Well...I had to think of something! DH's suggestion "Eyes wide shut--the art of sleepwalking"

Hi everyone- hope you ladies had a lovely meet up.

I too had a rubbish night... must have been something in the air! Was it a full moon?!? Nothing compared to yours, by the sounds of it, tibs.

And this pm, when I was giving him his gum massage (!) I discovered DS's 1st tooth had cut thru! I was so proud!

EffiePerine · 21/02/2008 09:01

OK night here, despite short nap after all th excitment yesterday. Am all excited cos a friend has just had her baby - a few weeks early and so in SCBU but all seems to be well

MegBusset · 21/02/2008 09:04

Congrats for your friend EP

DS stayed awake all the way home yesterday (much screeching of excitement on the train, and waving out of the window) but crashed out as soon as we got back. He slept a straight 12 hours at night so must have worn him out!

Lovely to see you and your gorgeous DSs again

charliemama · 21/02/2008 09:21

Hello everyone. and for your lovely meet up. I had a nice day at the zoo yesterday with a friend and her Dcs. I also took my neighbours DS because she had her Dads funeral . Despite mine walking the whole way around they were really lovely and hardly moaned or winged. Which, when your Dcs are older you will appreciate how much of a miracle that is, especially when they're expected to walk around a large zoo for nearly 4 hours. (DS2 was allowed to ride in the buggy obviously!)

The nights continue to be good here, but DS2 wakes far to early for my liking (5.15 this morning) I lay with him in the bed after I fed him a patted furiously until he eventually nodded off again. But I woke up with back ache and desperate for the loo. Then DD got up at 6.50 so that was the end of my sleep. I am so not a morning person and DS1 and DD will sleep until at least 7 but usually longer so early starts are a bit of a shock.

(Hello Ginger I got your last e-mail, but as it is half term I have been busy in the day and shattered at night I will reply soon I promise .)

I have to go now as DS1 is nagging me to go on the Thomas the Tank engine website (screams silently). Sorry I can't reply to you all personally.

RoRo glad to see you're back. Working until midnight should be illegal IMO .

gingerninja · 21/02/2008 14:23

Hello all, just a quickie. We're officially shattered here as DD is unwell with a throat infection and we've had about 4 nights (and days) of really high temperatures / fevers and little sleep. I'm off work today sick too as I've got a touch of it but hopefuly she's on the mend. She has AB's but they are being spat in every direction, it's a nightmare trying to get any medicine into her.

Anyway, hope your meet up was fun, wish I could have been there. Here's for a sleepy few days. Despite feeling rotten my mood feels a little lifted. DH had his appoint with consultant and they haven't found any damage to the brain, although this means he has to live with the symptoms we're glad it's nothing sinister.

EffiePerine · 21/02/2008 14:26

Very good news re: the consultant Ginger. Did he have any suggestions on what might be causing the symptoms and/or treatment? Sorry for your crap nights - it's awful when they're ill . Do you have the ABs as a liquid?

gingerninja · 21/02/2008 14:31

Yes, it's a horrid bitter strawberry flavour which I had to administer while she laid trapped in a head lock between my knees, she still managed to spit most of it out and spray me, the bed and herself with it. Awful.

DH: Just perpetual migraine or something, seems he is having a constant migraine which really only time can resolve. (because they don't know the cause, it doesn't appear to be anything obvious) He's been given some strong tabs which are supposed to relieve symptoms within a couple of weeks, he's not optimistic as has had them before and didn't get any relief but he's been told to use them for a month to see what happens.

MegBusset · 21/02/2008 14:52

Ginger: you must be relieved although obviously it's not good for him to still be in pain. Would he consider trying alternative therapies like cranial osteopathy or acupuncture?

gingerninja · 21/02/2008 14:55

HI Meg, he's had acupuncture, seen a chiropractor and is currently having reflexology and reiki (a friend is a qualified practitioner) I've mentioned cranio osteopath and that will probably be the next port of call. Thanks

gingerninja · 22/02/2008 10:14

EP If you see this, please can you link me to the book on Amazon that you recommended some time ago, How to talk so kids will listen? There are a couple of books with the same title (different authors) so not sure which one it was. Thanks

DD had improved night. I lay awake for most of it. Typical!

EffiePerine · 22/02/2008 11:03

Ginger: this one

www.amazon.co.uk/Talk-Kids-Will-Listen-Child/dp/1853407054/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1203678125 &sr=8-1

I got it from the library and found it v helpful. Must remember to apply the principles now DS is into everything - get so fed up of saying no - no - NO - GIVE THAT HERE LEAVE IT ALONE PUT IT DOWN

gingerninja · 22/02/2008 11:25

Thanks, me too. DD has started to tantrum by stiffening herself and throwing herself backwards and the smallest possible thing.

Yesterday she was in the buggy, saying walk, walk. I got her out and she through a strop but didn't want to go back in the buggy. So I had a rigid toddler who didn't want to walk, ride in the buggy or be picked up. I don't understand toddlers!

