BikBok · 29/05/2007 16:41

pps. i'm changing my nick as i'm bored.

Swizzler · 30/05/2007 08:50

Still no improvement ... still growing... he's being v cute now and eating toast so I don't feel too bad
Hope everyone else had better nights. Amber: has the improvement continued?

gingerninja · 30/05/2007 09:21

I hear ya Swiz, it is a good job they're cute isn't it? I'd have ebayed DD long ago if not.

tibsy · 30/05/2007 10:51

hiya girlies and happy birthday for yesterday amber, hope you had a good one
well we've had a couple of restless nights but i sent dp up to deal with her and she fell asleep straight away. shes still feeding once/twice a night too i guess shes still so little, she must need it although i know youve managed to wean dd off milk at night tho ginger havent you?
swizz, it is a very good job they are cute!! i used to say i'd trade ds in for a budgie, dont know what i'll trade dd in for
amber, how goes it after the sleep nurses departure?

we went to a sealed knot display at a castle on mon. i just couldnt get my head around the fact that dd didnt even flinch when these massive cannons were going off and scaring the s**t out of me, yet if we walk quietly through our room when shes sleeping, she wakes up

Swizzler · 31/05/2007 08:43

Aaargh! Still no improvement, gave some Medised last night but still waking every couple of hours or less. This has been going on for weeks and I have no idea what it is. DS is hungry when he wakes up, so may be reverse cycling now hes not feeding as much during the day? Growth spurt? Teeth? Will just have to wait and see. Def not a good time for sleep training as hes pretty cranky and clingy as well.

Amberjee · 31/05/2007 09:47

so we had our first night without sleep nanny last night, and it went ok. he woke and settled himself around 9.30 without us going in, jsut a few little whimpers. then i fed him at 11.30 and 3, then slept till 7. hmmm.....!
i've been terribly sick though since tues night, some horrible bug. i'm only just coping with being upright again after being in bed for 36 hours. am surviving on panadol and ibuprofen today as DP is at work. he was able to work from home yesterday which was a godsend.

Tapster · 31/05/2007 09:59

Well after the previous night when she woke up 5 times a night, twice for 1.5 hours each time. Last night I fed her for 20mins at 2am and that is it. We decided to leave her to grumble for up to 15mins each time she woke, not screaming, just listening to the monitor - did this at 11.30pm (always stirs then and expects a feed), 2am fed her, 5.20am (so tired waited she went back to sleep), woke at 6.40am 12 hours after she went to bed... Miracle? She did eat a proper tea for the first time, she loved the pasta I made her, thought it was a bit early to eat pasta but at 6.5months she wolfed it down. Hope last night not a one off. We are doing gradual retreat and would recommend it.

She has just woken from a 1.5hour nap this morning!

Swizzler · 31/05/2007 11:42

Well done Tapster!

Amber: sorry to hear you've been ill. Hope you're still getting plenty of rest. I find it takes me far longer to recover from a bug now my sleep is disrupted.

Have booked an appointment for cranial osteopathy next week. Not sure if it will work (neither is osteo) but worth a try.

tibsy · 31/05/2007 13:09

afternoon all
tapster - posted on your other thread re. bfing at night. we're doing gr too and have had some good results
swizz - theres no improvement. it will come, i'm sure of it. hang on in there ..... oh, and dd had a 'taster' session of cranio, fell asleep during it!!! dont know what would have happened if she'd have had the proper job
amber - glad your night was ok. sorry you've been unwell. it really is the pits espec on lack of sleep too
our night ok, went to bed awake in cot without boob (she was really restless tho despite me being there so i left her to it, she shouted out a few times then dropped off - she was absolutely exhausted, but fighting it, why do they do that?)
fed at 12.30, again at 3.30, then 5.30am, up for day at 8.30am..........3 feeds? god i hope it doesnt increase anymore

Amberjee · 31/05/2007 13:21

i miss those days when you were sick and could just curl in front of the tv all day and doze on and off - what a luxury!
anyway, slowly getting better. LO has been nice and taken 2 x 1.5 hour naps today, so i've gotten some rest too.
tibs - 3 feeds seems a lot doesn't it. its so hard to know what they actually 'need'. my LO has been eating every 2 hours in the day the last two days after ages of being really fussy and only eating every 4 hours in the day. now he's pleased to get the boob again! its been nice while i'm sick as we can just lie down together and have loads of feeds.

tibsy · 31/05/2007 14:35

too true amber, those were the days hey!! dp and i both had sickness bugs several weeks ago. dp retired to bed for the duration i took dd to bed for as long as she would stand it, then lay down on the living room floor wrapped in a duvet whilst she played with her toys. just bfed her as often as she wanted, didnt have to bother with food for her, it was great!!
think shes feeding more atm as shes got another tooth coming through. just noticed it i know it does offer her comfort if i bf her. (another + point for bfing!! )

Amberjee · 31/05/2007 15:00

tibs yeah i think LO is sick of playing with his toys in bed with me!

gingerninja · 31/05/2007 21:02

Amber, sorry I forgot to mention that I hope you were feeling better.

