Does slimming world work? And how quickly?

I'm desperate to lose my baby weight (3 stone!) So far have been calorie counting and trying not to eat carbs but I'm finding it difficult because I'm breastfeeding my 3 month old which makes me very hungry! Also it's difficult to find motivation as I don't have a to w to compete diet with. Would slimming world be a better option and has anyone lost a significant amount of weight in a few more baths while following it?

Hey Blondes! Congratulations! SmileSmile

Come and join us on my food diary thread. Tis really supportive.

avocadotoast · 24/07/2015 05:25

mummy why five weeks?

A stone in five weeks isn't healthy. Healthy weight loss for most people is 1-2lb a week, so at the most in five weeks you're looking at 10lb. Any more than that you're messing with your body.

Lillamyy1 · 24/07/2015 06:57

Wow, this is all rely encouraging!
I joined on Weds and it feels amazing to be able to eat pasta, rice and potatoes! I haven't eaten those things without feeling guilty for about 9 years!!
I was doing mfp before (last month and a half) and eating very little carbs. I lost nearly a stone but couldn't stick to it as I was constantly hungry
It'll be interesting to see if I really do lose weight, especially as I'm suddenly eating carbs again.
Bella what you said about bf and your baby losing weight is interesting - my little boy did actually drop to the 50th percentile from the 75th when I first started doing mfp but he was feeding as much as normal so I don't think it could have been reduced milk? Maybe less fat in the milk?? Anyway he stayed on the 50th since ten but I'll get him weighed regularly to make sure all is well.
Calzone I'll join your thread too!

Oh I just answered the question
Was100% and lost 1lb in 3wk :)

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/07/2015 00:07

Was one of your weeks the star week?

Seems weird to lose 1 lb in 3 weeks if follow plan 100%

Lillamyy1 · 25/07/2015 05:23

Calzone I couldn't find your thread!
Blondes, yesterday I had:
B Toast and peanut butter (peanut butter was a syn), scrambled eggs with lean bacon
L Couscous salad
D Rice, grilled pork and peppers, courgette and onion fried in fry lite.
I'm allowed extra healthy extras due to breastfeeding but didn't eat them all as I wasnt hungry! I also had baby bels, cereal (blueberry wheats), lots of fruit, plain yoghurt sweetened with sweetener and for syns an options hot chocolate and slice of malt loaf.

What's the star week?

OP posts:
Lillamyy1 · 25/07/2015 07:29

Can you save your syns for a day or two and have them all at once, eg
cake?

Avocado I want to lose a stone to fit into a certain dress. And reading up about slimming world a lot of people seem to have lost that amount in that time. So basically SW is not good for those who have lost more than a stone in that time??? Now I'm confused:(

ewanhoozami · 25/07/2015 08:50

Is 'syn' an acronym, or is it another spelling of 'sin'?

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/07/2015 09:21

Sw call them syns

Sw call af star week - and can bloat coz of water etc - I was told to see what you lose in a month - as one week may gain but next lose

And yes I often use more syns at weekend /meal out /takeaway and the use less over week so I do 105 and count down

Last week had two Starbucks on one day which was 24 so over the average 10/15 day but as I had less mon to thur equalled out

Years ago I rem watching a programme about 4 diets - sw - ww - slim
Fast and can't rem the 4th possibly Cambridge - anyone remember this???

and girl on sw saves her syns all week and the. Had lots of vodka and diet coke when out partying - she still lost weight every week

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/07/2015 09:22

A healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs a week hence 8 a month tops

To lose a stone in a month that's 3.5 a week

mummybellybaby · 25/07/2015 09:39

Ok I understand a healthy weight loss is 1_2lbs per week, what I don't understand is how SW can be healthy then if a lot of people lose a stone or more in 5 or 6 weeks.

BellaOfTheBalls · 25/07/2015 16:45

SW is healthy, however it's essentially quite a low calorie diet; if I calorie count what I eat in a day, its often less than 1200 calories a day.

Personally, I can lose 1-2lbs a week just reducing carbs and exercising a bit more. With SW, if I'm on plan all week, I can lose 3-4lbs. My only criticisms with SW is that it's quite labour intensive, and it relies quite a lot on carbs. I've found my losses are far better if I stick to protein/fruit/veg during the day, then have carbs with my evening meal.

emmaluvseeyore · 25/07/2015 18:06

People will have big losses initially if their diet was particularly poor to begin with. Their body will settle down after the first few weeks and weight loss will slow down to a healthier level.

spancake · 25/07/2015 18:17

I lost about 3 stone on sw - quickly to start off, then if trailed off to half pound on, then half pound off then pound on and half pound off so I quickly got fed up with it and gave up. Slim and save is very quick but bloody hard to stick to.

mummybellybaby · 25/07/2015 22:16

Ah yes, that all makes a lot of sense. I think I need to cut back on carbs and probably calorie count as well.

Thanks for making it clearer for me everyoneSmile

BellaOfTheBalls · 25/07/2015 22:53

blondes best of luck with the wedding planning & diet. As you said it helps you, today I've had

B - cottage cheese and ham, muller light, grapes (I'm a grazer in the mornings and I hate eggs, which makes breakfast hard)
L - Nando's Blush butterfly chicken (skin removed), spicy rice, large salad, corn on the cob, 1 slice grilled halloumi, diet coke (allowed 8 syns just to be sure)
D - chilli con carne, couscous, HEa cheese & fat free yogurt

For snacks I had a HEb cereal bar & a fruit salad pot.

beadyboo · 25/07/2015 23:11

I love it! Been at target for 2 years and still follow it most of the time. I miss bread (still) but if I eat it I gain weight. It does involve cooking from scratch and you can't rely on the odd sauce in a jar etc. but it feels like proper food. Curries, chilli, shepherds pie etc.
Today I had
B - overnight oats (sachet of plain oats, frozen raspberries, sweetener and fat free yogurt, leave in fridge overnight - amazing)
L- jacket potato, beans, side salad. Watermelon.
D - chicken and sausages on BBQ, loads of salad.
SYNS - 10 mikado sticks

Lillamyy1 · 26/07/2015 03:35

I had
B -,toast,eggs and bacon and I big side of melon and Apple
L - rice salad with ham
D- ham
Fe off the wagon massive though and had nachos with guacamole and sour creamy Blush that's my subs for tomorrow gone too!
