A thread for Beatrice: Because a life filled with love is a life worth living.

We are back from the hospital, Beatrice has been fed and dh has gone to work. So I have time to sit down and start the first post about the journey ahead, which I hope will be a long and happy one.

Beatrice was born at 36 weeks weighing 3lb 14oz. After an initial diagnosis of Edward's Syndrome was proved to be incorrect, an MRI and genetics tests were carried out and today we have some initial answers.

Beatrice's brain is very small and underdeveloped. The consultant described it as 'simple', because it does not have all of the detail expected in a typical brain. She explained that we should expect Beatrice to be severly disabled. She is also very small and delicate, and at risk of catching infections. They anticipate that she may suffer from fits. They have told us to watch out for her breathing during feeding, as her muscles are weak. They also commented on her shallow breathing pattern. They believe the problem was caused by a gene that both dh and I must carry, but they haven't got the answers yet and admit that they may never know. They have ultimately described her condition as life-limiting.

However, we have left the consultation feeling at peace. We don't know what the future holds, but realistically, neither do the doctors. We have great faith in Beatrice, she amazes us every day, and she is surrounded by so much love from us and her wider family.

I would like to use this thread as a space to jot down how she is doing, and how we as a family are coping with life. If anyone wants to check in and follow her progress, please do. We couldn't have got through the past 2 weeks without MN. Smile

All love, prayers and positive thoughts to our precious Miss Bea, and to cup one of the bravest mums around.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 14/12/2011 23:54

Cup - good to hear Bea's doing a bit better. She's a strong little fighter (takes after her Mum that girl does!!). You are all in my thoughts x Delegate anything and everything you can to those willing to help out and don't take any nonsense from anyone, about anything! :)

zebrafinch · 15/12/2011 07:32

Praying you keep getting better Beatrice.

misdee · 15/12/2011 07:35

CheshireDing · 15/12/2011 08:43

Hope she has improved today Cup

SarahFim · 15/12/2011 09:44

Sending love and prayers to you all. Hope Bea is soon home again safetly with you. xxxxxxxx

Northernlurker · 16/12/2011 09:13

Thinking of you. I hope you don't mind but I think now would be a good time to have another prayer vigil whatsit for Beatrice. I'm going to start the thread but if you hate it just let me know and I'll get it pulled.

BobLoblaw · 16/12/2011 09:13

Cup has asked me to update because this thread is too long for her phone. They're still in hospital, Bea has had a temperature on and off and is still on oxygen, it's going between 0.3 and 0.5 litres. They have started some anti-biotics just incase. Dr Death is living upto her nickname and being characteristically awful :(

Bea is 3 months old today and still showing everyone how strong she is, I know Cup appreciates everyone thinking of them.

Northernlurker · 16/12/2011 09:24

Ah - an update - I will amend the prayer thread - still typing! Please give her our love.

Northernlurker · 16/12/2011 09:32

prayer thread

starfishmummy · 16/12/2011 09:40

Thanks bob.
Please send love and hugs to cup, bea and the whole family.

TheOriginalFAB · 16/12/2011 11:15

Thank you for the update bob.

Ignore Dr Doom.

She doesn't know how amazing Beatrice is and how many thousands of MNters are behind her and her whole family.

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 16/12/2011 12:16

Hurrah for baby Bea, kicking Dr Doom and improving on the oxygen! Hope the bronchiolitis resolves very soon and she is out and home for Christmas. So sorry that Dr Doom is still being a PITA - hope that Bea can be reassigned to a different paediatrician, one who actually cares about her welfare.

Cup - stay strong - you're doing so well, and of course it's terrifying but she's pulled through so much already, she fights so hard to be alive, I can't help feeling she'll do the same again this time.

Candle lit and prayers being said for her tonight. xxxx

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 16/12/2011 12:17

Oh and happy 1/4 year birthday to you too, Bea! Xmas Smile xx

coff33pot · 16/12/2011 12:21

Wow! 3 months already! :)

Tell Bea to give Dr Doom another kick when she gets close or better still sneeze in her stethascope!

Thinking of you all xx

mycatsaysach · 16/12/2011 15:06

Another update on Bea, she managed on 0.2litres o2 overnight :) she had to be put back to 0.3litres this morning which was a bit of a blow. However Cup text me this afternoon and Bea was coping on 0.125, huzzah, way to go Bea. She is such a little star :)
