Meant to post this last night but fell asleep Blush

Got ds1's 2nd appt with the child dev paed this afternoon.

Am not happy.....after his first appt he asked the school to arrange for the spld team and EP to see ds1 (suspected dyslexia/dyspraxia, APD and asd).

The HT then rang the paed and talked to him and lo and behold now they are saying that he will only see an EP if he deteriorates further over the next academic year.

Apparently the paed "did not know how the system works" ????

Should I just give up and tell the paed to dc us? They obviously dont think ds1 is "bad enough" to warrant further investigation.

Am really angry and fed up.

wwyd?

Becaroo, that sounds really hard for you.

I expect that each time he 'learns' to read it gets you closer to it sticking, but it must be so unrewarding and frustration to teach that the tenseness of it could be detrimental to his confidence and motivation, not to mention yours. I second getting someone else if you can and keep on the path of discovery to see if there is any way you have not tried.

How are you doing the RRT? Perhaps research precision teaching!?

Precision Teaching assumes that the more you do stuff the quicker you will do it.

It just really didn't work for me at all. Practice didn't make DD get quicker. She was working at the limits of her cognitive speed. Just made it even more stressful for me because it was even clearer that no matter what we did she didn't make progress.

star He is so tired after school.....its hard enough to do his reading book each day and homework each week and we do the bare minmum re: homework tbh (which the school are fine with).

Just feel like everything I have done for the past 3 years has failed....all the time and money has been wasted. Should have gone private 3 years ago but - stupidly - thought the NHS and LEA might actually have my sons best interests at heart

Been in touch with a private EP today so should have a report from her and the paed for the next meeting with school. PP are coming to the meeting too.

Need to tell school the EP will be coming in...any tips on how to word it???

Oh, I know these letters are scary to write but just be polite in your request and factual. Don't be defensive or beg or anything just:

We have asked an EP to assess ds and he/she has asked if he may see ds in his school setting on x date. I hope this will be okay with you. His/her contact details are xyz should you have any questions, or feel free to contact me.
