Yes ladies we've got a shiny new thread to share our woes of chronic sleep deprivation, to hail all that is gloreous when something works and throw our arms in the air when it all goes wrong again.

One bad night doesn't impress us, we're awake more than we sleep cos we is 'ard I tell ya.

Hi Ginger,

My DS drools heavily on and off, and has done so since about 3 months. He also used to want to munch on our fingers but has recently stopped that. I can now feel the outline of lower teeth, but nothing's breaking through and he's not shown anything more definite, such as ongoing irritation, red gums, etc.

Amberjee · 08/07/2007 20:49

Meg, we do 9, 12 and 3 for naps, adjusting a little according to wake up times. seem to work out okay. we started that routine at 5 months.
apparently they then drop the late afternoon nap around 9 months.

Amberjee · 08/07/2007 20:54

all our LO's better be buying us diamonds at this rate Mrs TH!!
You know even when he sleeps, I still feel tired. I guess there's no beating it. went out on my own for 2 hours todya though (farmers markets and a coffee again).

MrsThierryHenry · 08/07/2007 20:58

Wow. 2 delicious hours to yourself when you're not even working at shifting baby weight like I do. I am in awe.

Amberjee · 08/07/2007 21:00

eh, the baby weight can stay ... i'd rather have a coffee.

MrsThierryHenry · 08/07/2007 21:05

Good for you, Amber. I'm now (a) bored with wearing the same old 'fat clothes' which I've had pretty much since my ds was born, (b) broke as I'm still on mat leave so can't afford to buy anything from shops more expensive than MK One. So I've got to lose the wobbles so I can get into my pre-preg clothes again, or I'll end up walking around naked, just for a change of outfit. Actually, er...not with this body I won't!

Tamdin · 08/07/2007 21:24

lol tibsy knew you'd get pissed!

Mrs TH we also used ncss with ds and now naps are perfect but can't seem to get to my voice being enough to settle him at night. He goes to sleep easily at night but wakes at 12 ish and like ginger's dd expects to come in with us. most of the time i don't mind but he's not a tiny baby anymore so must try harder!

Ginger knowing how smart your dd is your method of settling her on the mattres should work. if you can stick at it! the problem with me is at 2 in the morning i have absolutely no willpower and he ends up curled in behind me in bed. Hope tonight goes well

amber of your farmers market and yummy coffee

anyway off to bed. ds does well at this stage of the night so better go get a few hours in!

MegBusset · 08/07/2007 22:30

Wow busy evening. Amber I might try similar nap times to you, though whether he can stay awake for 2.5 hours from one nap to the next without having a major meltdown is another matter, seeing as he will normally only nap for 30-45 mins.

MrsTH I too have been reading the NCSS, and followed lots of it (consistent routines etc) but can't get past feeding to sleep at night (or occasionally using dummy if he's not actually hungry), he just won't sleep any other way if he wakes up properly. For naptimes we use the dummy, used to take him out in pram but he's too big for it (yet too small for stroller). I am really hoping he will magically be able to fall asleep without BF, without me having to do anything about it IYSWIM [lazy mummy emoticon]

Also DS ends up in with us most nights because he still feeds every 3 hrs through the night, and buggered if I can be bothered being awake at 4 and trying to carefully sneak him back into the cot. At that time in the morning he is prone to waking up fully and wanting to play, so we go for the easy route!

EffiePerine · 09/07/2007 07:18

Hope there were some good nights out there. Amber at sleeping through - did he repeat it?

No repeat her of the wonder sleep, but a big improvement. Asleep at 7ish, woke at 11, tried to get DH to settle him but he knew Mummy was home so was having none of it! Fed and he woke again at 2:30 and 5:30, in cot until the last feed I head him waking a few times in between, but he just shuffled about and went to sleep again .

Still 3 wakings but much better than waking every 2 hours or less, which we've had for weeks. Don;t think 2 nights can be called a breaksthrough but wathc this space...

Oh an I do have to declare a large dose of Medised before bedtime, so will see if he can do it wihtout the drugs

bagsundereyes · 09/07/2007 07:29

Morning Ladies,

Well, I missed a busy night here!

EP - glad to hear of your improved night, especially your DS settling himself back down again.

Ginger - how did the new plan work last night?

Tibs - glad you had a lovely time.

Mrs TH - I too am fed up with wearing my fat clothes. Problem is there are many activities I can do whilst comforting a grizzling baby, but eating biscuits is one of them!

Amber- can't wait to hear if LO did it again....

Well, after brief improvements we had a rather shoddy night. DD did not settle til 10pm, then woke 12, 2, 5.30, and off and on til 6.45. Feel shattered. And - oh joy - we are shortly off to the surgery for her 4 month immunisations. Never mind .

