I just had a look (have never been on there before). Was very funny to read. Obviously am so stylish that I don't have to worry about such issues...!

auntevil · 19/01/2011 19:30

Some of us have a 'natural' style all of our own! By natural i'm probably thinking minimalist - and by minimalist i'm thinking not a lot.
Just glanced at a few of the threads and did LOL. If only that's all that i thought about.

mariamagdalena · 19/01/2011 19:37

I actually dreamt last night about how hairy my legs are Blush

Goblinchild · 19/01/2011 19:40

I hid them on day two of joining. Grin

devientenigma · 19/01/2011 20:01

I can't find style and beauty!!!

Goblinchild · 19/01/2011 20:27

I hid it well.
You need a shovel and and several obscure amulets and talismans created from discarded body parts.
Your incantations must be written in lipstick, and you must give an offering of pain and wax in equal measures whilst shrieking the names of approved celebrity beauties.
Only then will its location be revealed.

Thecarrotcake · 19/01/2011 21:25

Ooooh to have the time to think S&B

I used to be quite glam..... And thin..... And had a job where I had to be presentable.... Woeful(so) sigh

now I live in jeans... Can't think of how I want my hair cut... My nails haven't be done in years they grey hairs are starting to show... And when I look at a pair of shoes I think.... " ooooh they look comfy.... " :)

It's far away in the past :(

magso · 19/01/2011 22:31

Oh quite shoes are for running in! Today I put leggings and a jumper on ( chilly start) and forgot I still had my nightwear on underneath!! However I have started to look at S&B as a form of escapism!

donkeyderby · 19/01/2011 22:37

have been meaning to dye my hair for a year. have had a manky toenail for four years that I keep forgetting to treat. I have more hair than legs, (quick tip girls - shave your ankles in case your tracky bottoms ride up). have no idea what is in fashion.

husband still likes me and kids don't care so all ok

nameymacnamechanger · 20/01/2011 11:30

DS does take up alot of my time. I can no longer work, I no longer sleep well, I have a very limited social life, etc .... but I desperately cling onto trying to keep myself nice (in a primarni/ george at asda way). Hmm I try to paint my toenails (they currently need doing), and keep my hair nice (it is currently desperate for a good cut). Now I think about it I am failing! Blush

auntevil · 20/01/2011 13:31

Had to LOL at the comfy shoes comment Carrot, i'm exactly the same. The last pair of high heels i wore was on my wedding day - and that was only so that the head shots of me and DH were in the same photo Grin
I was laughed at in Accessorize in the January sale when i was looking at bags with my DS (3). I asked him if he thought that it looked big enough (it was the biggest that they had!). The assistant laughed - more in sympathy - when i said the list of the things that i need to carry around on even the quickest of trips.

Spinkle · 20/01/2011 13:39

Crikey.

It's a good day if I remember to drag a rake through my hair.

I haven't had a haircut since last January...

Make-up? Whassat?

Herecomestheninkynonk · 20/01/2011 21:34

Thanks all for the laugh, loved the idea of using the S&B thread as escapism Magso, will try that!

Pleased to say I have dried my hair before getting into bed tonight, so hopefully will look 10% less like Worzell Gumage tomorrow.

Have taken to buying shoes in Clarks too, and even then I look at some of them and think "oh no, they're too fancy! "

raven666 · 21/01/2011 09:50

omg are these people for real?
what a sad superficial world they live in .
was laughing my socks off at "panic i dont know what to wear this evening "thread

the whole section reminds me of an ab fab sketch........... fabulous darrrrrling mmmwaw mmm waw

these people actaully think these things are important a couple of real life lessons might help them

bigcar · 21/01/2011 10:06

hey, it's live and let live Smile just we live in a different world Grin I do have to have the odd snigger at some of the thread titles, may be we could start a sn thread within s&b Wink Something along the lines of, what are you wearing today?, oh jeans, tshirt, cardi, pretty much the same as yesterday, the day before, the day before that, oh and the one before that . . . Grin

EvelynTension · 21/01/2011 11:48

How rude, how narrow minded to think that everyone who posts on S&B is a shallow idiot who thinks about nothing else.

I have a dyslexic child and AS myself, and was looking on SN children for advice, but I do post there as well as on many other threads and I do use it as escapism.

Really upset by this thread.

bigcar · 21/01/2011 12:01

evelyn, as I said, it's live and let live, this is a light hearted thread with no intention of malice, apologies if you have read it that way. If you are a newcomer, don't be put off, jump in and start posting, we are a helpful bunch Smile

EvelynTension · 21/01/2011 12:03

Bgcar I read your post and thought you were pretty balanced but some of the others (especially by Raven666) were horrid.

'lighthearted' doesn't really cut it for me, but thanks for being nice anyway.

I've been here for years actually - I have posted a few times in SN.

raven666 · 21/01/2011 12:10

evelyn sorry my post was very offesnive i am new here and i was just having a laugh perhaps to distract from my own troubles laughter helps me deal with stuff,
i have notice in the brief time on here that folk are really uptight about anyone who says what they feel.
as i am very straight talking person not horrid actaully
i think its best i leave this net i feel like i am treading on eggs shells terrified of speaking out.
good luck all
ps i came on here only because i spoke out about RIVEN on my local radio station and the plight of families with special needs children you see evelyn i am a really shallow person

EvelynTension · 21/01/2011 12:13

Don't be scared Raven. I didn't say YOU were shallow, you said I was - remember? Smile

This place is a learning curve, you just have to as Bigcar says 'live and let live' and being self deprecating is fine but having a go at people for wanting to think about clothes etc isn't really very nice, is it.

I'm sure you have a great deal to offer MN so please don't leave on my account.

wendihouse22 · 21/01/2011 14:05

I am neither stylish nor beautiful but agree with nameymac.... I try to keep myself together.

I get my hair cut well (so I don't have to faff around with a hairdryer) and I regularly go through my wardrobe to "charity shop" the tat. I have to say, for myself, I like to look "together". I would no more leave the house without freshly washed hair, my "face" on and dressed OK than show my rear-end in the high street.

But if I did show it.....it would be wearing decent undies and smothered in body lotion.

wendihouse22 · 21/01/2011 14:07

Oh God, that sounds awful. When I say charity shop and "tat" in the same sentence, I simply mean, I try not to hang on to stuff for years and years.

I often shop in charity shops.....got me a lovely Boden cardi only last week!!

Spinkle · 21/01/2011 15:04

But how do you manage it?

My DS is 6. He even manages to complain if I have the temerity to have a shower and not be ready to fulfil his every whim immediately.

He screams if I use the hairdryer.

All my clothes make me look like a 'badly made bed' (I quote my mother there, thanks mum)

Never been very good at the make up thing - makes me feel very self conscious or like Dick Emery.

MarioandLuigi · 21/01/2011 15:11

I like the S&B thread and like Magso I see it as escapism. I cant afford and dont want much of the stuff they talk about on there, but its nice to read about.

I always make sure my DC's are nicely presented. I think its a throwback to my feeling that some people judge DS2's behaviour and judge me as a bad parent. I try and dress him in nice things so that they cant judge me on that too. I havent explained very well but I know what I mean.

Me on the other hand is a different story. I havent had a haircut since last May and my clothes have seen better days. I do get my nails done though and I like to moisturise.

Each to thier own though. If I had the budget and the time I would be very stylish (atleast in my head anyway :))
