Half a f******g pound weight loss after first week. Absolutely gutted.

I've really sacrificed and followed it to the book - and kept syns to an absolute minimum.

The person I go with has lost six times as much - and had a blow out weekend.

I'm gutted. What the bastard point?

I don't actually think I lost anything at all my first week (now on week 2) as I originally weighed with shoes on then first weigh they said take off shoes and I did without thinking. The scale then said 1lb loss and I had stuck to it all week religiously. I feel quite sceptical about it all actually as haven't seen any shift on my own scales this week so far either.
Could it be SW just doesn't work for some people?

Nopenope · 27/04/2015 19:31

I burst out crying. I've felt hunger this week and really gone without. I just don't understand it.

What's the point?

Do you feel your clothes are looser?

Nope- careful not to shock your body into retaining fat. You shouldn't feel hunger on SW. That's the whole point. If you do, then eat free foods or fruit and veg in between.
I put on weight when I STOPPED eating due to depression. My body went into starvation mode, and lack of sleep further hindered me. My metabolism basically stopped. Now feeling better, I'm eating again and doing SW. And because I'm eating regularly again the weight is starting to come off! That's just my experience. HTHSmile

Ledkr · 27/04/2015 20:07

You will lose next week, I'm like that, it takes me ages to lose weight.
I'm doing SW and doing ok. I'm never hungry tho. If you are starving hungry you aren't eating enough so won't lose weight.
Stick with it.
Today I've had fruit, yogurt, big chicken salad, crisps, chicken casserole potatoes and veg and will prob have a curly wurly later too.
Look on some of the food diarys on mn or minimims

Nopenope · 27/04/2015 20:19

Do you really think though that whole starvation mode thing is real! Sad

? Not !

On the weeks where I've lost least, I found I had eaten enough of the good stuff - not enough fruit and veg essentially. I had fallen into the trap of thinking hunger=good. My biggest ever losses are always just after oayday when I stock up of delicious fruits and veg and make them a massive part of meals and snacks.

CtrlAltDelicious · 27/04/2015 20:23

Fucks sake. I had NOT eaten enough of the good stuff, that should say.

MrsPigling · 27/04/2015 20:27

If you're doing SW properly, you will not feel hungry. You need to eat much more than you think, just free stuff. Also use your syns!

MisForMumNotMaid · 27/04/2015 20:30

Its unlikely to be starvation mode after a week but it could be your body adjusting to the new way of eating. An increase in fibre, possibly significant depending on your historical diet, may be affecting bowl movements etc.

You shouldn't be hungry. I've lost just under five stone on Slimming world and I agree with pp that biggest losses are often weeks were you feel you've eaten most.

Are you planning all your meals and syns? Are you drinking lots of fluid? The reduction in salt from not having so much processed food for me ment I didn't feel as thirsty and got a little bunged up in the early days.

Do you want to post a food diary/ typical day or two to go through?

Don't throw in the towel just yet. Variation in clothes could change things by 1lb as could not having been to the loo etc.

Loobylou3 · 27/04/2015 20:42

Nope...no change with my clothes and I'm on just a couple of stretchy dresses and one pair work trousers so was really hoping for a good loss the first week! I am still trying this week but I am not optimistic for a loss the week! I have also cut out a lot of the tea/coffee I was drinking and just drinking a chamomile/green tea combination! I suppose in my head I was hoping for at least a couple of pounds each week for first few weeks at least!

Nopenope · 27/04/2015 20:54

Loony I'm losing the tea too! It's the only thing it can be - although that seems ludicrous! X

You aren't eating enough.
You need to eat stacks of food and eat Syns too.
And drink lots of water.

Midori1999 · 27/04/2015 22:19

Try not to worry about it or get disheartened. My friend rejoined SW after having her baby and gained a pound in her first week. She was devastated and she knew what she was doing and had totally stuck to plan. Next week she lost 6lb and she's now 3st lighter.

You shouldn't be hungry and don't deprive yourself. Have your syns if you feel you want/need them. If you feel like you've eaten really well then losing half a pound is a bonus. If you've been hungry then losing half a pound will feel rubbish.

Some weeks you just lose more than others with no obvious reason. Do keep a diary and get your consultant to check it though. My friend was having fruit juice thinking it was free and a lady at my group was making banana pancakes (just mashed banana and egg) thinking they were free, but they're not. The week she stopped having them she lost 5lb.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 27/04/2015 22:26

Even if you did lose 0.5lb of fat this week that's still a loss and a step in the right direction. 1lb a week loss is the most you shod expect anyway.

MalletsMallet · 28/04/2015 09:58

Hi Nopenope

I started slimming world in June last year and since then I have lost 6stone 2lbs.

My first weigh in was a disappointment as I only lost a couple of pounds but my mother lost half a stone! The weight loss soon picked up though and for a couple of months I lost 4lb a week.

After those first few months my weight loss has been really erratic despite the fact I roughly eat the same things week in week out. Some weeks I'm down 3lb some weeks I stay the same. Other weeks I have gained and sometimes only half a pound off. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it at all!!

I can't believe I'm 6 stone lighter this summer than I was last year, sometimes I catch a glimpse of my reflection and do not recognise myself at all! Please don't be disheartened and give up, persevere for a couple of months at least then see how you're doing....I think you'll be surprised how much comes off Smile

Jamrollypolly · 28/04/2015 13:38

Weeks when I eat less I lose less weight. Try eating more speed food e.g. Melon, papaya, apples and pears.

sebsmummy1 · 28/04/2015 13:48

I think you have to keep at it for a couple of months and see if you lose before you can decide if the diet is right for you. I found SW allowed me to eat too much. I hit target but mainly because I was breast feeding and restricting calories beyond what the suggest. I now do WW and find it is a better eating plan for me.

Poppins27 · 28/04/2015 13:57

I agree with what everyone else is saying, you really shouldn't be feeling hungry. If you are, have a snack just stick to low syn snacks. My weightloss increased massively in the 2nd and 3rd week. I was sticking to low syn meals but was missing out including 1/3 super free foods with meals etc until it was pointed out to me. Are you on Instagram at all,I follow other sw users and get loads of ideas for meals on there and you can get an idea of how much can pass your lips.

Also syns are there to be used, don't deprive yourself of anything in moderation else it will be much more tempting to binge!! Good luck Smile

noodle8000 · 28/04/2015 14:03

It might take a little time for your metabolism to turn around. In the meantime like others said make sure you're eating enough.

tabulahrasa · 28/04/2015 17:57

As everyone else has said, you shouldn't be hungry - not only should you be using syns, you can snack on free food as well, or have bigger meals as long as you've got the third of it as speed foods.

As for not losing - some people have huge losses in their first week, some don't, give it a few weeks to get into the swing of it, make sure you are keeping a food diary and give it to your consultant to make sure you are following it properly and then see how it goes after a longer period of time.

RufusTheReindeer · 29/04/2015 23:19

Although I think it can be very successful as a diet I don't think it's suits everyone

I always used to put weight on as well

Ledkr · 30/04/2015 08:27

I think you have to be sensible and realistic on sw and not be ridiculous with the free food.
I'm trying to reduce my huge portion sizes anyway so I'm pretty sensible and bulk out with veg.
I'm enjoying the diet and feel lovely when I put my jeans on and they are comfy.
