How's everyone's week been? there have been ups here (night in tent great sucess) and downs (didn't even get interview for job I thought I was perfect for... Sad... oh well).

Today bought water pistols for ds and grampy, very very funny to watch small boy and OAP chasing eachother round the garden, not sure who had most fun.

Last tutorial session tomorrow, and marking last essays, so quieter times are coming (ha ha!)

I have a bottle of homemade elderflower 'champagne' to open, so u are all invited to a glass...

Morning all, cinema was a success, Mr Popper's penguins was great, plenty of toilet humour for dd and Jim Carrey looked v. hot for me Grin

Only six in and dd insists on sitting front row so a stiff neck this morning but at least she didn't have to keep shushing anyone who made a sound Grin

Ds enjoyed the first football game of the season on TV back at home with dh and is buzzing about today's fixture list so expecting another good day.

Going to bake later as the cake tins are empty, they seem to be eating me out of house and home just now.

Anyone got plans for today?

intothewest · 06/08/2011 10:38

morning- My DD (15 nt) insists on sitting down the front too...I'm trying to

work up the courage to take DS to the cinema.

I too am baking,as I've invited various friends and all their children round

(some with SN) so it will be busy !

Thanks for the link. Bit of a Daily Mail thing, I suppose. The problem is more with the Makaton people, really. I bet they knew exactly what they were doing when they decided on 'happy!'

Sign, it was your new name that inspired the signing rude words chat!

My DS3 is really keen to see Mr Popper's Penguins, glad it's ok, I didn't really like the look of the trailer.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 06/08/2011 10:46

Crossed, into. Sounds like a fun packed day! Keep calm and carry on.

intothewest · 06/08/2011 10:49

Grin Sounds like a good motto for the day !

I've decided that the kids must all have 'holiday worms' as i do think that they all eat far more when they're at home than when they're at school.
Insanity - toilet humour - is it understandable for 6-8 year olds, or more aimed at adults?
My DSs are looking forward to the football too. I'm looking forward to using match attax as bribery incentives. It's good to be able to go into the corner shop and get nagged to get non food items when they are cfgf, lactose free and sugar free Grin or should that have been [groan] ?

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 06/08/2011 11:30

Sugar free!!? Impossible.

tiredoffightingwithjelly · 06/08/2011 12:42

Morning all, I have only just got out of bed how absolutely disgusting is that? Spent till late last night emailing the lady from the education office as i still have no idea where my son will be going to school in september and he will be in a cast at the begining of the year from having had surgery so some risk assessment is needed but that's a bit of a high expectation from this authority we have to wait until he has an accident and ends up in hospital before they do anything in our past experiences!

Anyway read through this thread this morning and it really made me smile, wish I could remember how to share humour like you lot can even though you are going through the same sort of strife so really just wanted to say thank you to you all for making me smile! :)

insanityscatching · 06/08/2011 14:19

Auntevil Very understandable for 6 to 8 year olds. Toilet humour literally tbh, lots of farting and well aimed bird shit get's dd laughing every time Grin It's rated PG but I can't for the life of me think which bit makes it PG. Dd is easily frightened but there's nothing scary at all, no bad language that I remember and dd would have been repeating ad nauseum anyway. One of the better films I've took dd to tbh Grin

Thanks everyone. Glasses used to a lot MORE when I had fancy designer frames, that's the cost for an eye test, and new lenses, in old frames. £18 for the ability to use some of my old frames! Cheeky people. Need to find some nice sunglasses though, as my transitions lenses don't go dark enough for proper sun!

StarlightMcKenzie · 06/08/2011 21:26

Didn't nick any pegs. Yurt next to us us full of young adults with learning disabilities on some kind of break. I am overwhelmed by how well cared for they are and the high expectations of their carers as well as the sheer level of dignity they have and the sheer effort those looking after them are going to to get them to participate in the running of their little camp is very impressive when it would obviously beceasier just to make and serve the food erc themselves. Don't know who they are or where they are from but though it was important to share here. They are having a whale of a time and not in the 'ah bless' sense.

unpa1dcar3r · 06/08/2011 21:29

Jim Carrey looked v. hot for me

Jim Carey? Hot???? Oh dear, thought i was bad enough fancying the pants off Ray Winstone!

Hello all, I've only just joined this thread and officially it is saturday but It looks friendly so thought I'd pop in...

Boys went sailing today! Yaaaay, they loved it. Was nervous as to whether or not they'd actually get in the boat but along with a bunch of other disabled peeps on they merrily got and had a 'whale' of a time apparently.
Think youngest embellished the truth somewhat when he said he dived in the water though- came back bone dry! And it only cost a fiver each for 4 hrs. How cool is that!

Sorry not read through all the posts, hope everyone is ok tonight and surviving the holidays- mine get 7 weeks this time, deep joy and we're on week 4 coming up...been good so far but am now running out of things to do with them, places to take them which A) they BOTH like and B) don't cost the earth.

Hi unpa1d. Sailing sounds fantastic, was it a special event? On the sea or a lake? We've only got 6 weeks and I find it easier each year. Though it's hard to get DS2 interested in the park these days.

Star, saw the news about the M25 jam from last night. 28 mile tailbacks! Hope you got your tent up nice and quickly. You'll have to introduce yourselves to your neighbours, get a bit of info. How lovely, a yurt!

coff33pot · 06/08/2011 23:36

Evening all Smile glad you didnt have to pinch any tent pegs Star or live on soggy mars bars Grin

@ Lollipop Must be a week for dishing out for glasses. I just had to fork out £355 for two pairs on friday! needed a long sit down after that.

Unpald we get just about 5 and 1/2 weeks down here and yes it is going soooo slooooow. The sailing trip sounded great fun!

DH has just come in and is stuffing a chinese at this ungodly hour due to just getting home from shop, not impressed as our Jack Russel has knicked his bag of prawn crackers. Just chased him round the room for them....got them but they are no good now as he sat on them Grin

unpa1dcar3r · 07/08/2011 05:38

Hi Ellen. Or should I say morning? Been awake since 3.30am AGAIn...groan.
Anyone got any tips of getting a good nights sleep (I'm sure we've heard of one of those somewhere!!)
Yes the sailing was a one off but if they get some more funding they will run that or similar things. The boys did canooeing a couple of yrs back and wall climbing. It's so good for them and the beauty is that everyones the same so no one stares at them!
It was on the straits nr me so at sea!

Coffee I'm so jealous: Mind you I suppose they make up for it elsewhere. Someone said they all get the same over the year. I think 7 wks is way tooooo long; they get out of the habit of school. My eldest hates going anyway so I'm dreading Sept 5th!
Youngest keeps aksing to have friends over from school...quite natural really but I'm struggling to find the energy for my own two never one one or two more haha.

Oh Star, I know the M25 too well, used to live up the road to it and we all called it the carpark! 28 miles! That's so mad. Hope you arrived safely and not too stressed. Now where I live if you get two cars n a tractor in front of you it's called a traffic jam!

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 07/08/2011 12:53

You in a Celtic country near some snowy mountains, unpa1d? If so, my parents were both from the island from the town with a castle. Not wanting to out you!
