I want to shout hurrah to everyone, but that would be nuts, so posting here cos I know you will all understand!

just checked my bank balance and wondered why I had so much in there. First backdated payment has been received. Am really chuffed.
No idea what we've been awarded as haven't had a letter through saying it's done yet, but I have money and we can do things for DS1 with it and the opportunities are endless!
ok, well not endless but y;know

have read so much about it being cut lately that I really didn't think we would be awarded it at all, so very pleased Grin

and for anyone who has a child with HFA who isn't sure whether it's worth claiming.. it IS!

Well done Thisisyesterday! :)

Chundle · 26/04/2012 11:50

Fab news well done!! I'm just completing forms to reapply. You should be able to work out what you've been awarded from how much went in to the date stamp on your form

UnChartered · 26/04/2012 11:54

excellent - i should seriously consider applying for DD (had forms previously, but they expired Confused)

you have dx then?

Ben10NeverAgain · 26/04/2012 11:56

Definitely apply unchartered. We didn't have the ASD dx when we got awarded.

Absolutely UnChartered. I got it before dx as its done on need.

chocjunkie · 26/04/2012 12:13

excellent :). the letter usually comes very quickly once the money appeared in your bank account.

we do have a diagnosis yes.
I had a call from the guy who was dealing with our claim a couple of weeks ago asking if I had anything with the official diagnosis on that I could send in.
He said that with autism it does help if they have an official diagnosis.
Otherwise he said he would just contact our paediatrician, but it was quicker for me to send something in

So, I would say even without a diagnosis you should be ok, it might just take longer to process as they may need to contact extra people about it

Thanks for that thisis

sorry for the hijack

oldteacher · 26/04/2012 12:32

That's great news!

When did you apply for it- I sent off our form last week and wondering how long it might all take?

flowwithit · 26/04/2012 13:19

That's a nice surprise for you! Smile
I think I will look and see if we are entitled too. I haven't yet because I hate all the form filling.

thisisyesterday · 26/04/2012 13:36

no problem unchartered.

it has taken maybe 4-5 weeks? that's including the slight delay while they waited for me to send the other bit in (which they sent me a pre-paid envelope for!)

it's really definitely worth applying for.

i should also say thanks to everyone here who gave me advice on filling it in and pointed me to the cerebra guide!

Wow I threw away the forms cause I genuinely didn't think ds would qualify. Can I just request more forms?

laura4jasmine · 26/04/2012 14:44

Great news! I just got my first payment for dd2, mixed emotions, but like you said, now we can do so much more for her.

I had a wonderful lady from the council (works to represent children with SN) help me fill in the forms for ds2 & dd2 and got the awards in 3/4 weeks. Good luck to those waiting for an answer or just applying. I thought ds2 would get a higher rate than dd2 as he has lots of issues, but though dd2 has only one issue, she needs care day and night, so got the hrc, it's def worth filling in the form.

thisisyesterday · 26/04/2012 14:54

hurrah for you too laura4jasmine!

catsdontcare... i did mine online! or you can print it off and fill it in.

i found it easier doing it online because I am terrible at losing/trashing stuff that is left lying around in the house, so it took up no space and i could just keep coming back to it and adding bits.
also meant it was easy to change things that I wanted to re-write, or add stuff/take things off

WipsGlitter · 27/04/2012 20:03

That's really fast. DS2 has downs I've applied and got one letter asking if they could contact docs etc for more info. Still haven't heard, it's been six weeks now. Fingers crossed.

coff33pot · 27/04/2012 20:17

Well done! pleased for you! :)

Mines still on the computer months and months on. Will get my act together once I get all reports I think.

FlyingFig · 27/04/2012 20:40

coff33pot we only had 3 reports to send in but they were enough (even without a diagnosis of ASD) to qualify; definitely get it sent off!

I still have mixed emotions about DS qualifying but I'm still glad we applied

thisisyesterday · 27/04/2012 20:49

i didn't send any reports with mine, i only sent in one of the paediatricians letters that had the official diagnosis written on it.

i figured if they needed more info they could just speak to one of the people i'd listed.

i DID start the form months and months ago though, then gave up as thought we wouldn't qualify, then re-started when the paed said we ought to be eligible.
so definitely do send it off... if they need more info you can always send it in afterwards

just make sure to fill the form out as fully as you can. the cerebra guide is so useful with this
