hearing others kindness does cheer me up.

Hi all, week been a bit headless chook, as have been contacting my students for the two new courses, (first day teaching tomorrow)

but have bought a laminator... (hadn't realised they were so much fun!) so an hour on the SN group computer and little signs visual timetable symbols printed laminated and velcroed.

Also did roast dinner for tea, rather than the munch and run stuff we seem to have had all week...

PS does anyone elses dc find watching things in fast forward or rewind the funniest thing ever? ds will do anything for an episode of Mr Tumble in reverse Hmm

moosemama · 04/02/2011 18:48

Thanks flyingmum. We've been told to expect approximately two hours for the OT assessment and at the ASD assessment they said they'd make sure it includes a sensory assessment. (Not holding my breath on that one, as I know Sensory Trained OTs are like hen's teeth and the letter I had was from a locum OT.) If nothing comes of it, could I possibly PM you for the private OT's details? Not sure we can afford it very soon, as we are just about to fork out for behavioural optometry, but its definitely worth bearing in mind.

I have managed to drop 12lbs in just under two weeks, low carbing, but NEVER again! I have another stone to lose at least, would prefer two. Grin I now have a plan to lose 2lb a week to get to my goal weights (I have three - I like to keep my options open Grin). Will be dieting until my birthday in June though. Sad

Next do some nice flowers, but most local florists will do up a bunch to your spec and deliver them for you, so that might be a way of getting fresher ones to her.

moosemama · 04/02/2011 18:50

Sign, I would love a laminator - I get daftly excited about stationery. Blush

Mmmm roast dinner. I need my own personal drooling emoticon. Grin

moosemama · 04/02/2011 18:53

Just told dh about the playground incident - his instant reaction - 'flipping Daily Mail readers'. Grin

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 04/02/2011 18:56

I have found an NHS behavioural optometrist if you can travel to Essex moosemama. They have told me that my GP can refer us to them Smile

signandsmile · 04/02/2011 18:56

moose got mine cheapily cheap in Lidl!

only about £14, with some pockets too.

slow roast belly pork... crackling to die for! (plump sign scratches full tum and burps)

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 04/02/2011 18:56

I really want a laminator too Envy

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 04/02/2011 18:58

this??

superfantastic · 04/02/2011 18:58

MMMMMM laminating. :) Got ours really cheap and spent hours making visuals for dd. :)

Sign...dd used to be terrified of ff but now likes it if she is in control.

Back later...nearly wine time! Grin

bigcar · 04/02/2011 19:05

another laminator fan here, got mine fairly cheap in tescos I think.

signandsmile · 04/02/2011 19:11

have also made simple board games for ds, (sticking coloured card or emotion faces on to two of his wooden building block cubes, to act as dice) so we can practice colours and emotions and turn taking...

Also gonna symbolify (if you see what I mean) some simple recipes and laminate as ds loves to cook...

Its the sucessor to sticky back plastic, I must be a blue peter girl at heart! Wink

DameEdnaBeverage · 04/02/2011 19:23

Ooh I love laminating too and actually have a Blue Peter badge (not for laminating though - don't think they were around when I was young lol).
Have seen Star about on a couple of threads -is she back from her break?

Dh sighed and rolled his eyes about the laminator - until I pointed out that he could use it to make some of the signs he wants to adorn his birthday party - all of a sudden he thinks he could claim it back off his business - because web designers need laminators - obviously! Grin

I would love to make ds a kind of haynes manual for life using a laminator using some of the resources I've found on line, social stories, house rules, school rules etc. Am thinking I could then direct him back to it and say, go and read section 'x' in your manual and then we'll talk about how we could have done this better.

I feel a trip to Lidl coming on. Grin

Pork, doesn't do it for me Sign - confirmed veggie for - quick calculation - heavens!

Far too many years to admit to. Blush Glad you enjoyed yours though. I can't actually face eating this evening. Have only managed a 1 egg omelette (of which I threw half away) and a babybel since yesterday morning. Sad

Ben10, thank you so much, but its a bit far for us, we are on the Warwickshire border and I'm already arranging to take ds to the Tavistock centre in Camden following on from the recent webchat on here and its such a pita to organise with getting dogs into kennels etc.

