We are back from the hospital, Beatrice has been fed and dh has gone to work. So I have time to sit down and start the first post about the journey ahead, which I hope will be a long and happy one.

Beatrice was born at 36 weeks weighing 3lb 14oz. After an initial diagnosis of Edward's Syndrome was proved to be incorrect, an MRI and genetics tests were carried out and today we have some initial answers.

Beatrice's brain is very small and underdeveloped. The consultant described it as 'simple', because it does not have all of the detail expected in a typical brain. She explained that we should expect Beatrice to be severly disabled. She is also very small and delicate, and at risk of catching infections. They anticipate that she may suffer from fits. They have told us to watch out for her breathing during feeding, as her muscles are weak. They also commented on her shallow breathing pattern. They believe the problem was caused by a gene that both dh and I must carry, but they haven't got the answers yet and admit that they may never know. They have ultimately described her condition as life-limiting.

However, we have left the consultation feeling at peace. We don't know what the future holds, but realistically, neither do the doctors. We have great faith in Beatrice, she amazes us every day, and she is surrounded by so much love from us and her wider family.

I would like to use this thread as a space to jot down how she is doing, and how we as a family are coping with life. If anyone wants to check in and follow her progress, please do. We couldn't have got through the past 2 weeks without MN. Smile

CupofTea I am so so soooooooooo pleased to read your update and this new, hope filled thread...

I have thought of you all, and most especially that gorgeous little girl, so many times over the last couple of weeks. I have been praying for a miracle for you.

It may well be that the future may not always be easy for you, but Bea has life, and as you say yourself a life filled with love. And you know a life filled with love is the most precious and special thing that anybody can have - it's the one thing we all pray for for our children.

I am looking forward to reading of little Bea's progress over the coming months and, I hope, years.

You are a wonderful and strong mummy, no doubt Bea's daddy is equally admirable, and her two big sisters also. Plus fierce little fighter Bea herself - fabulous little girl!

Another lurker from your last thread here, tried to post this morning but I got bumped as the thread was full.

So glad you are beginning to gain a little more insight into the lovely Bea's world.

Cup, you truly are an inspiration, taking everything thrown your way with dignity and courage. Your little girl couldn't ask for a better mum.

Thank you for finding the time to keep us updated, looking forward to many more updates on little Bea's progress.

thank you for this update, I have been incredibally touched by your beautiful little girl.

Neverlandpirate · 03/10/2011 23:14

I am so glad that your appointment today has given you peace. Beatrice is so beautiful, and I know she will prove everyone wrong as she is already a fighter.

She has touched the hearts of so many people here already...and she is only a couple of weeks old...just think of the number of people she can touch as she carries on her journey through life!...

You are an inspiration, and I wish you, your DH and all your beautiful dd's strength, courage and love to face whatever life brings.

I am still praying for you all and God has already answered some of my prayers.

I am looking forward to hearing more of Beatrice's journey in the days, months and hopefully many years to come.

WakeMeUpWhenSeptemberEnds · 03/10/2011 23:17

Congratulations on the birth of you third beautiful daughter. May your lives be filled with peace happiness and love. Look after yourself too -it's hard enugh coping with a newborn without the emotional tollercoasrer you've been on.

SpanglyGiraffe · 03/10/2011 23:34

Another one here who's delighted to hear that you are now feeling at peace.

Beatrice is beautiful, and you are all an inspiration. I wish you all the best for the future, you'll be in my thoughts :)

saffronwblue · 03/10/2011 23:37

cupof I have been lurking on your old thread and just want to say how much you and your family have been in my thoughts. Little Miss Bea is a trooper and I am sure she will continue to bring surprise and delight into your lives. You come across as such a loving and brave mother. I hope you can get some rest and some nurturing for yourself.

Dexifehatz · 04/10/2011 00:39

Oh my goodness,Beatrice is such a lucky girl to be born into such a loving, happy and dignified family.Beatrice will have the help and love of your two other absolutely beautiful daughters and be warm and content in the love of such a fabulous and content mom and dad.Beatrice looks absolutely gorgeous and to echo the feelings of other posters, when my son was born my mom said "He's been here before and come back for his hat."

Thumbwitch · 04/10/2011 02:05

Ahhh, missed this just before I went to bed last night but am very glad to have found it this morning!

Cupoftea, beautiful thread title and I'm so glad that your discussion today has left things open-ended. It gives you much more space to allow Beatrice to achieve everything she can (and hopefully far more than the doctors think!)

EVery day with her is a blessing, and everything she achieves will be a small miracle under the circumstances - until she is doing everything she should be and it all becomes "normal" for you all.

Wishing you more luck and joy with Bea - she's going to be one very special little girl, like Shaz's little boy, I reckon.

lots of love to you all xxx

I haven't read your other threads as I rarely venture of the SN board but I am looking forward to hearing about your little girl's progress over the weeks to come. So lovely to hear that she is home with you, her Daddy and two sisters - hope today's photoshoot went well x
