Was abut to type the same thing, bloody fireworks, keep making me jump, kids letting them off outside in the street :(

Becaroooo · 04/11/2011 20:12

Hello ladies

Been a crappy week, really.

Ds1 ok. Ds2 still uber clingy. Dh's attitude making me want to stab him in the eye with a fork.

Tummy troubles on and off all week; dealing with stroppy GPs receptionist which always brings out the best in me Hmm and then trying to contact the bank to sort new mortgage out - oh yes, you guessed it - HSBC, whose entire computer system failed spectacularly today. Ugh.

Am feeling pretty fed up and fed up about feeling fed up IYSWIM?

Need a good kick up the arse, really....

creatovator · 04/11/2011 20:18

Slow Thanks for the flowers Smile. Will change them for the ones I've had in a vase for over a week now and are looking a bit sad.

Sign I've been doing cross-stitch for first time in ages too. Also Extreme Knitting (You'll have to google it as I've not got the hang of links yet Blush).

Lolli A boyfriend.. yay! Has he taken you anywhere nice yet?

creatovator · 04/11/2011 20:23

Beca you're allowed to feel fed up... sounds like your week's been awful Sad, but know what you mean about feeling fed up of being fed up. I keep having to give myself a talking to. Have started googling stuff to make me laugh. Jeanne Robertson has a few good You Tube videos which made me lol. That's quite hard to do really. I've got a strange sense of humour Wink. I'm prattling again.... must be the irn bru I'm having - gives me a high better than wine. Got more if anyone wants some Grin.

creatovator · 04/11/2011 20:31

Ref Fireworks - DCs both have headphones plugged into stereos in their own rooms. DH bought wireless ones for DS yesterday so he can have them on in bed and fall asleep Grin Grin Grin. Saves me having to lie on bed with him until he falls asleep. DD is just wanting a bit of attention so has been told she needs to take hers off! She likes going to fireworks displays generally.

Triggles · 04/11/2011 20:36

Beca - for heaven's sake, a warning please when you're going to say stuff like that! Just about spewed my drink all over the screen!!! Grin I've had those "fork in eye" moments this week, so my sympathies completely! Hope next week is better for you.

Yes, the stupid fireworks are going all over the place here. Dog'll probably wee on the floor as he's afraid to go outside. grrrr

moosemama · 04/11/2011 20:40

Evening folks,

Just tried to read the thread and failed to retain anything, sorry. Blush

Everyone already knows about our disasterous Monday evening with ds1, but other than that the week has been ok really. Lots of very positive feedback from three different teachers and we were so pleased that ds1 was able to bounce back after Monday and go on to do some really good work and actually enjoy school. In fact, for the second week in a row he has said he's sad because its the weekend and he'd rather go to school!

Been to the school bonfire/fireworks this evening. Bloody hate them myself, had a huge phobia of them as a child and used to faint and/or throw up every year as soon as the first firework went off. Blush Didn't stop my parents making me go to a huge display every year though. Hmm I am better now, after making myself go for several years on the trot with the dcs. Fortunately, our school makes a point of choosing a 'quiet' firework pack, so there's not that many big bangs to deal with and its only really the finale that's a bit much.

I have to fortify the house, put on the tumble drier, loud stereo, turn the tv up and close all the curtains before we go out as well, to stop our firework phobic dog from completely losing it. Fortunately (iyswim) she is going a bit deaf in her old age, so this year hasn't been as bad as most.

Had a bit of a panic at the display, as we allowed the dses to go off around the playground and mix/play with their friends, on the proviso they stayed on the back playground and didn't go past the corner of the building. They both had double ended lightsabers that were different from the ones the school was selling, so I could easily spot them in the dark, so I thought it would be ok, as all their friends were hanging around where we were. Ds1 was ok for the first half an hour, then his best friend decided to go to the other side of the playground where it was most crowded and of course he went too. Cue dh and ds2 frantically searching the crowds for him, with no luck. I have to say, I was getting a more than a tad stressed, which is daft, because the gates were manned by the SENCO and there's no way she would have let him escape - but still. He didn't turn up until the end of the flipping display either! Shock

I still can't believe he can cope with the bangs. He used to flatly refuse to go and we introduced him to it gradually, by first watching it out of his bedroom window when he was in nursery, then giving him ear defenders and then suddenly last year he said he didn't want his ear defenders and he was absolutely fine. How he not bear me to open a packet in the kitchen when he's doing his homework - but he's fine listening to big bangs is beyond me. Confused

Ds2 however, says the bangs hurt his ears and had both his own hands and his best friend's hands over his ears! We forgot the ear defenders for dd - and she absolutely loved it anyway - she is soooo different than her brothers were at her age.