My Mum nigh on wet herself with excitement when I said Dr Sally Hodges said she'd help us. Mum's a Clinical Psych and says the Tavistock is really highly regarded.

Thecarrotcake · 04/02/2011 19:35

Omg a laminator :) droool .. I have wanted one for ages but resisted!
And now you guys name all the things I could laminate .. And at a fabby price!

My whole house could be shiney and waterproof!

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 04/02/2011 19:36

Congratulations Moosemama on getting yourself a good one. I am hoping that Dr Annette Grounds is also good. She is on the BABO site and it appears to be the only NHS possibility. It's a 140 mile round trip for us but then they seem so few and far between, it is a bonus to get the help for free!

moosemama · 04/02/2011 19:43

Ben10, sorry - my post was confusing. The Tavistock is for emotional wellbeing. We have a choice of the local university vision sciences, a local BABO that charges £175 just for the initial assessment or another guy that the school has used before, but sounds like he doesn't do as much. Think we are going to go with the University.

We know he has convergence and visual motor issues, but this week he seems to not be seeing things in his peripheral vision (edges of photos etc) which is worrying. He saw a normal optician in December and she said his vision is actually better than 20/20 but his motor control is very poor.

I've also noticed ds2 is missing the endings off words and skipping words as well. Could explain why he hasn't made the improvement they were expecting with his glasses. He's at the eye clinic for his 12 month work-up on Tuesday anyway and I think I'm going to raise it with them and see if they know of anyone else locally. Of course they could just rubbish the whole idea, but its worth a punt.

Do you think I could laminate the dogs? Just think, no more dog fur - my lurcher seems to have decided that clouds of dog fur are de rigeur this season. Hmm

DameEdnaBeverage · 04/02/2011 19:46

You can laminate dogs but you need to use special laminating pooches!

moosemama · 04/02/2011 19:54

Grin Oh, you're good! Grin

DameEdnaBeverage · 04/02/2011 20:00

I know - really laughed when I thought of it (sad, I know)

Thecarrotcake · 04/02/2011 20:06

That made me snigger Dame :)

ds has just said when his dog dies he wants to laminate her.. To keep her forever...
Ds1 has just told ds " you are one very weird little dude!"

moosemama · 04/02/2011 20:23

I don't think that's weird. A friend of mine had her dog stuffed and kept him in the bathroom for years because she couldn't bear to part with him. Oh wait a minute ..... that IS weird! Grin

Actually my dog is currently in a pretty little box on my dressing table, until I can get to her favourite beach to scatter her in the same place I scattered her best friend. I like to think of them running alongside us when we walk the other dogs there in the summer. [daft Moose emoticon] We won't get there until late July/early August though, so she's going to be hanging around my bedroom for a while. Just hope we don't get searched at customs!

My ds has absolutely no interest in our dogs. I don't think he even noticed them until a couple of years ago - and we had three up until recently.

OverflowingMum · 04/02/2011 20:24

have opened wine...but am feeling tired all of a sudden by enldless list of things to sort for DD3...have now remembered I am meant to be adressing auditory processing difficulties for her ( as I know 3rd referral to SLT will lead to same useless results as last 2) ....sigh....
and still fighting LEA...sigh...
and need to chase up Autism Outreach team (where DID they disappear too very suddenly....???)
very tired....
and still have 5 other DC...and a job...and...and...and...sigh

right...self pity over...

goes to pour more wine and read thread...

OverflowingMum · 04/02/2011 20:25

awwww... now feeling sad for mossemama's little dog...glances at own mad mutt eying up our pizza....

OverflowingMum · 04/02/2011 20:28

how do you all find the time/energy to so much for your DC....your posts are all putting me to shame...almost tearful now...

I am feeling woefully bad mummy on DD3's part just now...

I have done loads of fighting on her behalf...but there is always so much more she needs...

and then when I do concentrate on her I am consumed with Mummy guilt for not giving enough to the other 5....sigh...

Thecarrotcake · 04/02/2011 20:38

Overflowing .. How you manage 5 dc's I have no idea .. Three is totally my limit, would have liked number 4 but I knew my limit was 3.

Don't feel guilty!

Moose :( for you and your doggie
