Well no one had started so guess its me tonight.

We spend the first half of the week preparing dd1 for her first overnight school trip! She got back today, said she had an ok time and as soon as out of school burst into tears :( she seems good and her social story really helped.

Dd2 had SN dentist who was lovely.
Work has been busy
I'm shattered as always but overall a fairly good week :)

How's you lot?

Hiya,

Well I can confirm that we are moving out of Herts and into Kingston. If Kingston treat us half-decently I'll carry on insisting that Herts are held to account. If Kingston are shit I'll have to move my anger their way and give up on Herts. Grin

Glad DDs school trip overnight went off okay after all. She did herself proud.
Am also glad to see the DD2 saw a nice SN dentist.

DS has been doing science week at school this week.

Will have bruised, knackered fingers and thumbs no doubt tomorrow as Mr M and I are between the two of us assembling new furniture for DS's room. Oh joy, not!!. Will need a cup of tea post all that!.

Hopefully the skies will be clear tomorrow night so I can look through the telescope again.

Roll on Easter!!.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 16/03/2012 19:13

When do you move to Kingston?. Have visited there a couple of times and have found the town centre to be nice.

Hello all

Dh has been away this week (hopefully back tomorrow) and its been tough...dc have been pretty good but - of course - I have been ill all week. sigh. So fed up of my gynae issues. Got an emergency appt at GP yesterday (had a rather large sudden bleed whilst sat on sofa with ds2) and she thinks its the hormone meds I am on...shouldnt happen again hopefully. Basically had a very heavy period in the space of 2 hours...bluerghh...

Ds1 doing well, has coped ok with dh not being here, in fact only anxious at night/bedtime.

Am getting in touch with school re: the spld report or they will never tell me the results Smile

imogen I am not getting a very good vibe about sn/sen provision in Scotland!!!! Sadly, IME ignorance about dyslexia in schools is so rife its almost accepted that dc with dyslexia cannot be helped Sad

Hope you have all had a good week x

lisad123 · 16/03/2012 19:27

Good luck with the move star Grin
Does that mean we won't see you on a Friday anymore?

Science week! Why do they do it???
Science week, book week, dress up day, sports day, change the world day, non uniform day, I mean when will they learn? It upsets our kids and wonder if they should just stick to teaching Grin

Becaroooo · 16/03/2012 19:28

imogen Its only in the last 18 months that ds1 is ok having his hair cut (and he has been going to the same place since he was 18 months old!) I remember 4 of us having to hold him down in Clarks once to get his feet measured Blush

Good luck with the move star

Becaroooo · 16/03/2012 19:30

lisad Oh dont! Sad Ds1 HATES it...he went in his Pjs last year for comic relief under great duress. Wont do fancy dress parties/halloween etc.

They insist on dc wearing uniform - we get them used to said uniform - and then they spring "dress as a superhero day" AArrrgghh.......

lisad123 · 16/03/2012 19:30

I'm dyslexic but very mild and got to 17 till someone noticed Blush
My mum and little brother are worst and my mummy learnt to read in her 40s!! Brother has struggled but got by in life and now a manager at waitrose.
I don't know a huge amount about how to turn it around for kids with dyslexia but know its very hard. I had my own speaking laptop when I worked for SS.

Schools (esp primary where I would argue intervention should begin as early as poss) just dont have the resources, specially trained staff or budget to help kids with dyslexia. I have heard more than one teacher say they dont think dyslexia exists Hmm

And even those schools that do have all those things dont start the interventions early enough...usually not til the parents push for it IME.

Hi all!

3 words. Pre. Shoot. Nerves.

My stomach is churning, I'm wound up like a spring and want to crawl into bed and sleep through tomorrow. Have been very good and not gone for the bottle of Malibu in my fridge - a nice Malibu and Coke is going to by my reward tomorrow night after this shoot.

I'm also really stressing about how to ask one of my contributors if it's OK if I subtitle his contributions (he has CP that affects his speech quite a bit). I don't want to say the wrong thing but do have a habit of getting quite stressed on shoot and flustered when I'm talking to people :( Might ask one of my lovely crew members to help me out with that...

What's the shoot about/for?

OP posts:
LollipopViolet · 16/03/2012 19:56

It's for my final degree project - a documentary about a local airfield near me. The people are lovely but I always get nervous about shoots!

auntevil · 16/03/2012 20:07

There are some pretty good cake shops in Kingston Grin Star. I hope you settle well.
Good luck with the shoot Lollipop.
Happy week to you all

StarlightDicKenzie · 16/03/2012 20:40

Cake shops?

Yum.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 16/03/2012 20:52

Hello all. I got a bit absorbed in the AIBU thread, but luckily the really vile post had already been deleted.

Well done lisad's DD, she held it in until she got out of school and coped with the trip. Smile

Good luck with the move, Star. Have you got a house in mind?

Hope your DS is happy with the new bedroom furniture, Atilla. What's he like with change?

Beca, sounds like a hellish week. Roll on the weekend.

Imogen, Shock at them blaming the children for using coping strategies! How very dare they?

Lollipop , good luck with the shoot!

Auntevil, how do you know about Kingston's cake shops?

Race week here, very busy, town full to brim with drunk race goers, 50% Irish, mostly pretty jovial. DS2 Y7 got a level 5.5 for his Geography assessment, really pleased if slightly amazed.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 16/03/2012 20:53

Sorry Attila, it looked wrong...

LadyFingers · 16/03/2012 20:53

Evening all. Busy Busy Busy.

I hate, loathe and despise non-uniform-theme-days. Thankfully not so much now DD is older but all those tears and tantrums about sodding book day and tudors and mad hair day make so much sense now. Poor poor DD.

Anyway - back to this week.....

DD has been to school every day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mostly, only missing the odd lesson here and there.

We had another initial appointment on Monday with the 'Healthy Minds' peopel. Same old stuff. Utterly pointless. She kept saying over and over 'How well you have done' and 'you are coping so well' and 'well done' until I wanted to tell her to stop being so bloody patronising. But could actually offer us bugger all real actual help. She is referring back to CAMHS who I know have nothing to offer as DD isn't 'bad' enough. grrrrrrrrr. But at least I can say we have done our bit.

DD has actually been lovely this week. when she's not being all tense and weird she is so funny and bright and lovely. bless her. We are planning her birthday in 2 weeks.

DD1 is being her normal lovely self but has had the cold from hell, which I think she has given to me as my glands are all big and hurty.

So - all in all not a bad week.

oh I have also applied for (another) job. I didn't get the last one I was interiewed forwich was gutting and I'm not sure I want this one but it's worth trying. so I have. we shall see........

Bloody hell, that was long and waffly.
Wine all round I think.

LadyFingers · 16/03/2012 20:56

are you in Cheltenham Ellen?

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 16/03/2012 20:57

How did you guess? Grin 21 years and never been to the Races. Sad

LadyFingers · 16/03/2012 20:59

we should have a trip out next year. That'd be fun Smile

LadyFingers · 16/03/2012 20:59

I could get a hat!

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 16/03/2012 21:03

SN board day at the Races, hmm...? Wednesday is Ladies' Day.
