Yes ladies we've got a shiny new thread to share our woes of chronic sleep deprivation, to hail all that is gloreous when something works and throw our arms in the air when it all goes wrong again.

One bad night doesn't impress us, we're awake more than we sleep cos we is 'ard I tell ya.

Hello KrispieCakes, pleased to meet you. My DS has not stayed anywhere else overnight, even with us, but he is only 4.5 months. I would like to go camping with him but not sure the other campers would appreciate the multiple night-time wake-ups.

My sister keeps trying to get me to sign up for Facebook but I don't know when I would find the time! Have been doing some work from home the last week, while DH looks after LO. DH works from home and I have new-found respect for him, it's hard when you can hear giggles and laughs going on in the next room! But DH has enjoyed looking after him and the money will come in useful.

EffiePerine · 04/07/2007 21:36

Right, I have emailed

At work tomorrow so will not be able to do much till the evening.

I'm away on Saturday night at a work thing (nothing exciting) so DH is on boy duty all night - don't know what I will come back to on Sunday morning, but I'm hoping for a good night's sleep myself! Knowing my luck I'll have insomnia.

One waking so far, DS seems stuck in this 2-hr waking groove. Any attempts to stretch things out seem to make him worse, so am sticking with current routine for the time being.

krispiecakes · 04/07/2007 21:39

Hi meg, just on my way to bed now - panic if its later than 9.30!!

I love camping too but youre right, its hell with a baby. we've gone for cottage in west wales instead this year. i took my ds camping when he was 2 and he was WIDE awake at 4am every morning!

lucky to be able to do some work from home - and v lucky to have dh around too!

night everyone! heres to a good one (fingers crossed!)

tibsy · 04/07/2007 22:13

meggy, i love camping too. we're hoping to go this year, i figure we'll all be squished into the one sleeping compartment so i'll just be able to keep dd on boob all night. that should keep her quiet

knew i'd jinxed myself, shes already woken twice, crap!!!! ah well, am downing my vino then joining dp to watch a bit of rubbish tv before bed
night all x

Tamdin · 04/07/2007 22:18

Another 5 oclock start. What is it with this baby. She's full of beans. Unsettled night last night thrashing and just generally not sleeping. So very different to the night before.

I've left my DD to cry too for a few minutes while I leave the room and punch the air, go to the loo etc just to get a breather and she can cry for ages so I know that if I did cc (which I really don't want to) it'd be a slog.

I get a bit fed up of people telling me to leave her to cry and because I won't just basically telling me that it's my own fault and shouldn't complain. Even if they don't use those words you just know that's what they're thinking. I agree krispie that they'll do it when they're ready.

EffiePerine · 05/07/2007 07:06

Ginger: completely agree on th crying. Leaving DS to cry gest him really wound up (and isn't great for me either!). You do feel you're doing something wrong if your baby isn't sleeping, when some babies just don't sleep that well at night. DS is a happy, bouncy baby otherwise so there's ob nothing seriously wrong!

EffiePerine · 05/07/2007 07:07

DS had an unsettled night as well, partly cos I didn't bring him into bed with us. Did do one longer stint between 4 and 6 (brought him into bed then).

Amberjee · 05/07/2007 07:54

sorry for the bad nights out there

Amberjee · 05/07/2007 08:01

i'm going to be kicked off soon , but LO woke at 3 for a feed, then 5.45, but self settled until 7.

still feel exhausted though. can i stay?

bagsundereyes · 05/07/2007 08:13

Morning all,

Well done Amber . It's heartening to hear someone is making steady progress.

Ginger and EP for your rotten nights.
I've also got one of those babies who gets more wound up by crying, rather than finding it tension releasing.

DD didn't really settle at all last night . She slept mostly in 20 min bouts. Poor DH had her 12-4, and then I took her into the sitting room and we dozed on the sofa whilst he got some zeds.

Would someone like to pick an excuse for me? Teething's off the menu, so perhaps growth spurt, or mild cold? Maybe today is the day for medised after all .

