Are there syns in the tomato purée?

I've been good today

B - Bran flakes and Skimmed milk (HexAB)
L - stir fry - chicken, mushroom, beansprouts, noodles
D - don't know yet, maybe scrambled egg and bacon or chicken tikka and salad

Snacks - melon, grapes
Syns - none yet but I think I have to pay back some from the other day anyway, I had a chicken chow mein thinking it was 7.5 syns but saw in my book today that it's 16.5!

InspirationFailed · 12/04/2014 16:33

How do you do your chips? Mine never come out right

jumblebee · 12/04/2014 16:50

Inspiration I don't think there's any syns in tomato purée (at least I hope not!)

I cut them in thin stripes, boil for 10 minutes, generously spray a big baking tray, tip all chips on to tray and spray again. Add salt, pepper and paprika and bake at 190 for 30 minutes. Soooo yummy :)

InspirationFailed · 13/04/2014 09:12

I think my tomato purée is synned because it has oil in it, only 0.5 syns though so I can't complain really :-)

I bought Easter Eggs for my boys yesterday, I can hear them calling to me! There is something like 45 syns in a medium egg though Shock I was going to treat myself to one but I'm not sure it's worth it - I really want to lose weight and look half decent for summer, the last few years I've been jealous of people in pretty summer dresses and shorts whilst I'm wearing jeans and trying to cover my muffin top.

I've had oat pancakes for breakfast (with bananas, strawberries and raspberries) I used a cherry flavoured yoghurt in it today and it was a bit tasteless, I've used toffee flavour before but it leaves a nasty after taste, my favourite is strawberry I think.

I'm 13.3 at the moment and want to lose 3.5lb this week to take me up to a stone but I doubt it will happen, I've been nibbling all week - ds2 made chocolate at school (3 different types of chocolate, marshmallows, popping candy etc) and came home with a big block of it - it was gorgeous and I ate loads of it!

Easter Syns Shock

jumblebee · 13/04/2014 20:33

I just googled and I think you're right about the tomato purée Hmm but at least it's not a huge number of syns!

My dad bought me an Easter egg (it's good to know he doesn't think I'm too old for them) and last night I just wanted to eat it ALL! Such a crappy day, I'm sure the guilt of eating the egg would have made me feel worse!

InspirationFailed · 13/04/2014 20:45

I was doing really well today until my boys baked fairy cakes and decorated them with icing. I ate 6! One straight after the other. They were so yummy. Feel guilty now though!

B - oat pancakes with strawberries, raspberries and banana
L - chicken tikka and salad with mint yoghurt
D - Chinese chicken and mushroom curry with egg fried rice (3 syns)
Snacks - melon
Syns - lots of fairy cakes Blush

Tuckingfypo · 14/04/2014 16:30

Can you post the recipe for your oat pancakes? They sound like a nice alternative to my breakfast! :)

I wouldn't worry too much, on Saturday I had a very large fererro rocher ice cream! God it was good :) and then chicken fajitas (3 of them :-/)

Yesterday and today have been better though! I had a goats cheese, walnut, pomegranate and beetroot salad for lunch yesterday. Not ideal with the cheese on it but I had my syns to cover that part (and resisted all the yummy looking chocolate cakes!)

InspirationFailed · 14/04/2014 17:09

I think the proper recipe is 3 eggs and 4 tables spoons of sweetener but I don't like the after taste of the sweetener and I find it to eggy so in changed it slightly.

35g of porridge oats (HexB)
1 pot of muller light (I use strawberry, I've tried other flavours but some leave a nasty after taste (toffee!) and others don't give any flavour)
1 egg

Some people soak the oats in the yoghurt overnight but I haven't found that it's made much difference if you just mix them before you cook them.

Mix the egg in with the porridge and yoghurt (I save a bit of the yoghurt for drizzling), spray a frying pan with fry light and that's it :-) my mixture makes three decent sized pancakes, they are quite thick, they can be a pain in the backside to flip though so I spray the spatula with fry light too, not that it really helps! If you make them to thin you can't flip them at all and they fall apart but still tasty.