MegBusset · 22/02/2008 12:35

Ah yes, DS has started doing that oh-so-helpful arching of back, throwing head backwards and going rigid thing. All the while casting baleful glances to passers-by as if to say, "See how unfairly I'm being treated here?"

charliemama · 22/02/2008 13:24

It is a toddler rule to only want what they are not allowed. It is a sibling rule to only want what the other one wants/has. My advice to any of you considering going for no.2 buy identical cups/plates...everything.

Mine drove me to distraction yesterday by insisting on taking their bike (DS1) and scooter (DD) on a walk and then just when we were conveniently just far away enough from home to make it not worth going back they both decided they were too tired to use their bike/scooter! I had to threaten to leave DS2 behind (the only way I could carry the bike) so that DS1 would consent to push/ride it home. It was not my finest parenting hour!!! (Especially when I stamped my feet in frustration )

RoRoMommy · 22/02/2008 22:31

Hello ladies! Ginger it sounds like you're having a rough time...good luck with DH and DD, sweetheart. Hello everyone else...I cannot contain myself a moment longer...here it goes:

DS IS WALKING DS IS WALKINGDS IS WALKING DS IS WALKING DS IS WALKING DS IS WALKING DS IS WALKING!!!!!!!!!!!!

And today I took the day off of work, and good thing I did because it was when he chose to walk for the first time across the entire room. [squeals!!!]

I feel like I've won the lottery...

here's to a good night's sleep before a full day of walking!

gingerninja · 22/02/2008 23:01

Well done that little man

Amberjee · 23/02/2008 21:05

i also really recommend this book between parent and child

callmeovercautious · 23/02/2008 22:42

Hi all Having lurked around for a bit Ro Ro made me think. I was on this thread ages ago with the most awful sleep problems. I pop in every now and then to see how Ginger and the old gang are getting on. Sorry to hear lo is poorly btw

So - RoRo - walking has been the best sleeping aid ever in our house DD would trick us every now and then by doing the odd whole night and things got much better from about 1 year but she is a late walker. So the past 2 weeks, at 17m she has been toddling around all day and sleeping all night. Thinking back she has always been sedentary, did not roll properly until 9/10m and even then I could leave her and she would still be in the same general area when I got back from the Kitchen or Loo. Perhaps it is just that she never wore herself out enough? She also will eat almost constantly when we are at home, fruit, milk, ricecakes etc. Funnily enough though she is going off her BFs now which is a bit sad but it is her choice!

Hope you all have a good nights sleep

EffiePerine · 24/02/2008 00:40

Congratulations RoRo . Great that you were there to witness it as well

Bad couple of nights here, looks like teething has hit again - DS was up 1am, 3am and 5am last night and has just woken again tonight, but am holding off feeding and he's settling down pretty quickly - not napping either which does not help. I think he's hit the 18mo growth spurt a bit early as well, as he;s stretching out before our eyes - ah well, This Too Shall Pass . Hope the rest of you are safely asleep

Amberjee · 24/02/2008 07:39

EP, ds was going so well. ah well, i'm sure it will just be a few days or a week and back to sleepy times (fingers crossed)

we are doing ok at hte moment, generally just a few noises in the night, but not requiring attention, up at about 6.30am. so why am i still so tired!?!

MegBusset · 24/02/2008 11:43

Hi all

Well done RoRo's DS! We have got standing here, but only for about two seconds before he realises he's not holding on to anything and topples over.

EP: damn those teeth. I'm sure he'll go back to good sleeping ways once they're through.

Hi Amber, Ginger and everyone else. Not much time to post today as it's DS's birthday so have party food to prepare and grandparents to entertain. Have a nice day everyone

EffiePerine · 25/02/2008 08:54

Happy birthday to Meg's DS . Hope the party went well.

DS is a bit coldy and grumpy, but improved night alst night - few moans before we went to bed but then woke with steam-engine screeches at 4:30 am . We pulled the covers over our heads and stuck it out for a few mins and eventually he went back to sleep and woke again at 6 (much better). Hopefully he'll stop this 5am lark eventually - our neighbours are probably cursing us this morning, the boy is loud!

Still no sign of teeth emerging, just lots f dribble and chomping. These ones may take some time...

Hope everyone else had a good night and is enjoying the sunshine

IAteRoseMaryConleyForBreakfast · 27/02/2008 12:36

Hi folks!

Sorry haven't been around ... bugger it, DS awake, this will be short ... but what with working and then wanting to spend every non-working spare minute with DS because he's actually quite nice now I haven't been online much. Oh, and selling the house, looking for a different job, that sort of thing ...

Anyway, good news about your DP, ginger, and I hope he gets some comfort from the reassurance. Here's hoping you find a way to manage the symptoms.

CM you made me laugh about stamping your feet when faced with a bike/toddler dilemma - and well done on the sleepy DS!

Ro, I am so with you on the working late thing, it sucks big time. I do love the huge grins on returning home though

Happy birthday Meg's DS!

EP, Amber, yetihead, anyone else I've missed - sorry, DS is wriggling towards the edge of our bed as I speak so must scoot. But good to hear you are all (relatively) well! We have had a 7 hour stretch in the last week, and although not even nearly repeated it has given me renewed faith! We have Tooth Number One just now so I imagine a second big sleep may be some time off - never mind, eh?

Happy snoozing.

tibsy · 27/02/2008 13:27