Hoping to hear of more good nights.

krispiecakes · 05/07/2007 08:16

we had a great night too amber. in fact when dd hadnt stirred by 3am i was lying in bed wide awake worried that she had suffocated or something! told dh i was going to check on her - he said "are you MAD, if she has suffocated there's not much you can do about it now!!"
anyway, she woke at 3.30, i fed her and she didnt wake till 6.20! Feel like im half way through the day already!
Know from experience this is probably a one off, but cant help getting excited!

krispiecakes · 05/07/2007 08:28

sorry to hear of your night bags, ginger, and ep.
I would defo give mediced a try, it was a doctor who recommended it to me she used it on her two aswell...
youre right ginger, some babies just CANT settle themselves and leaving them to cry just takes them longer to go back to sleep. i jump up at the first noise because i know thats my best chance of getting her back off quickly. Those people who judge us for not being tough enough are always the ones blessed with sleepers!

Tapster · 05/07/2007 08:35

Ok I am hoping you will want to kick me off. SHE SLEPT THROUGH. For the first time in her life she went from 7.30pm until 6am (back asleep a 8am as she was so exhausted after so much sleep!). Thats 10.5 hours. OMG OMG. It was my birthday yesterday so that was her present, DH joked that maybe she'll only do it once a year.

She did stir at 1am and 5am both times I stared at the clock and let her grumble/shout for 10mins and then all went quiet. I hate hearing her cry but more and more I've been leaving her for 5-10mins so she gets the message that its time for sleep. We have been doing GR which I would really recommend.

Amber and Krispie glad you had good nights
Bags, EP & Ginger sorry about your nights.

In state of shock...

tibsy · 05/07/2007 08:40

not sure if he has a cold or a runny nose from teething?
didn't give him any medised last night as don't think he needed it and would have felt too guilty!

Amberjee · 05/07/2007 09:33

weeee heeee tapster! and happy birthday.

MegBusset · 05/07/2007 09:37

Morning everyone and yay!! for Tapster!

Sorry for the bad nights. Ours was OK, fed at 11, woke at 2 soaked from leaky nappy so needed to be fed back to sleep after change, then woke at 5 and in with us til 7.30.

Those leaky nappies are a real PITA, he's at an awkward stage where size 3 nappies are too small but size 4 are too big (yes, we use disposables ). So we are getting lots of night-time soakings, a real bummer as we haven't needed to change his nappy at night for many weeks.

Also, while I have my moany hat on, he is being a right pain to settle for naps at the moment. he will fall asleep for 30 seconds then eyes ping open again and it's 15 more minutes of trying to settle him as he rolls around the cot. Took 30 mins to settle him this morning and the max he will sleep for is another 30 mins!

bagsundereyes · 05/07/2007 10:48

Tapster !

Just wanted to share a couple of really dopey sleep deprived moments with those who will understand.

I have just left my debit card in the cashpoint after buying mobile phone credit.

Then, having to pay for the supermarket shop in cash, I tried to overpay by £20 . Think we both need a nap, sharpish .

Tapster · 05/07/2007 11:17

Meg we had the same problem with leaks. Which disposables are you using? We have just switched to size 4+ pampers from size 4 huggies which started to leak. Found that for each size different brands worked best. Some brands are smaller than others. DD is too small for 4+ huggies but 4+ pampers are now perfect. We found for size 3 tescos were the best. Nights have been better since using pampers.

krispiecakes · 05/07/2007 11:42

yeah i use pampers baby dry for the night and active fit in the day.

MegBusset · 05/07/2007 11:53

Tapster for size 3 we were using Tesco but they redesigned them a week or two back (plus he has grown somewhat) so even though they are supposed to go up to 20lb, they are too small (he is 16lb 2oz).

We are currently trying Pampers size 4 which are supposed to be from 15lb, they have leaked on us as well as they're pretty big but seem the least worst option at the moment. I have got a pack of Tesco size 4, they're supposed to be 20lb+ but maybe we'll try them for size, after all he is a pretty chunky lad.

Bags LOL at your sleep-deprived antics!