I but loads of fruit and some yoghurt on top of mine.

I've been nibbling again today, just can't stop eating the last couple of days. I've had 2 alpen bars and a hot chocolate.

B - pancakes (only ate half though as I tried cooking them with the fruit already chopped up and added to the mixture, couldn't flip them at all and it ended up like crumble, would've been nice with custard for a dessert!)

L - bacon, quorn sausages and eggs (2 syns for the sausages)

D - not really hungry. Got beef in the oven but don't fancy it.

Snacks - alpen bars and grapes

Weigh in tomorrow morning, I don't think it is going to go well, I've been over my syns every day this week.

Hello everyone.

End of week 3 for me. It has been an interesting past few days as I went a bit crazy on Saturday night. Had my ripple early in the day but craving choc later in evening. Ate a maltester bunny, a ripple and a cookie. So first lapse. Got to happen sometime.

Fast forward to today. Had cooked breakfast so only a banana at lunchtime and then a cookie when I was out. I was feeling so bad because I figured I had only lost a pound and wondered why the effort. Did I also mention the little Lindt bunny?

So to weigh in this evening, was surprised to see that I had lost 2 pounds so got my first award....1/2 stone so really pleased. Am determined to move on from the lapses and aiming for another 2 pounds this week.

The syn values in eggs are shocking and thanks for the pic inspiration. I have bought a little bag of sainsburys dark chocolate eggs. I am going to weigh them and syn them and not have any other chocolate this week. Each egg is 66 cals!

Having the weigh in on a Monday is hard as no time to recover from the weekend if it didn't go to plan. 5 weeks until my hols and want to lose a half stone by then.

I want to loss 2lb this week who's with me xx
Iggity · 14/04/2014 22:21

Worked it out. 3.5 syns per egg. The bag is going to last me a while I hope.

InspirationFailed · 15/04/2014 10:55

I only lost 1lb this week, I was hoping for more but realisitically I've nibbled all week so shouldn't be surprised. Only 2.5lb to go until my first stone! Which isn't going to happen this week as I won't be able to resist the eggs! I think the eggs are highly synned as they have oil in them to make them glossy and to keep their shape.

I've lost 11.5lb in 4 weeks now so I should be pleased but I keep reading about people who are losing loads more so I'm a bit disappointed.

Well done Iggity! Weighing in the evening is harder I think cause you've got the whole days worth of food to add on!

Iggity · 15/04/2014 14:14

Inspiration, that is great weight loss. I have 13 more pounds to lose and worked out that I will get my club 10 and target on the same date. Can't wait to get my one stone award. Would love to be at 11.5 pounds.

Are you going to have any syns this week or are you planning to save them up for Sunday? I haven't bought any of my life saving Ripple bars yet but wondering will I last. I am off work this week also and it's a little harder with less structure to the day.

InspirationFailed · 15/04/2014 15:40

I'm going to try and save them (famous last words!) I've been looking at what I've been eating and it's no wonder my weight loss has slowed down - I have mint sauce with most meals, about half a jars worth (I know I'm gross!) I thought it was syn free but it's not it's 1 syn for a level tbsp - I must have at least 10 tbsp on my dinner Shock and options hot chocolate - I have twice the recommended amount and still count it as 2 syns when it should be 4, I have 2 mugs of it a day! I've bought some caramel coffee and some vanilla coffee as that's free to drink instead.

I look no different at all for losing weight, I've lost inches but only on my thighs - it's my stomach and top if my arms I want to lose them from. I've bought a salsa DVD to try and get some exercise in - I tried the 30 day shred and couldn't do it Blush

I got a multi pack of Mars bars but I've hidden them in the back of the freezer! I normally have one on Tuesdays but I'm not hungry so would only be eating it because it's there and not because I want it.

