Is a 6 stone loss in a year too much to aim for?

Basically that really. I’m 14 stone 3, aiming for 8 stone 3. I’m only 5 foot 3 so perfectly healthy weight range. But I’m hoping to do it in a year. Would you say this is doable? Thanks Smile

I’d say yes. That’s 1.5/2lb a week so you’d have to be fairly consistent.

SamBaileys · 08/01/2019 20:33

It took me 18 months to lose 5.5 stone. I think you would have to be very strict to lose 6 stone in a year and sometimes life and enjoying it gets in the way!

MaderiaCycle · 08/01/2019 20:35

Yes but you’ll have to follow it to the letter. It’ll be really easy at first but the last couple of stone will take longer.

Francofilly · 08/01/2019 20:38

It’s possible ... but ambitious and you might find it hard to live up to, which could be de-motivating in the long run.
I lost 8 stone in 22 months with SW - over that timepsan I probably only had 2 or 3 weeks when I didn’t lose anything so pretty consistent. I followed the plan religiously and added in exercise when I got to a weight which made it comfortable physically.
Good luck!

Honestly? I think you'd be setting yourself up to fail. Weight loss isn't linear. More weight is lost at first then the last few stone can be stubborn. I'd aim for 3 stone in 6 months and reassess once you can see your average weekly loss. Good luck! Smile

NoMoreMarbles · 08/01/2019 20:45

I lost just over 3st in 6 months so definitely do-able! I'm going back on my diet I think (we online) so aiming for a similarity this year! Fingers crossed for us both!

Groovee · 08/01/2019 21:19

I lost 5.5st over 21 months. My friend wanted to lose 7st in a year and was really upset when it didn't happen.

Littlegoth · 08/01/2019 21:26

I’m also hoping to lose 5 - 6 stone. Someone I know lost 8 stone in just over 15 months (dropping from 19 to 11 stone) - she was very very strict though.

halfwitpicker · 08/01/2019 21:27

Of course, it's doable.

BlackPrism · 08/01/2019 22:05

At your size, yes. When you reach 10 stone and under the loss will slow right down and be very hard. I was going to the gym every day and eating 1000 calories to get down to 8 stone from 9 in a couple of months.

BlackPrism · 08/01/2019 22:06

Sorry, I meant at your size it will be difficult (mid read actual Q) because you're not overly large

Auntpetunia2015 · 08/01/2019 22:09

It’s possible. If you follow it to the letter and also exercise. If your on Facebook follow slimming world mum of 1 or she’s Claire Ohara on Instagram. She lost 8st In a year and posts amazing food and especially treats all of which are spot on plan.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 08/01/2019 23:29

I lost 4 stone in a year which was hard but doable. I was eating 1200 cals a day and lifting heavy weights three times a week as well as running approx 20km each week. The weights were what made most impact. I need to start again. Good luck.

FiveNightsAtMummys · 09/01/2019 13:03

I've lost almost 2 stone (1lb off) in 2 months. I weighed 14 stone 8.

Futureisland · 09/01/2019 13:10

A friend of mine lost 6 stone in 1 year 3 months and she was really dedicated to slimming world. Just go for it. Follow it carefully and see where you get. Don't be too cut up if you don't quite lose 6 stone....you will still see a significant difference.

nevermorelenore · 09/01/2019 14:19

A friend of mine lost 9 stone in a year with SW, but her starting weight was over 20 stone so she lost weight very quickly in the early days. She’s also young and has lots of free time to do the gym etc!

I noticed that the women in our local SW group who were already at 10/11 stone tended to lose quite slowly. Maybe 1lb a week would be more realistic towards the end?

Lovelivingbythebeach3 · 16/01/2019 19:51

I lost 7 stone in 13 months, but was pretty focussed for most of that time....keeping it off is almost harder! So yes, it can be done, but may need to include planning things like self catering holidays so you can be in control of your food easily,. Also life gets in the way, so stresses and upsets can derail the most determined slimmer.

Zoflorabore · 25/01/2019 06:12

My 15yr old ds has lost just under 6st in 11
Months with SW.
He got to 5st in 8 months but the last stone has been tough for him with GCSE mocks and revision.
For the first 6 months he was going to the gym religiously but stopped in September due to the amount of school work he has.
It's definitely doable.

Good luck :)

Wilma55 · 04/01/2024 14:32

@Rhodes19845 y
It might be best to start a new thread. Do you mean doing slimming world on a budget? Or there is a current sw thread you could ask on.

Hi, I have recently lost six stone in 15months I was 15st 8 am now 9st 8 but my height is 5ft5. I have had a few different opinions from nurses and doctors on my weightloss with some agreeing it was unhealthy fast and can cause problems but others seem to think it is fine. One thing I would recommend though is exercise well alongside the dieting because I didn't realize this is now have loose skin on underarms and mum tum area xx
