I have just about had it with ds2's sleep and dh's arseyness about it all

Every argument we have is about ds2's sleep. I don't know what to do next. I am sick of his bloody criticism and lack of help and support (but of course he has helped in the last two years apparently and as I 'only work two days' it should be mainly my area.....). Some things he says are so bloody chauvinistic.

I have just had enough of it.
Sorry for whinging yet again but am so bloody fed up

Oh popsy, sorry this is still going on for you . I completely understand what you are going through (although mine didnt go on for as long as yours has).

Little consolation, but his constant waking is obviously for a very good reason.

Glad you had a good nights sleep. When you get the occasional good night, you feel like you can conquer the world, dont you?

I hope all goes well on the 11th. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

popsycal · 26/05/2007 15:53

I have been working today and ds2 has not had a nap. He can occasionally manage without, and if he slpet well at night, he would not need one at all. Hopefully it will have a positive efect tonight - although no nap often means a worse nights sleep as when he wakes, he is sooo overtired, he cant be consoled.
fingers crossed
i dare not even hope

I hope it works out for you. I've been reading your threads with interest, as DD (2 in August) is a horrible sleeper also. We've tried what you have with the same bad results, and often 4-5 hour periods at night when we are up. The Dr. hasn't been able to find anything "wrong" with her, and it has been very frustrating, and I've shed a lot of tears every time nothing comes up wrong. DH has been very supportive, and tries to help even though he works and I don't, but it still has been exhausting, and I can only imagine how frustrating and whatever else it can be with a DH who isn't.

Every sympathy popsy. My ds2 wakes twice (often more) and is usually awake at 4.30/5 and ready to start the day. Luckily dh does more than his fare share otherwise I'd have left home.

Total and utter shite and every sympathy to you.

Hope it goes well on the 11th. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

ProjectIcarus · 27/05/2007 10:04

did you leave the window again?

YeahBut · 27/05/2007 11:39

Popsy, I can sympathise entirely. Both dds had ENT problems, ds is now developing them and the effect on sleep is devastating. All my children have interited allergies from dh and I - dd1 has eczema, dd2 (and looks like now ds) has hayfever and asthma. Our first paediatric ENT consultant told us that children with allergic tendencies are much more prone to problems with adenoids, tonsils and ears purely because they are much more mucousy than other children (lovely discussion for a Sunday am!)
All the children have or will end up with grommets (ds is scheduled for the autumn) but one thing we found extremely helpful in the meantime is to try an anti-histamine or decongestant. Ds has been in particular distress with earache etc. since the spring but hasn't got an infection. Awake every hour during the night at its worst. A couple of days on the anti-histamine (and it's a non-drowsy one) has changed him dramatically because he's not as bunged up and he's now sleeping through.
It's probably not a bad idea to try an over the counter anti-histamine or a decongestant (if your ds is able to take them) to see if they have any effect on your ds. Even if they don't, it's another bit of info for the ENT consultant that you do end up seeing. Best of luck to you. Sorry it was long.

popsycal · 27/05/2007 19:44

thanks yeahbut - that is really helpful
have tried him with piriton before (more in a mission to get him to sleep than anything....) and it had no effect. However, I am quite atopic - not severely really but lots of things set me off with mild reactions. He also had eczema as a baby which suggests he may be like me...

I will buy some non-drowsy anti-histimine and give it a go. He is going through a phase of not taking medicine though.

I kind of hope that there is an ENT issue then that makes it not just a shit mam isssue....

Things like piriton etc. often need a few days to "kick in". I'd try it for at least a week to see what happens. Am not in the UK so not up on what can be obtained over the counter there but have been told that sudafed now make a childrens decongestant that may help. Thinking of you and keeping everything crossed!!

YeahBut · 27/05/2007 19:51

And anyone that cares enough to ask for help and advice is NOT a shit mam.{{{{{hug for a great mam}}}}}

popsycal · 27/05/2007 19:51

will have a look tomorrow thanks!
Worth trying so that whenwe go to the ENT appt I can at least explain what we have tried

oh pops, i cant belive this is still going on

so glad you saw GP and her has a referral sorted already. hopefully they can pin point something.

dd3 may have been awful tp get sleeping through, but i still cle4arly remember dd1 sleeps problems due to her eczema and asthma. She is still one i have problems with regarding sleep, then dd2, then dd3.

be wary with piriton, with some children it has the opposite effect and makes them more hyper. Ont he eczema board there was many tales of TV watching at 4am due to the piriton hyper effect.

dd1 has loratradine now (finally we can get it again after it being out for over 6months at all pharmacies) which isnt a drowsey one, but stiops her skin itching and hurting, stops the nasal drip and helps keep her airways clear (as well as her asthma meds) which means in turn she is sleeping better and feels better. piriton can make her grumpy as well.

popsycal · 27/05/2007 20:05

we have tried piriton and it has no effect t all

will try whatever i buy in the daytime first as I could not bear an even worse night

misdee · 27/05/2007 20:06

worth a shot right?

popsycal · 28/05/2007 05:56

not tried vicks - didnt think you were meant to use it on little ones.. have used karvol though to no avail
may try it a bit more though
will also get some anti histimine today. he probably wont take it though
another bad night
been up for an hour already