InspirationFailed · 16/04/2014 08:45

Today's breakfast! I used 2 eggs instead of one and they were so much easier to turn :-)

I want to loss 2lb this week who's with me xx
PhoebeMcPeePee · 16/04/2014 21:08

Those of you having your HEB 2 alpen light bars for breakfast I would honestly look at switching to a more substantial & sustainable (in the long term) brekkie such as cereal or eggs then save your alpen bar(s) as snacks. I too find the less processed food I eat the better my weigh-in result so generally try & use syns for something more wholesome like olive oil to cook an omelette rather than chocolate bar before bed. Easier said than done but it definitely makes a difference (I see 3-4lb losses when I eat lots of superfree rather than 1lb loss when I stick to plan but with lots of naughty snacks built in)

Iggity · 16/04/2014 23:18

Thanks for the info phoebe. I eat the alpen light bars as they are easy.

Making porridge at work is a hassle. Having to bring it and the milk in along with frozen berries for a topping and then go upstairs to microwave it and back down again, wash bowl etc etc, it all takes too much time which I don't have.

So cooked food is not an option apart from weekends and cereal is time consuming. I just want to take something out of my bag and eat it with a cup of tea. I know alpen light bars are not the answer but it's finding something that is.

I guess I could keep porridge and milk in work and just bring in the berries. I am being lazy more than anything. I know I need to give up the chocolate. I love avocados so maybe I will use my syns for something like that, along with Ryvitas for breakfast.

I am off work this week so have had a cooked breakfast two mornings which has been yummy and kept me full (grilled tomatoes, poached eggs, mushrooms) and a slice of toast.

Porridge and berries in the morning as going out early rather than the alpen light bars!

InspirationFailed · 17/04/2014 17:46

I've been good the last few days asim trying to save my syns up. I've been having a big lunch and then being to full to eat at dinner time. I know I'm meant to use some syns but I feel so guilty about doing it!

Yesterday I had

B - oat pancakes with blackberries, strawberry and banana. Yoghurt

L - gammon with SW chips and egg

Snacks - grapes and watermelon

Today I've had

B - yoghurt with blackberries, strawberries, banana and an alpen light crumbled over it.

L - chicken, mushroom, beansprouts, egg noodles (ran out of soy sauce so it was bland, only are half)

Snacks - watermelon, grapes, other alpen light bar

Syns - half a Mars duo bar that I've been resisting for 10 days!

I do really badly if I don't have a decent breakfast, I don't think I will be buying alpen light bars again (especially as they aren't going to count as a HexB anymore!) as I just want to eat the whole box!

I really want to lose 2.5lb this week to get my stone award. I've got a meal at an Indian buffet on Sunday though, plus I will have 4 childrens worth of Easter eggs around the house!

InspirationFailed · 17/04/2014 17:47

I am now a bit gutted that I've eaten my Mars bar. I only allow myself one chocolate bar per week and now it's gone!

InspirationFailed · 18/04/2014 18:52

B - Bran flakes with a banana and skimmed milk
L - I forgot about lunch Confused
D - chicken and potato curry (syn free) with boiled rice.

Snacks - grapes and water melon
Syns - a quarter of an Easter egg Grin it was delicious!

Iggity · 18/04/2014 22:54

Breakfast was grilled tomatoes, mushrooms and poached eggs
Lunch was baked potato with half can of beans and salad
Dinner was prawns with rice and a ratatouille type concoction
Pudding was natural yoghurt with berries plus some melon earlier in day

Ripple bar is calling.....

Inspiration, hear about the Alpen light bar changes too. I have 2 boxes in cupboard but they are the old kind. Going to start making bigger effort for breakfast or else get up at 4am to eat it!

I had bought a couple of bags of mini eggs to give to my sisters on sunday but now neither are coming for lunch. I suspect my DH will zoom in on them but I was considering keeping them for my syns during the week if I can exert some self control!

My holiday is now one month away (21 May) and desperate to have knocked off another 5 pounds by then so think it works out as 5 weeks so a minimum of 1 pound per week would be great although 2 a week would be even better. I can't believe I am nearly at week 4 of this. It has not been too hard at all despite a couple of hiccups. I didn't enter my food for yesterday as had 2 Tiger rolls with plain chicken for lunch with mango. I'm not really craving bread but there weren't a lot of options as I was out and hungry. A packet of chicken alone didn't seem enough. More preparation needed to deal with things like this!
