We are the "mumsnet mob" on Moneysavingexpert!

On a thread about the IDS Daily Mail article on MSE, we have now been called the "mumsnet mob". Is that how we are viewed on the outside, mothers of disabled children fighting in a massive mob to get what our children need or as they see it to get things that our children don't need/aren't entitled to Hmm

Having ventured onto the MSE disability forums for the past few months, I'm shocked at the disabilist comments from people who actually have disabilities themselves.

I quite like this mob [hgrin]. I think I'll stay!

If only we were a "mob". Instead of being isolated, exhausted indiividuals who use Mumsnet as a lifeline to help us process the sheer injustice of our kid's existence - we could instigate "mob rule" and march to ensure our kids get the basic right to health and education we were raised to believe was a basic tenet of living in the UK.

I find the sheer ignorance of the general population scary not endearing, and frankly dangerous.

A friends 21 year od aspie was asked yesterday after he told his shrink he wanted to discuss his worries re his final project for his OU (less scary than campus) "can you read and write?". This shrink was then asking his Mum why the las had got up and walked out of the appointment. I've directed his Mum to this board as it's the only place I know of where peope will "get" her distress.

hey....we just won an award!! Check it out of "site stuff"

AVoidkaTheKillerZombies · 25/10/2011 11:08

I had to stop going on the MSE boards as much as I love them - they are so anti-SN and disability, and the Benefits boards are awful.

wasuup3000 · 25/10/2011 11:16

ooo I am brassedoff now.....
Seriously sick of the carp opinion people think they have the right to express on a person because they have a child with differring needs.

auntevil · 25/10/2011 12:01

There was only 1 thing that i agreed with - parents have the responsibility of their children. Yes, we have the responsibility to make sure that we give our children every opportunity to live as NT life as an NT child. If that means claiming a benefit that has been agreed by societies elected representatives as an aid to this, then we would not be fulfilling our obligations as parents.

Triggles · 25/10/2011 14:31

Almost afraid to read it. I hang out on MSE a lot and am regularly challenging or reporting anti-SN stuff. I've had such a rotten day today that it'll be train wreck reading, I'm sure...

Ben10WasTheSpawnNowWeLoveLego · 25/10/2011 14:35

Triggles you and I probably report the same posts Grin

No point reading it if you are having a bad day. You know what it says - parents make up SN and illnesses, children with ASD/ADHD shouldn't qualify for HRM blah, blah blah Hmm

yes.. naughty child syndrome... grrrrrrrr

I tell you what.. this is the HIGHLIGHT of my day... took DS2 to the surgery, as he had an appointment to see the asthma nurse and to get his flu shot. I'd been preparing him for a couple days, and this morning, so he was all prepped and ready to see the nurse (although granted I didn't tell him about the shot - I'm not crazy!! Grin). I get there... and it was Monday (yesterday). I confirmed the day and time when I made the appointment as Tuesday the 25th... we had plans for both Monday and Wednesday, so if she had said Monday I would have said no. She confirmed it as Tuesday on the phone last week when I read it back to her. AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! Because DS2 is under 9 and asthmatic, he can't even just get the flu shot without it being a practice nurse, and they had no available appointments this afternoon. So I had to reschedule for Thursday. DS2 of course is falling apart, on the floor screaming upset as he was expecting to see the nurse. I'm angry as it's completely thrown off both today and Thursday's plans. And now it means Thursday I'll have to drag our 2yo along with us (won't THAT be fun?!?!?!) as DH will be at work. grrrrrr

I'm off to go rip heads off the MSE thread... Grin... perhaps I'll browse AIBU after that... Grin

Oh what z smasher of a day. Hope it gets a bit better after you have ripped some heads off browsed MSE

lol... nowhere to go but up, I suppose. Grin

DS2 and I have shared a small bar of chocolate, so I'm feeling slightly better now. He is finally calming down, thank goodness. I've already done a few "report threads" on MSE. Grin Honestly, I'm shocked at the lack of compassion some people show. (and ignorance, if I'm to be truly honest!) Hmm

Triggles · 25/10/2011 16:05

Alright. I've reported some, and commented. (easy to spot)

Now I'm off to browse AIBU. Feeling rather U myself. Grin

and here we go.... this is gonna turn into a pissing match... I can see it now... sigh... I hate people who are so judgemental... "no big deal" arghhhh Angry

coff33pot · 25/10/2011 18:40

where too in the OTHER world of AIBU??

Triggles · 25/10/2011 18:47

on MSE lol

AVoidkaTheKillerZombies · 25/10/2011 18:51

Some of the names I recognise from previous spats.

The MSE boards can be great for money saving, but there are some very judgemental old scroats on there.

Triggles · 25/10/2011 19:03

hehehe... I'm pretty easy to find and recognise. Grin

But then, I'm all over the boards there. I stick to Christmas, SNs, and AIBU for the most part here.

Ben10WasTheSpawnNowWeLoveLego · 25/10/2011 19:24

It's the "my disability is better than your disability" faction that I can't bear. I've been on MSE for years and it has saved my finances and probably my marriage due to said finances on many occasions but the mods really don't seem to act to stop this stuff.

Oh goody. I could use some backup. Nasty little person on there belittling ADHD. Of course, her niece has it worse. Hmm HER ADHD is SERIOUS. Others aren't. yeesh

Ben10WasTheSpawnNowWeLoveLego · 25/10/2011 19:35

Hi Triggles Grin You're doing well! I can't type that much still. I just smash the windows and leave!

THat poster apparently has ASD and she has just had a heart transplant. Can think of better things to do with my recuperation from that than belittling others Hmm
