Child protection SS for those following my story

Social worker has requested a meeting with school, myself and any other professionals involved in ds's care, after school made a referral to social services on the basis of child protection issues to 'get my family some help'

Social worker has made no contact with me at all.

No doubt school are planning on getting everyone in the room to agree with them.

But this is a good sign, right?

Keepingon school are saying in evidence to LA 'while ds still has anxiety issues, these are not apparent in school, his issues of anxiety were home based' So it would appear the target is not badly worded?

However i take your point about the IEP's.

School are saying he has visual tracking difficulties, difficulty with rotary movements in PE. He also suffers from anxiety and feeding difficulties. No SAL difficulties.

He receives motor skill group, sand tray work and social skills group.

While he still does have anxiety issues, these are not apparent in school, his anxiety were homebased.

Ds does have difficulties with anxiety which are supported in school. He now enjoys PE. Strategies are put in place in class to support ds. Any anxieties are dealt with by the class teacher by talking to him. He feels that he cannot make mistakes but this is worked on during his 1:1 sessions.

Groan...
Rubbish objectives too
Does Part 2 of the last NIL say anything different from this one?
Did you get him tested before the last appeal and could repeat the tests to show lack of progress (more bloody expense for you though)

He has only ever had one NIL from almost 2 years ago, it has never been reviewed or updated.

Monitoring - An IEP should be drawn up by school and appropriate professionals involved. This should be monitored and reviewed on regular basis in conjunction with parents. If ds does not respond to the support or his needs become more complex, the case could be referred for consideration.

Yep SALT, EP and OT private assessments done before last appeal. I can get assessment done again no problem. But i was going to wait until they have agreed to assess, but refuse to issue a statement?

Thanks Leonie, it wouldnt have made any sense for them to agree, i really wasnt expecting otherwise. But as you say, you always have a tiny bit of hope.

You sound just my mum Leonie! Smile she came to visit today, she cannot believe that people in authority would play such games with a childs life

I am finding it unbelievable, school are saying my previously applying for a statement is what is causing ds's anxiety. Yet they supported my appeal in writing!! A week later had a discussion with LA and decided 'mum is anxious'. School then decided ds's 'anxiety and other difficulties were just on paper'

School made a referral to OT for input, declined. I apply for SA to enable OT input. Not only are school not backing my requested, they are saying its 'my perception of his needs' and refer to child protection.

Blush Sorry, don't usually swear but so angry about this.

AgnesDiPesto · 27/06/2012 21:36

You can say I will be submitting my appeal shortly. Then explain DS is too unwell to attend school (see attached letter from Dr ..., dated...) and request home tuition under section 19 Ed Act. Keep it short.

They are in a real pickle now. If school maintaining its CP issue they are going to have to express concern you have now withdrawn him as they now have no oversight (kept at home by over anxious mother).

Social worker has been alerted to CP problems and done nothing ... so thats not going to look good.

You ask for home tuition - they will want to stall - but then if CP concerns how will they explain not sending in tutor / EWO promptly to check things out?

Meanwhile they have no assessments to prove to anyone that it is you not the school to blame for anxiety. You have GP and CAMHS saying its school.

You can say to tribunal the LA had the perfect opportunity to gather more evidence on your home situation & if thats what was making your DS anxious but LA delayed in sending in a tutor!

starfish71 · 27/06/2012 21:48

Wow Agnes, yes they really are not going to look good are they? So glad GP has written that letter for you claw, it's all there for tribunal. But bloody awful you are going this this nightmare.

StarlightWithAsteroid · 27/06/2012 21:52

No. It WAS a nightmare. The worst position you can be in is a powerless one. Claw has been there and it didn't kill her. Now she has her time again.

claw4 · 27/06/2012 21:58

Desperately no worries Smile

Agnes that is exactly what school/LA will claim. I can see ss raising it to a cp issue and delaying tutor.

OP posts:
StarlightWithAsteroid · 27/06/2012 22:00

But that's fine Claw.

starfish71 · 27/06/2012 22:01

Star :) absolutely! Am still relatively new to feeling empowered by the knowledge I am gaining from here, it's a strange feeling.. (but good)

claw4 · 27/06/2012 22:13

Star, i agree as we have said it is a cp issue, school not being able to understand ds's complex needs, resulting in him becoming so anxious he is hurting himself.

OP posts:
AgnesDiPesto · 27/06/2012 22:37

It could be positive if SW comes and sees DS at home and finds no issues - that will undermine school. But if they delay support then thats not going to look good is it. Anyway just enjoy your freedom. Whatever happens with the appeal at least you don't have to see horrible school everyday with their stupid games.

claw4 · 27/06/2012 22:53

Thanks again Agnes Smile

Just received a letter from CAMHS as i had copied them into correspondence.

Just saying thank you for explaining the current situation. We will be happy to liase with social care.

Ds's case is closed and if you are concerned about his mental health, ask gp for a referral back to camhs.
