I just don't believe this really works. I feel like whenever I ask about it everyone insists it works but no one's actually lost anything!

I know there's success stories on the website but not that many. Seems quite hard to find people who've actually lost weight.

So...
How much have you lost?
How long did it take?
Start and current weights?

If you convince me I'll try it!!

Started 13th April, lost 1 stone 4 lbs so far.
Go on holiday in 7 weeks so would love to make it to just over a 2 stone weight loss.
🤞🏻
Would ideally love to loose 4 stone in total.

goingtotown · 16/06/2023 16:03

Every diets works. The problem is as soon as you go back to your old ways of eating the weight goes back on.

aiasally · 22/06/2023 18:00

i've lost 4 stone and kept most of it off.

snoozingbaby1476 · 23/06/2023 12:58

@goingtotown that's exactly right. If I ate how I really wanted to eat I would be absolutely massive.
I am trying to lose weight with SW at the moment but like a previous poster has said I can't eat too many carbs so I'm limiting them at the moment & following the principles of SW alongside intermittent fasting.
I think the basics of SW are good. It's fresh food and back to cooking from scratch but I don't really like the fake food side of it.
I do like going to group for the accountability & I've got a lovely bunch of people at my group so it doesn't feel like a chore to go.
I'm hoping to reach my goal in the next 6 weeks then I'll follow the basics in the week and cut a little slack at the weekend.
I don't think any diet is perfect & to keep the weight off each person has to find an eating plan that is sustainable for them.

snoozingbaby1476 · 23/06/2023 12:59

Oh I'm also going to keep going to group when I get to target. It's the only way for me I think.

Whattodo112222 · 23/06/2023 18:09

I lost 3 stone between January and August last year..I'm fluctuating now with 7lbs as I stopped in September. I'm an online member now and wanting to lose another stone.

Spinewars23 · 24/06/2023 18:35

Thats a bit hard to accept if you get the slimming world magazine, doubt the success stories are made up every 4 to 6 weeks a magazine comes out.

So...
How much have you lost? 2 stone 7 lbs, I was the holder of a 3 stone certificate but it can only be I hate slimming in summer.
How long did it take? 7 months I've been going at it + being active.
Start and current weights? starting weight: 19 stone 10 lbs
Current weight 17 stone 3 lbs

Never felt worse. Losing weight was the start of so many problems beyond having the classic heart attack which I think all round I would have preferred then multiple problems coming to the surface only when the scales went down,
I try hard not to curse the day I joined and I'm not sure I feel wonderful.

Also I found with slimming world it's bit of a rip off - when I achieved 10% body weight kept of for 10 weeks I should have got a week free - because I was attending a different group meeting to that of my 'registered one', I did not receive this perk which I found quite hard when going to other groups is encouraged when you can't get to your regular one. When I've missed a week and then set up a 6 week plan for example I've then found the consultant without speaking to me, deducts a week from plan rather then actually find out if I would like to pay up for missed week. I deeply dislike the culture of how people who put on are made to feel bad or disbelieved and there is a tendency to rub it in how others have lost weight that week. I've also noticed more recently how they empathise exactly how many weeks in which you've lost weight, again deeply disturbing.

delilabell · 24/06/2023 18:43

I've lost 5 and a half stone in 9 months. I have another 2 stone to go.
It does work but you have to stick to the principles.
If you followed any diet and stopped following it you'd put weight back on. It has to be a life style change and the acceptance that weight will fluctuate to some degree.

Ralphiesaurus · 29/06/2023 06:54

25lb down in 10 weeks.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/06/2023 07:01

I have lost 1st 11.5lbs since the end of January. It's plateaued a bit this month but I d started doing loads of exercise but eating loads of syns. In 2013/14 I lost 3st but put it back on

entangledconker · 29/06/2023 09:29

Over 3 stone in a year.
We have a male consultant who is really calm and really listens. It's an older group with the most supportive group of women (and a few men).

