How to not keep hitting the snooze button?

I'm SO terrible for it. I even have to set my alarm an extra 30-45 minutes earlier than I need to be in order to allow myself snooze time, otherwise I'll just be late.

Really want to stop this habit so I'm hoping some MN wisdom may give me the kick up the bum I need!

I just get up as soon as the alarm goes off. I have turned snooze function off so I can’t press it by accident.

Put the alarm on the other side of your room so that you have to get up to silence it. Only thing that works for me

TheChosenTwo · 09/10/2023 20:47

I would agree with putting your phone on the other side of the room so you physically have to get out of bed. And set your alarm for the time you actually have to wake up. Maximum sleep and no option but to get moving.

Fifireee · 09/10/2023 20:49

If I didn’t get up traffic would be horrific and I would have the worst journey.

RosesAndHellebores · 09/10/2023 20:50

We have a lumi thing because I struggle with SAD. Up with the lark in the summer. Down with the owl in winter. There's something blissful about the dozy sleep on the snooze button.

Sorry, not helpful.

Middlelanehogger · 09/10/2023 20:52

Put your alarm back to the actual time you need to leave, such that you actually see the time, jump up and know there's no time to waste!

I find I either get up instantly or snooze for 30min, once I enter that drowsy phase I can't leave it. But I can go from sleep to alert if I don't let myself enter.

Try putting your phone on the other side of the room?

FebMama · 09/10/2023 20:56

Ok so looks like I'll be putting my phone on the other side of the room tonight! Let's see how we get on.

My ideal plan is to wake up for 5am and work out, shower, get ready for the day before getting the kids up. Did it one day last week (somehow managed it) and felt amazing for it.

Thank you for the replies!

This is what I have had to do in the past I roll my phone away from me so I have to get up to switch my alarm off.

Comedycook · 09/10/2023 21:00

I have kept a flask of coffee next to my bed...I find just having a sip of that as soon as I wake really helps me

museumum · 09/10/2023 21:07

Sunrise alarm clock. It’s magic. By the time the alarm sounds you’ll be in a very light sleep due to the increasing light. It’s the only thing works for me.

gamerchick · 09/10/2023 21:17

Mine only lets you snooze twice. It's really mean.

SnakeyS · 09/10/2023 21:20

Those of you who have sunrise alarm clocks - which ones have you got?

I think I need one of these, as I’m also terrible at getting up.

This is it for me too - powerful motivator! That and I need to stop the alarm before it wakes DH as he doesn’t need to get up so early

TodayForTomorrow · 09/10/2023 21:24

Realy, set your alarm for the time you absolutely need to be up. I am awful for snoozing and this is the only thing that works for me.

I'm also aiming to get to the gym before work. I always feel amazing for doing it but I'm only accountable to myself and just too easy to not get up.

museumum · 09/10/2023 21:27

Think mine is probably the rise 100. I’ve had it about 8 years I think, maybe more.

AutumnWellyBootsandScarf · 09/10/2023 21:29

I used to just set it for one time(now set it for 5-10 minute intervals. I used to able to get straight up and get on, but now I can't. Due to health issues I wake up feeling dreadful and if I move about too fast I'm either sick or faint!

so now I leave my phone set to alarm every 5-10 minutes and try to wake up as best I can.

the things that get me out of bed is 1) traffic, if I leave even 5 minutes later it's dreadful & 2) having to explain why I'm late embarasses me.

no problem in the summer when it's light really early, but already it's dark in the mornings ☹️

SM4713 · 09/10/2023 21:32

How many hours sleep are you getting? Could you try going to sleep 15/30mins each night to get more? Are you anaemic or deficient? Thyroid? This can also make you incredibly tired. If the above is all fine, I too was going to suggest the waking light alarm thing.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/10/2023 21:36

Snoozing makes me
Feel awful

As just drifting off and beep beep beep

Far better to get an extra hour sleep and get up as alarm goes off

windywalk · 09/10/2023 21:39

Those alarms are look amazing!
I need to treat myself to one asap.

WandaWonder · 09/10/2023 21:41

I set the alarm for thr time I need to wake up it makes no sense to me to do it another way so I get up when it goes off

RosesAndHellebores · 09/10/2023 21:47

An older version of the lumi linked to above. I like the birdsong to wake up to.

cruisingwater · 09/10/2023 21:50

I have an old lumi light it's brilliant. I'm up most days at 5:30 to do some work, do exercise and then sort kids etc for school.I do snooze once or twice by only max 5 mins.
