Is it too early to start this?

It's almost Christmas, no ones doing anything important are they?

Becs, hope you're doing better and your DH bought you those things you need.

For some stupid reason I'm fighting on a BFing thread. That's how slow my day is :)

DD and DS2 had their school nativity play. DD was the only one who forgot her lines, but she recovered well.

DS2 was the only one in the choir who was flapping dancing - yet school don't know why I have concerns.

DS1 is coping with Christmas really well. I'm so proud of him.

I'm here! I've got DS1 and 2 home as their school finished early and I'll be out to get DS3 in a bit. DS2's paed has sent through an appointment to discuss his faint/fit of last week in Jan. I've had bike rack trouble Xmas Grin (See a cautionary tale) but this week has been fairly quiet compared to last week, when I had 4 social functions in 4 days. My hangover was showing...

How's things in house IndigoBell?

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 16/12/2011 14:45

Ooops, crossed. Glad things are going well. Shame school is being a bit shortsighted about DS2.

IndigoBell · 16/12/2011 14:52

I'm getting DS2 assessed by an OT over the Christmas holidays. Hoping for a dx of Dyspraxia. We actually think he's got ASD as well - but it's cheaper and easier to get an OT to assess him for Dyspraxia :)

His ASD is so mild it's not a problem ( yet ), but will feel happier if school at least acknowledge he has some problems, because we just don't know when it'll blow up.

At the moment he gets away with blue murder, in a kind of 'oh bless, he's only young' way - He's 7 FFS. Will they still be saying that when he's 10?

Ineedchristmascake · 16/12/2011 14:53

No its not to early hereXmas Smile.

We all finished at lunchtime so Dd2 is flaked on the sofa, teenager style.

Dd3 has gone to the pictures with DP and I am on here becasue I havent anything else to do. LOL.

Like hell, actually I have sooo much to do that I don't know where to start so I am going to sit here and do thisXmas Grin.

IndigoBell · 16/12/2011 14:53

You know how shit life is when you're hoping for a dx. Hoping a professional doesn't say you're crazy.

OP posts:
Ineedchristmascake · 16/12/2011 14:55

xposted then, hope you manage to get a Dx for your Ds2 indigo.

I know exactly the problem of schools not taking us seriously. It is a nightmare and does our children no favours in the long run.

Good luckXmas Smile

TheNinjaGooseIsARoasting · 16/12/2011 14:55

not too early indigo Xmas Smile I might just wait a bit before I get the gin out though Xmas Grin We had the same with school before we moved dd3, I used to wonder if they saw the same child we did, I was so pleased when they said they couldn't meet her needs! Well done to them all for their performances Xmas Smile

dd3 did really well in her nativity in her ss despite dumping baby jesus rather unceremoniously into the crib! And we've finally managed to get her new hearing aid fitted, thankfully someone cancelled, she wasn't in the best of moods which is unusual for her so it took a lot longer than usual to get her to cooperate but at least it's done and she's got the holidays to get used to it. So all of the dcs have broken up now apart from ds1 who has the major hump as he has to carry on until tuesday. I'm just really rather relieved we've through the first term relatively unscathed Xmas Grin

IndigoBell · 16/12/2011 14:57

Just annoyed at them, that's all :)

They've been really pretty good about working with me to help DS1 and DD. So why do they have to be so crap about DS2?

I'm well aware he doesn't throw chairs like DS1, and he can read, unlike DD.

He still has Dyspraxia and 'ASD traits'. (I hope) If the OT says he's fine I'll look like a right eejit. :) )

I don't want school to do anything. Just to acknowledge that being unable to sit in a chair, being unable to sit still in assembly etc is a problem.

OP posts:
TheNinjaGooseIsARoasting · 16/12/2011 14:58

hope the ot goes well indigo

IndigoBell · 16/12/2011 14:59

Thing is, all I want to do is help school.

I'd love to volunteer one day a week and help them with all sorts of SEN things.

But I feel they don't trust me, so I'm too scared to even offer.

IndigoBell · 16/12/2011 15:07

Great news! I have a babysitter for Sat night.

