Only allowed 4 nappies!!!

DS2 5.6 asd, is nowhere near potty training. We recently changed to pull ups for several reasons, he was reacting badly to the plastic on the nappies and he quite big so pull ups make it easier to get trousers to fit. Only problem is they only last about 2 hours. Luckily we have kept the nappies for night times, otherwise we would be up all night. Spoke to incontinence nurse who said that the new suppliers wont allow more than 4 products per child and also don't supply the more absorbent pull ups. Now I know there was something on here a while back about the recommendations and some sort of document but have no idea where to look for it. DS is in medium adult, we just cant afford to pay for them.

ds gets 6 per day, if in ss(ds is) ask school nurse to get on the case. Ds used to get 4 a day but was using at least 3 in school every day.
Was'nt to much of a battle but our la does seem quite good in comparison to others, good luck.

Our pct was great until all the nhs changes, when it combined with a neighbouring one. School have also asked but still getting a no!

This amazes me our DD (has bowel problems) gets 8/day, surely it is about time the same criteria was applied to the whole country you get what you need.

Has your ds got a social worker keeping

bigbluebus · 11/12/2011 18:59

Your incontinence advisor needs to read the NHS guidlines. Have lifted the following extract from the NHS Choices website:

If you?re eligible for incontinence products, you should be given as many as you need. If this doesn't happen, or if you have any concerns, tell the healthcare professionals treating you. You can also seek advice from the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS).

Hope that helps.

DS has got a social worker, but to be honest she is pretty crap. Since the pct's combined the poor nurse has no control over how many, she just tells them which ones and they send 4 per day. I am going to ring her tomorrow as she did say she would try and see what she could do. If no joy I will be contacting PALS.

was it was the mn/edcm campaign that you're thinking of? My guess would be that it's the pct making blanket policies which they are not supposed to do, it's in the suppliers best interest to supply as many as possible as they'd get more money that way!

keepingupwiththejoneses · 12/12/2011 11:10

I have spoken to someone I know in the pct this morning, apparently the people who decide this are sub contracted to supply! It was edcm campaign. Waiting for nurse to get back to me, if nothing by the end of the day I will give pals a call.

Hello

Apologies for butting in but I saw this one floating past! The thread about the campaign is here and the link to the EDCM action is here.

Best of luck with it; let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the info Rowan. wraith that is defiantly worth keeping in mind. Well nurse phoned me back and said the manager of the logistics suppliers is going to try and get hold of the more absorbent pull ups Hmm not quite sure if that is progress or not. I am going to contact pals anyway.
