Minimammoth · 02/10/2013 12:14

Hat does not sound good darkesteyes. I have just blown all my hard work with a bacon baguette do not tell me how many syns it is. Oh and a piece of ginger cake.

Churmy123 · 02/10/2013 13:18

Might be worth getting checked out at the Docs Darkesteyes.

I've been doing SW for 5 weeks and have lost 16lbs. I had a large-ish loss in week 1 (5lbs) and have then lost between 2.5lbs and 3.5lbs a week since.

Today I will be having:

Breakfast: 1 large banana and a hi-fi bar (HEB)
Dinner: Homemade vegetable soup (syn free), a packet of french fries (4.5 syns) and a shape yogurt (1syn)
Tea: Beef stew (syn free)
Snacks throughout the day: apple, grapes, tea, coffee, diet coke, milk (HEA)

Darkesteyes · 02/10/2013 13:30

i will make an appointment. What fucks me off as well is the fact that i power walked 15 miles in the first week and 12 miles in the second. Week 1s loss was 3 pounds Week 2s was 1 pound.
And others are losing 7+ pounds in first week
I cant do any more than im doing im following the plan and excsersising. How come others are losing more and they are lighter than me Confused Angry

Churmy123 · 02/10/2013 13:51

It can be demoralising when the losses aren't what you expected! Are you eating enough? Keeping a food diary?
x

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2013 14:06

well done losers- keep up the good work and i agree that a food diary does help :)

dark, I've always had quite small losses compared to the other members at group. I go with someone who weighed the same as me when we started, the weight is dropping off her and she constantly cheats!!! bitch she's now 10lbs lighter than me, I think.

I'd definitely check that everything is ok at the docs. Perhaps you need more of something in your diet.
If I've been really good and then pig out on high fat rubbish, I would occasionally get stomach ache.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

pinkoneblueone · 02/10/2013 22:10

Hi all 1/2lb off tonight so glad it wasn't a gain I ripped the arse out the diet last week :/ I seem to loose less now I'm more active I think I cycle 90 miles a week and do 30 sit ups a night and haven't had massive losses I only have a stone (maybe 2 we'll see how I feel) till I'm at target so the losses are smaller these days. Best see the doc about your tummy if its sore.

higgle · 03/10/2013 09:07

After a pretty awful September, when I managed to put 3 1/2 lb back on I have now lost 2lb for two weeks running and am just under 10 stone. Another 3lb to my 3 stone certificate. I think the September wobble would have been the end of the diet for the "old me" but I hoped that if I just hung on in there and kept turning up I'd get back on track, and now I'm full of enthusiasm again. All my size 10 jeans, except one, now fit so I think as soon as the Sainsburys skinnies are comfortable I'll call target - quite excited and frightened that this is only a couple of months away.

Churmy123 · 03/10/2013 11:59

Do you guys do the extra easy plan??

Quite a lot of the members in my group still follow the green/red day plan but I find extra easy much easier!

Todays food diary:

Breakfast: strawberries and an alpen light bar
Dinner: mug shot, packet of french fries, yogurt
Tea: salad, jacket potato and spicy chicken with a bit of low fat mayo
Snacks: apple, banana, grapes, tea, coffee, diet coke
Exercise: 1 hour zumba class

Darkesteyes · 03/10/2013 21:32

Sorry but i wouldnt find an alpen light bar and a handful of strawberries very filling.
Ditto your lunch.

I have no gall bladder so process food differently. Saw doc today She said it was colic caused by acidity in the fruit. she told me to avoid these foods.
Oranges (and anything from that family like tangerines satsumas.
Kiwi
Raspberries.
Lemons
Plums
Grapefruit
Starfruit.
And anything remotely citrussy or too acidic.

She also told me she doesnt like diet clubs when i told her people are losing bigger amounts than me.
I took my food diaries with me. She said she doesnt like these clubs because the people losing weight at a slower pace or only aiming to lose a pound a week are made to feel like failures. The consultants can put pressure on people to lose more pounds each week than their system is capable of.
She told me that half a stone was a good amount to lose in six weeks. And to keep on excsersising. She thinks the fact i am doing 12 to 15 miles a week is great and that i should keep on doing that. She also examined my stomach and chest with a stethoscope and said my tummy is working too hard because of having to process all the acid. (she was right i had the shits this morning after having raspberries in my Weetabix.) she also said the bloating would show on the scales as a gain because of the excess wind caused. So i cant win either way. So im going to go to class but do things sensibly. my weight loss will probably be slower but i dont care. My health is more important than what i look like.