Sorry, that was long and rambly. Blush I have a bad head and some other odd symptoms tonight, so feel free to ignore. Brain, neck and spine scan this Wednesday - always assuming they can find a brain to scan that is! Grin

Becaroooo · 04/11/2011 20:43

Sorry triggles Smile

moose hope your head feels better soon and scan goes well x

creatovator "extreme knitting" ???? Is that knitting whilst on BMX or hanging off a crevasse???? Grin

LollipopViolet · 04/11/2011 20:50

creatovator We're both short of cash really, but we've taken his dog out, and gone for coffees/lunch etc. I'm returning to uni in January and he's struggled to find wor but he's got a temp job at the place I've applied to, so if I get in there too, we're going to do a day somewhere. Any suggestions? Must be doable by train from Staffordshire :)

creatovator · 04/11/2011 20:54

Moose Hope you feel better and the scan helps in some way.

Beca Lol.. if you knew me you'd know why I'm laughing. I am so anti-thrill seeking it's untrue Grin. Extreme knitting is when you use huge knitting needles, unwind e.g. 5 balls of wool and wind them together to make 1 huge ball, 5 strands for 1 stitch (iyswim). Every stitch is extremely big. I just do big retangles that make very lovely warm blankets.

creatovator · 04/11/2011 21:00

Lolli We've been to a few National Trust places which are good down there, but I'm not sure how to get to them by train. I guess it depends how far you want to go too and if you fancy peaceful and romantic, or upbeat and noisy?

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 04/11/2011 21:03

creatovator, I too had visions akin to extreme ironing Grin hanging off the side of a mountain while knitting should be easy after some of the crap we have to deal with!

moose, hope all goes well for the scan

coffee, unfortunately I was daft enough to preorder COD as monday is his birthday, they usually turn up a day early . . .

triggles, so pleased today has been better!

Triggles · 04/11/2011 21:18

Extreme ironing? ANY ironing is considered extreme IMO. Grin

creatovator · 04/11/2011 21:24

Unlike Triggles, I like ironing - but then I don't do very much and I generally insist on a good movie at the same time Wink.

LollipopViolet · 04/11/2011 21:26

Oooh, possibly going to York on the 26th for the Christmas market :) Lovdely :)

Dawndonna · 04/11/2011 21:28
Grin
TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 04/11/2011 21:28

I hate ironing and generally don't Grin I gave it up for one of my new years resolutions one year. Seriously. Extreme ironing is something I'd have a go at though Grin

lollipop, good luck with your interview

creatovator · 04/11/2011 21:29

Lolli Sounds like a fab idea to me. Go for it Smile.

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 04/11/2011 21:29

excellent thought dawndonna, I'll pass mine over as well Grin

creatovator · 04/11/2011 21:30

Thanks Dawn Hmm. Anyone recommend a good movie - Christmas one would be ideal Smile.

creatovator · 04/11/2011 21:32

ninja You'll have to wait until next week Grin.

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 04/11/2011 21:36

I like that one with Dudley Moore in, can't for the life of me remember what it's called though.

Dawndonna · 04/11/2011 21:37

Elf?

creatovator · 04/11/2011 21:41

Is it the one where he works for a toy factory where and invents dangerous candy canes or something?

Triggles · 04/11/2011 21:41

Santa Clause the Movie? www.imdb.com/title/tt0089961/

Personally, I'm partial to The Santa Clause (any of them, but like the first the best), Jingle All the Way, and the Home Alone movies.

If you're looking for sniffly one "The Christmas Box" is quite good.

Where can I donate my ironing to someone who enjoys it? Grin
