things i think he will actually use but he probably still wont!

Ds rarely plays with toys, especially if it involves playing with someone else, but last year we bought him this which he has played with quite a lot. He doesn't get that he has to put the ball in a particular goal but he enjoys it anyway .

This year, there will be nothing from us - finances being what they are, we are concentrating on bills and keeping the roof over our heads. I am sure that the kids will do just fine without the extra bits and bobs.

With that said... Bee LOVES all things sensory, so i tend to get her inexpensive things that light up or vibrate, chew toys, things that make interesting sounds... that sort of things.

DS, on the other hand, is very easy to please. All things Doctor Who, or books. Thank God for the library, or I would be crowded out of the house by books.

For 5yo Ds who we think may have aspergers, and who doesn't really like toys except ones with doors you can open and shut..

Ds is music mad so last yr I got him just dance 3 for wii and he still loves it now. His main present this yr is Rock Band with guitar,drums and microphone. So he can be a budding jimmy Hendrix. I have also booked him in for a taster electric guitar lesson with a 1 to 1 instructor. If he likes him then I am booking a block of lessons for him. There really isn't much on the toy front he is interested in apart from the odd science kit but my family are getting him a set.

Also got stocking fillers of egg timers, Star Wars figs, squidgy toys and art set.

Oh he had moon sand last year and that was a big hit also a microscope.

DS2 wants that addictaball. It is NOT being purchased or brought into our house. It could only end in tears and frustration.

We have bought him Time Shock, which is like the old Perfection game.
