Bunk bed??

Hi everyone. I'll cut this short. My 3 yo son and 4 yo daughter share a bedroom. They have bunk beds due to lack of space. Since having these my sons will NOT sleep in his own bed. He's always been good in his own bed when we had singles think it maybe because he could see his sister. But now he can't see her he falls asleep in the bed but gets up half way through the night screaming for me, he's become obsessively clingy towards me also. I'm not getting much sleep as he will not settle so for the good of my other two children with school etc. I bring him in with me so he doesn't wake anyone. It's getting quite bad he doesn't like the bed he tells me this. I don't really know what to do at this point.. anyone had any similar things happen the same? Thankyou

I think the 3yr old can learn to sleep in the bottom bunk if you are firm & consistent. So decorate it for him & then explain that this is his bed & he needs to stay in it all night. If he wakes in the night, do the boring 'back to bed' routine and stick to it. In 3 or 4 days, he will learn.

I'm going to try show you the bed. I stayed before this bedroom was not there old bedroom when they had there own beds I had to move them out for number of reasons 1 being the neighbours keeping them up all the time. The bedroom there in is a box room with a stair box in. There isn't enough room for a small set of drawers let alone another bed.
@Caspianberg please don't take that message in a bad way, I just explained about this , if it was that easy I would of done this without messaging on here x

@parietal I tried this also. He learned after maybe a week. Then started again I've done this maybe 2-4 times he just gets back out after a week of doing it

Toddler beds are really small, I suspect one might fit in even beside the bunks - he could sleep in it and then (hopefully!) graduate to the larger bottom bunk! At 3 I'd one dc who would start off in his bed but come through to me every night without fail.. It was ok, fortunately he grew out of it.

@Popitdontstopit hi! When did your little one grow out
Of this? My son will go to bed fine!! But no doubt he will wake up near 10/11pm then I'll put him back to bed he will scream hysterically for a good hour. Then wake up again more through the night..

@reighn having googled the ridiculously expensive bunkbeds, could it be too dark in there? Its v enclosed vs standard bunkbeds. I'd look for some kiddy safe lights to put under therr

@SleepingStandingUp hi, you are correct the bed did cost £1000 I thought it would be a lot more fun for him as he looses attention very fast so if it's fun he will cooperate. I do have a lamp in the bedroom he hates it on but my daughter won't sleep without it so he does have it. But I got a night projector too and that doesn't seem to work. I have put the mattress on the floor tonight and made a little comfy bed for him to see what he feels about not being in the bed , so far so good but if he gets up tonight I'll show him back to his bed and make it fun so he doesn't feel scared

Having googled the beds, I'll happily come round to sleep there if he won't! Grin
My ds grew out of it by the time he went to school.

We had bunk beds, the kids didn't mind them but I hated them! there was no where in the room for me to sit down!

We moved on to a trundle bed.
So it's like a single bed with one underneath that pulls out.

In the day the top bed works as a couch with lots of fab cushions at night pull the under bed out two beds !

Game changer for us.

Update guys, he's slept on the mattress I pulled OUT of the bottom bunk. And low and behold.. he's slept all night for 3 nights now. He woke up upset once lastnight and said he wanted to go in my bed I said " no your a big boy now in your big boy bed? " he said okay mummy and went back to sleep! I couldn't believe it!! Normally when that happens when he's in the bunk he will scream and try get past me for at least a hour it was draining! Cannot believe he just said "ok" and went back to sleep!!