DH and I are going into London on a Sat night, for the first time since DS1 was born (11 years ago)

(Thanks Becs :) )

TheNinjaGooseIsARoasting · 16/12/2011 15:16

lovely news indigo, hope you have a great time

IndigoBell · 16/12/2011 15:23

BTW guys have you had a good nose around the new league tables?

They've published much more info this year than ever before.

For example I found out how much more my new school spends on teachers than my old one, and how the teacher : pupil ratio is lower. And how many kids made more progress than they should have.

I like it :)

Becaroooodolf · 16/12/2011 16:15

I would just like say, on this very public forum, how flipping fantastic indigo is.

Thats it, really Smile

Had a bloody dreadful week. Dreadful. BUT you know what? I have good friends and prosecco in the fridge!!!

Hope you all have a decent week next week x

TheNinjaGooseIsARoasting · 16/12/2011 16:26

thanks indigo, that's just wasted a fair bit of time, much more accessible format than previous years. At least I know why the lea pulled a face when we told them where we wanted for dd3, over double the cost of their option.

becaroo, hope next week is better

OnTheBen10DaysofChristmas · 16/12/2011 16:26

I agree Becaroooo. She is fantastic!! Grin

Hi all

Had DS's carol concert at church this morning. He was very cross to see me and kept pointing at the door but seemed to be fine and participated just like the others so I was :) Now on the settee with a blanket and one of his favourite films....again Grin

I'm finally feeling a bit better. My GP has prescribed me nortriptyline which deals with nerve pain, muscle spasm and improving the mood. Feel ready for Christmas now Xmas Smile.

Ellen The bike rack trouble did make me chuckle!

NinjaSO pleased that the school is going so well for DD3

Indigo You always say trust your instincts if you think that there is something different about your child. If you think that there is dyspraxia and ASD for your son then you are probably absolutely right.

Ineeda Have a Brew and enjoy the peace!

lisad123 · 16/12/2011 16:28

Back from centre parcs and had a good time.
Have decided to get dd1 a SN 1-1 swim teacher. Already rang physio to chase up referral to hospital for new shoe inserts as she needs moulded ones and her old ones are too small.
Take away tonight Grin

lisad123 · 16/12/2011 16:31

Would also like to add I agree indigo is fab. Hope you enjoy London, we live close to London and rarely make use of living so close Blush

signandsingcarols · 16/12/2011 16:32

coff33pot · 16/12/2011 16:59

Evening all! Will be popping in and out as Harry is still here Grin

They have decided between them to dine on dishes of plain pizza, chicken nuggets and smiley faces followed by jelly washed down with a rolo cookie and juice what a mix!

Harry came here and walked in and in 30 minutes decided he loves this house and I am the coolest mum ever Grin I think this Harry is going to go far with the girls when he is older lol

At the moment the light switches are cool ??? just plain lights but there we have it so I have a disco going on between DS upstairs and Harry down stairs..............I am lovin it :)

indigo Everything crossed here for you for the OT visit. I hope that dx comes for your DS. and have fun in London!!

Still laughing at Ellens bike episode Xmas Grin

Off to start tea will catch up with everyone elses news on and off!

IndigoBell · 16/12/2011 17:03

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 16/12/2011 17:05

What's all this fawning over Indigo? She'll get a big head! Xmas Grin

I've just spent a happy half hour or so pouring over the league tables. My DS2 reduced to a number 1 in the Pupils with a Statement or SA + in the cohort! Grin Spotted a few friends' DC in among the statistics. Thanks Indigo.

Ben10, look after yourself. The drugs sound recreational to me! Grin

Becarooo, you have friends here, too, so pass the Wine

Ninja, good news about DD3's aid in time for Christmas.

Ineed, I have teenagers on sofas, too!

Lisad, glad CP turned out well in the end! I saw a thread a couple of days ago on social stories where you were recommended, not just by me! Xmas Smile

Sign, Butlins on your own?

Triggles, off gallivanting again? Good for you.

Now, where's moosemama?