XcupcakemummyX · 09/07/2007 07:46

hi everyone
after tons of shouting the little monster feel asleep and i promised to stay with him if he woke
i strangley stuck to my word and squashed into his bed at 1 am when he told me he loved me lots
he fell asleep i didnt, returned to by bed
wonder what will happen tonight
have a good day

tibsy · 09/07/2007 08:35

morning all
bags for your night. hope all goes well with lo's immunisations
xcupcake - ahh bless. what a cutie

the tibsy house saw the attack of the boob monster last night
she was like a baby possessed dont know whether its teeth or growth spurt? bed at 7.15pm, fed at 12, fed at 3.15am. up for day at 7.30. not too bad when written down, but she seemed to feed forever and i appear to have lost the ability to fall asleep as she feeds

amber and tap hope your nights saw continued success

ginger and tam - i am most offended that you would presume it was me who got tipsy!!!!!

Tamdin · 09/07/2007 08:52

morning. she msut be growing again tibs ds is doing the same atm too.
last night he had:-

dinner:
roast beef, brocolli, carrots, mashed potato
home made strawberry cake plus small bowl of fresh strawberries

supper:
2 mini pancakes with manuka honey

bed at 8 6oz milk
1.30am 4oz milk
4.30am 4oz milk

it's starting to do my head in a bit. that 2nd bottle was only 3 hours after the first one so there's no way he needed it is there?

Am trying to be tough and this week am going to try and settle him if he wakes with his dummy and then put back into his cot. i love co-sleeping and it's def easier but like ginger's dd think he expects it now

MegBusset · 09/07/2007 08:54

Morning everyone. V unsettled evening for us... inc major high-pitched screaming around 11... eventually brought him into bed about 2 as nothing would settle him, after that it's all a blur but I think we slept OK til 7 with just one feeding in there somewhere.

Cupcake hope you got some rest in the end.

Tamdin · 09/07/2007 08:56

EP yay for your night's improving slowly but surely

bags for your shoddy night but at least your dd is still only tiny. imagine what a failure i feel when my ds is 17months old and i'm still here! hope the injections go ok. be brave

cupcake that sounds like a better night. if staying with him until he's asleep works for now then go with it

Tamdin · 09/07/2007 08:58

x posted meg. for screaming fit prob teeth? or wind?
glad you at least got a bit of sleep between 2 and 7

Amberjee · 09/07/2007 09:08

hi everyone .. busy busy busy!

well there was no repeat of sleeping through in our house. [digs around in her bag of excuses] AHA, developmental milestones! Just what we need. Anyway, LO is obsessed by rolling and can't stay on his back for one minute, yet I don't think he's entirely comfortable with sleeping on his front though he may have had a few tries last night. Cue me getting up to flip him around 11.45, 1.30 and 3. then up at 6. boo.

cupcakes, your LO sounds like a cutie bless him.

tibsy · 09/07/2007 09:12

meg hope you managed to get a little bit of rest or get some today

tam - yeah, think it must be growth spurt again. she's been taking a bottle before bed and has about 6/7 ozs. she also ate really well yesterday and was hungry for brekkie this a.m which is unusual for her.....cor ds can sure pack it away hey?!!

tibsy · 09/07/2007 09:13

amber just when we think we're getting there????!!!!

MegBusset · 09/07/2007 09:13

Bags, we had 4-month jabs last week and I was expecting major problems... but didn't bother him at all (amazing since he kicked off after the first two lots). Apart from screaming his head off at the nurse during the jabs, obv.

Anyway, today is the first day of the new nap regime... only 3 a day, spaced further apart. He has just gone to sleep for the first one, after 2 hours awake, with about 5 mins of yelling but not as big a meltdown as in the last few days, so here's hoping...

Amberjee · 09/07/2007 09:16

excuse me, could anyone tell me what you call trackpants in the UK? you know exercise trousers - what are they called here? he he [dumb aussie hides in shame]

MegBusset · 09/07/2007 09:16

Amber, DS is the same with rolling in the cot... he's decided he likes sleeping on his side, which is fine, but then sometimes rolls back onto his back and wakes himself up. And I have had to rescue him from his front a couple of times. Funnily enough he doesn't roll when he's in bed with us, perhaps that's why we all sleep better! Maybe it's because I sleep holding his hands by his sides (the only way to stop him waking himself up scratching his eczema...)

MegBusset · 09/07/2007 09:16

Tracksuit bottoms, or trackies.

Amberjee · 09/07/2007 09:17

tibs, sorry for your eat-athon night. although at least we won't get kicked off SIFTW. actually, how do i know you're not making it up to stay friends with us??

Amberjee · 09/07/2007 09:17

ah thanks meg, trackies it is.
