She also talks about 'when dd was normal and bright', meaning before she lost her speech Sad

anotherbrickinthewall · 10/11/2010 21:28

"he'll speak when he's ready" - erm and that is meant to be reassuring how, precisely.....and "they all get there in the end" - really???

1980Sport · 10/11/2010 21:30

My DS is nearly 2 he has undiagnosed GDD - I regularly get -

'All boys are slow' (Really??)

'When will they fix him'

'I know a wee boy who didn't walk until 28 months (or insert any age after 2) and he's a doctor now (or insert any random profession)!

Slightlycrumpled - I laughed out loud too. Unbelievable

1980Sport · 10/11/2010 21:31

anotherbrick - i get this all the time too but for me the speak when he's ready is at the moment he'll walk when he's ready

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 10/11/2010 21:32

You need to give him time to be autistic. It's like telling a musician they can never play. - odd family member

His autism won't just go away you know - stupid advisory teacher.

'they' are visual learners - stupid autism advisory teacher.

he's not autistic - lots of friends

is he high quality or low quality - odd friend

yes, I heard he had a mild touch of the autism - same odd friend

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/11/2010 21:35

I also get 'you just don't have the patience to train her properly' Hmm

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 10/11/2010 21:35

'I'd rather she was NORMAL and UNHAPPY'

ROFL

like your auntie I presume.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/11/2010 21:36

Yes, exactly Grin

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/11/2010 21:37

Dd is happier than anyone I know

wasuup3000 · 10/11/2010 21:37

It's a boy thing!!

smugtandemfeeder · 10/11/2010 21:38

'sometimes you can read too many books'

'have you tried being stricter with him'

'have you tried putting him in a strict routine'

'he just needs more attention'

'I went to a party last night and all the women there agreed he's just jealous'

'he's just a naughty little shit and needs a good smack'

not sure how many of these are funny but on some level I can laugh at them!

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 10/11/2010 21:39

He needs a visual timetable Grin

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/11/2010 21:39

I hope you gave the last person a good smack! Angry

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/11/2010 21:40

Xposted, that was to smugtandemfeeder, but applies to all posts I think!

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 10/11/2010 21:41

OK - DS said yesterday. He's learning tenses by rote. This is his own as I never taught it.

Mummy is going to wee, Mummy is weeing, Mummy has weed!

Cheers love!

ghoulsforgodot · 10/11/2010 21:41

"Einstein didn't talk til he was five"

Oh really! Thats good to know then

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 10/11/2010 21:43

Einstein [random genius] didn't talk til he was 4, 5, 8, [insert random age].

Yes, but he had wierd hair Shock

anotherbrickinthewall · 10/11/2010 21:43

godot - einstein was talking by 3. I got so fed up of this one, one day I went to the library to check out a biography!

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 10/11/2010 21:43

x post

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 10/11/2010 21:44

You can't have respite because there are lots of children more disabled than your ds.

wasuup3000 · 10/11/2010 21:45

This child has no ASD traits on first page of specialist teacher report -2nd page of specialist teacher report observes him talking to himself, spinning on spot, running in a circle, echoing, using self talk to try to understand what to do in class, playing with same 2 friends and backing off when others joined in....
By the time I received this report ds had a verbal dx from CAMHS of ASD....

mamalino · 10/11/2010 21:46

"oooh he (DS) can hear when he wants to".... said by many random people.

Nope he really can't, he is profoundly deaf. All the time!

MIL also used the term "deaf and dumb". Nice.

Ooh this is cathartic, I could go on all night!

mamalino · 10/11/2010 21:50

Bigcar, I believe the aids actually spawned another pair on the manky rubber liner of the ball pool Grin

blueShark · 10/11/2010 21:55

"I have never heard of any mum leaving the child with a nanny for 11 hours a day. Poor thing, he must have been missing his mummy so much that he withdraw himself and didnt want to speak. You see now that you are spending more time with him he is so content and started speaking. Who is looking after your younger one?"...SENCO at the MS catchment school which made me decide he is not going there, she has no clue of SN. And all said in one sentence! Biscuit

Ineed2 · 10/11/2010 21:58

HT/SENCO asked me if I had tried not talking to Dd3 about her having a really bad time at school!!!Shock.

I suppose if we don't talk about it, its not happeningHmmHmm.
