'does she have downs?'

something that has been said about dd2 before now. i dunno, does she? i dont think so, but she does have a bit of a 'look' about her. i dont think she looks like she has DS, but there is soemthing 'otherworldly' (lol, no other way to describe it, not i na bad way either) about her. she looks like me, but not really IYKWIM. i am trying hard to word this so as not to be insenstive, but its hard. i dont mean to be honest. just finding it hard.

haven't we discussed epicanthal folds before misdee? (my dd1 had them quite prominently and my MIL admitted that she was convinced dd1 was downs for ages)

spursmum · 08/02/2006 18:09

She's fine, stop worrying! She's soooooo cute!

misdee · 08/02/2006 18:09

yes we have. its just playing on my mind lately. her folds are very prominent, more so as she gets older.

how old is she?

dd1 still has them (she is 6) but they are much less noticeable

misdee · 08/02/2006 18:10

lol, she can be cute. atm she is a monster. she is growling at dd1. i can hear her.

misdee · 08/02/2006 18:12

i know i'm being silly. she has been ill lately and tired. makes her look really bad. plus her bruised and cut face is making me feel like a bad mum (fell over loads last week, and tumbled off my bed yesterday)

she is so cute

look I will post that pic of dd1

sorry to say that I think she really does look as though she may have downs

but she doesnt

misdee · 08/02/2006 18:15

spursmum · 08/02/2006 18:15

Another to add to the collection of the cute ones I have!!

spursmum · 08/02/2006 18:16

Since when did you need permission ever?

misdee · 08/02/2006 18:18

i quite like this one

foxinsocks · 08/02/2006 18:18

some people have those folds and it means nothing

Dd has those folds very prominently - I never knew that there was actually a term for them until I came on mumsnet! Dd also has a very round face like your dd (perhaps it's more common in rotund faced children)

spursmum · 08/02/2006 18:20

I like this one so fabulous!

misdee · 08/02/2006 18:22

hehe.

they are very cute - if that is you in one of the pics, your kids (especially your eldest) have a lot of you in them

misdee · 08/02/2006 18:23

i know that these folds may mean nothing, but with her hypotonia and AS tendancies,i am beginning to wonder more.

Enid · 08/02/2006 18:23

there you go

misdee · 08/02/2006 18:24

My mil thought that dh might have downs as he had the fold, and also his tongue was very large

mazzystar · 08/02/2006 18:28

misdee, you have really beautiful children

and no, i don't think she looks like she has down's AT ALL

spursmum · 08/02/2006 18:30

I think the same Mazzystar but I am biased!

geekgrrl · 08/02/2006 18:32

Awww misdee well first of all, she's a real cuite pie!!

for what it's worth, my dd with DS doesn't have them. When she was a baby you couldn't tell at all that she has DS, my midwife had a 'hunch' but all the nurses and paediatricians told her she was being paranoid.
I think you would have noticed by now - children with DS do have a noticable delay, how delayed is her development?
Of course it could be mosaicism - there are professors out there with mosaic DS!