It's basically a calorie deficit diet with things changed up so you don't have to weigh everything.

Also we don't eat endless pasta and potatoes and we talk about things like that in group.

If you stick to the concepts it does work really well. I find if I have a day or two of meals out or go overboard on wine or chocolate I can reign it back in with a couple of low carb days.

I think some consultants can be better than others and also over focus on what you've done wrong if you don't lose weight that week. I don't have that with my consultant and I also don't get hung up if I don't lose weight every week.

L1R876 · 08/07/2023 11:09

Sounds like some great results!!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/07/2023 18:48

Update I have now lost 2st

L1R876 · 08/07/2023 18:49

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 09/07/2023 11:30

SugarCraving · 09/07/2023 18:37

I have lost 1 1/2 stone and I have plateaued!

RiceOnABike · 09/07/2023 19:18

SugarCraving · 09/07/2023 18:37

I have lost 1 1/2 stone and I have plateaued!

Same! How much have you got to lose? I'm now right at the top of a healthy BMI, but would really like to lose another stone. I've only lost a couple of pounds since Easter.

tinytemper66 · 10/07/2023 05:55

I joined May 2022 and have lost 24lbs. At target now for 2 months.

Moanthensmum · 30/07/2023 08:54

My DH and I both did it for before our wedding, I was 13st 7, he was 15st7, and we both lost 2 stone each within about 9 months on SW.

What I'd say is that we both noticed at the group we were at is that the consultant and some of the hard core long timers (who were still v overweight) took the "eat as many potatoes, rice, pasta etc as you want as it's free" too literally.

During one of the bringing your recipes to group days one of the v overweight women brought a massive casserole dish of "free" SW lasagne. One portion would have been enough to eat but she was eating the whole thing!

So DH and I did the diet but did not fill our plates up with lots of pasta, rice etc, we just divided it equally with the veg on our plates and upped the protein. First couple of weeks we both went to bed feeling a bit hungry but then that reduced as our portion sizes reduced and we ate more veg and speed foods.

I actually need to go on it again, after second DC I'm back up at 12st something again, would like to get back to my wedding weight. I'm 5ft9 (DH 6ft4) so we are both tall and can carry weight a bit better but I'd like to feel nicer and have my pre wedding clothes fit me again.

Hermanfromguesswho · 30/07/2023 08:58

I did it 2.5 years ago. I lost 3 stone in about 6 months and I’ve kept it all off fairly easily since. Worked well for me!

Grammarnut · 29/10/2023 15:16

I started August 2022. I have lost over 2 st and am within 5lbs of my target, 9st 7lbs (I started weighing in at just under 12st) so in roughly 18mths. I yo-yo a bit, but have lost steadily despite having alcohol, meals out, and fish and chips occasionally. It definitely works and seems sustainable, too.

Which fake food? I haven't come across this, but I do not buy the Slimming World meals etc (only the Hi-fi bars because I find them useful when DH wants cake or biscuits).

Hermanfromguesswho · 29/10/2023 15:36

I lost 2.5 stone and got to my target (12 stone to 9.5 stone) in about 8 months. That was about 2 years ago and it’s all stayed off in those 2 years.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 29/10/2023 16:24

I've done it half heartedly since February and have lost 23lbs. I'm happy with that! It could be more if I stuck to it 100% but I'm not prepared to go to weddings, posh do's and birthday parties and not have a drink/piece of cake! So I do it 80% of the time and am slowly and surely getting to target.

Ralphiesaurus · 29/10/2023 20:21

Yes, what "fake food"? SW is basically a sensible eating plan with lots of positive reinforcement and encouragement built in. I'm 41.5 lb down so far (it pains me that it's not quite the round three stone 😂). I've found it enjoyable and easy to follow.

Am currently revising my target as I've had more success than I expected so can see myself getting back to a weight I never would have thought possible back in April when I started. But I don't want to be unrealistic, maintenance-wise, so am taking my time to work out a final goal that will be sustainable for me...
