I want to shout hurrah to everyone, but that would be nuts, so posting here cos I know you will all understand!

just checked my bank balance and wondered why I had so much in there. First backdated payment has been received. Am really chuffed.
No idea what we've been awarded as haven't had a letter through saying it's done yet, but I have money and we can do things for DS1 with it and the opportunities are endless!
ok, well not endless but y;know

have read so much about it being cut lately that I really didn't think we would be awarded it at all, so very pleased Grin

and for anyone who has a child with HFA who isn't sure whether it's worth claiming.. it IS!

Oh well done. I think we prob won't get it as I said not to contact people. Felt bad about them thinking we were just after cash, which is silly I know. Did send the reportd and dx so who knows. Had an acknowledgement letter on 16 apr.

That's encouraging, people have been telling me I ought to apply for it for DS, who has AS, I'm sure we wouldn't get any mobility but we ought to qualify for some care, it is just such a daunting prospect applying. I have read the Cerebra guide.

Thisis - if you apply online, do you have 6 weeks to complete the form as you do if you phone up for it?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/04/2012 12:05

I meant to say, well done to all of those who've managed it.

Ben10NeverAgain · 28/04/2012 12:19

You may well get lrm for as. It is for children who need extra guidance.

Ben10NeverAgain · 28/04/2012 12:22

Make sure you have Lots of Brew for when you complete it. I did my answers on a word doc and just referred to it in each question on the form. It let me amend my answers As i was going along. good luck!

He really doesn't need any different care to a NT child with regard to road safety etc, in fact he is very sensible (he walks to school alone for example, aged 8, I follow 5 mins later and check he has arrived safely). It's the care aspect that stands out when I looked at the Cerebra guide.

CherryMonster · 28/04/2012 23:50

WhoKnows- i got it awarded for dd1 who also has AS. got middle rate care and low rate mobility as she is very impulsive so has to be watched closely around roads. she is was 7 last month, and is was awarded just before christmas, for 3 years. i think the main reason the care component was awarded is because she is a bad sleeper and i am up several times a night dealing with her.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/04/2012 00:01

Thanks Cherry - I think we'd only get lower rate care because he's a good sleeper and that does seem to be one of the main factors. However anything is worth having even if it's the lowest rate and there are certainly other issues which are costly and time consuming.

we got middle rate care even though DS1 sleeps through the night.
he struggles getting to sleep though and is often up and down for quite a while before he settles. but i don't generally have to see to him during the night.

we got lower rate mobility because when he is upset over something he starts flapping about a lot and trying to run off, and because he will talk to anyone and has no real stranger danger. when he is in the right mood he is quite sensible, but there are often times when he goes off on his scooter and will NOT stop.