Darkesteyes · 03/10/2013 21:33

Fairygen i havent had anything high fat for TWO MONTHS.

Darkesteyes · 03/10/2013 21:34

I avoid bananas because they also give me the same pains

Darkesteyes · 03/10/2013 21:36

Doc also said that the same diet will not work for everyone as we are individuals and we are all different. She cited this as another reason she doesnt like slimming clubs.

Darkesteyes · 03/10/2013 21:43

I had to give up diet coke due to an overactive bladder.
It irritated my IBS too.
Im happy with losing steadily and slowly.
I got gallstones the first time i was at Slimming World through losing weight too quickly.
(a stone a month for seven months ten stone in all ) it was the most physically painful time of my life.
So i know what can happen to someone who loses weight too quickly. Unfortunately from experience.
I have been through enough pain im not willing to put myself through any more.

Another wonderful side effect is im fucking ravenous tonight because ive shit everything out.

higgle · 04/10/2013 15:16

I can't understand all this emphasis on large weekly weigh losses - you would have to starve yourself to consistently lose over 2.5lb. If you have several stones to go the first few weeks will sometimes show large losses but the reality is that once you become closer to target a pound or half a pound is not only realistic but beneficial. 1 lb a week is nearly 4 stone in a year. You stand a much better chance of keeping it off if it is a slow steady weight loss, and you will look better too, as the skin adjusts naturally. I must say that my experience of SW does not include pressure being put on people to lose lots each week - every little half pound is a matter of great celebration. Even if someone stays the same or puts on a little mention is made of how well they have done previously.

SummerHoliDidi · 04/10/2013 19:26

I think we all put pressure on ourselves to lose the big amounts each week. I know I do. It is difficult not to if other people are though. My group leader doesn't try to put pressure on but she does get more excited by the big losses and praises people who set big targets for the following week.

Your approach seems sensible darkest, adjusting the plan to suit you and your health. I'm managing an average of just over a pound a week which is fine by me, although I get a bit disheartened by other people at group who have lost more than me, quicker than me.

This week people at work noticed that I've lost weight and the seemed really thrilled that I've lost 1 st 3 lbs in 3 months. I'd been feeling a bit fed up with how long it's taking but that conversation changed my perspective a bit and gave me a bit more confidence to just keep going slow and steady.

Darkesteyes · 04/10/2013 22:27

Thanks ladies Thanks Thanks Sorry to be such a misery.

Darkesteyes · 04/10/2013 22:39

higgle im talking about when the consultant asks "how much do you want to lose next week" If someone is 2 to 3 pounds away from having lost a stone or 2 to 3 pounds away from target they get asked "do you want to aim for those 3 pound this coming week"
I think this is too much pressure and it really gets on my wick Ive seen two different consultants do this now.
The first time i went to sw i lost ten stone My goal was 11 stone but i kept going up and down between 11 stone 1 and 11 stone 3 I never did hit goal at class (not till after i left) but the pressure i felt was immense I even had another member come up to me and say "You should be 10 and a half stone" I came very close to developing an eating disorder. I told the class this this week after another member said she was looking at a picture of a much slimmer woman as her motivation When the consultant said this was a good idea i interjected and spoke out about how it puts too much pressure on women because we are not all the same body shape. I made it very clear that i aim to lose 1 pound a week and that i am there to be a healthier version of me not to try and look like somebody else.

SummerHoliDidi · 05/10/2013 10:30

1lb off for me this week. That takes me to 1st 4lbs since the start of July. I even wore a slightly heavier outfit this week seeing as a summer dress is starting to look ridiculous in this weather, so maybe it was 1.5lbs this week counting the clothing weight.

Darkesteyes · 05/10/2013 15:36

Well done Summer. I reckon its slow but steady weight loss for us both.

SummerHoliDidi · 06/10/2013 07:06

I think it will be. It annoyed me when I set a target of 1lb for next week the leader asked if I was sure I'd be happy with that. I wouldn't have said it if I was desperate to lose more. I know myself and I need to go slow or I end up feeling really deprived and give up. I also have pcos which can make weight loss much harder according to my gp. I just don't think it's realistic to aim for more than a pound a week long term.

higgle · 06/10/2013 14:32

I'm quite shocked that class leaders are putting pressure on in this way. In my group most people don't set a target and there are always some who have birthdays etc. coming up who actually say their target is not to put on. Most people say 1 lb. Maybe that is why the group is bursting at the seams at the moment, the members are very comfortable with our lovely leader.