Hope everyone else is well. No major improvements here although DD has dropped the night feed again so goes 7 to 5 without feeding (but still wakes tho.) just settles relatively quickly by cuddling my arm and inserting her dummy. (We're still co-sleeping which makes this possible) DH has just built a bed rail so she can go on the outside and we can have a snuggle Think he felt left out as he was the only one not getting a cuddle!

We have another 2 teeth almost here too. Plus a runny nose and an eczema flare up so here's to a restful night.

Amberjee · 31/05/2007 21:31

thanks ginger - and oh dear, i hope your night is bearable, sounds like it could be a tough one
and good luck with the cranial osteo. i tried it as well for BF problems and sleep as well but it didn't seem to help. though i know some people have had really good results from it. guess it depends on the reason your LO doesn't sleep.

Swizzler · 01/06/2007 07:23

Amber: the osteo was realistic and said sleep was tricky and the treatment might not help but it was worth trying. I feel happier that she's beng honest! Will report back on results - we go next Wed.

Another restless night but a bit better. Didn't bring DS into bed until he woke up properly at about 6:30 so feel as if I've had more rest. He also did one 2.5 hr stretch as well.

Amberjee · 01/06/2007 07:59

swizz, glad your night wasn't too disastrous. ours was ok again. same routine it seems. how do these LO's know the time when they don't have a clock?
in an aside, my LO has got horrible rashes on the back of his knees. does anyone know about this? am i right in thinking its heat rash/prickly heat thing. i am just wiping it with water and cotton and applying burts bees powder. hmmm, i really don't want to go to those horrible health visitors (apologies to the few good ones who must be out there)

gingerninja · 01/06/2007 09:04

Amber, sounds like sebhoric (sp) eczema which my LO gets. It's basically a yeasty eczema like cradle cap that they will grow out of but it is itchy. We use canesten with hydrocortisone to reduce the itchy red rash then just moisturiser to keep it soft.

Our night wasn't too bad although she so unsettled in the evenings at the moment that my bedtime is dictated by a 9 month old baby!!! Still, she didn't feed until 5 and dropped off again after and a couple of brief awakings in the night so was'nt bad although I've taken to waking at 5 and being very wide awake until about 6 drifting off and feeling horendous when I wake at 7.

Amberjee · 01/06/2007 09:28

so do you have to go to bed at the same time as her ginger?

Amberjee · 01/06/2007 09:35

thanks ginger, did some quick reading, sounds like back of knees is a classic spot for eczma. will try using E45 on it for a bit, and sigh, go and see health visitor next week. about time LO had a weighing anyway, though i know he's going to be HUGE!

tibsy · 01/06/2007 09:47

morning ladies
ginger, glad your night wasnt too bad, i hate the restless evenings, and must admit i usually give up and go to bed with her in the end. touch wood, shes been ok lately, but i know what you mean

amber - their internal body clock is like no other aint it?! although i'm sure we would be the same if we didnt have to use mechanical clocks for work, mealtimes etc. dd had prickly heat a few times in my attempt to keep her cosy and therefore sleep but that was mainly on her torso, as ginger said could be eczema and she knows all the treatments on offer...

swizz - glad you had an ok night and feel more rested

well after feeding 3 times the night before, dd went to bed and didnt wake til 3am for a feed, go figure she was a lot less fractious during the day tho so i think her teeth must have given her a bit of respite

i'm leaving her with mil tomorrow so that dp, ds and i can go to the cinema to watch pirates of the caribbean 3 a bit nervous as not left her with anyone really apart from dp (and the creche for 2 hrs, but i'm next door then!) what a wimp!!!!

hope you all have good days

gingerninja · 01/06/2007 11:55

Tibsy, I'm so jealous that you're off to see The Depp in action again. I lurrrrrrrve him. We haven't left DD with anyone yet and I'm dreading having to.

Amber, you could go to the GP, they'll have a much better knowledge that HV (who said my DD had baby acne!!) we saw a dermo and she confirmed the GP's suspicions. We didn't get on with E45 because it's got Lanolin in but that's not to say it won't work with yours. It's real trial and error to find a cream that suits them. Unfortunately if it is eczema we've found nothing takes the inflamation down like mild steroid creams and although I was reluctant to use them at first I did a lot of research and used the allergy boards alot for advice and decided it was for the best. She's certainly a lot happier when it's not to inflamed. Are you weaning your DS yet? I've found certain foods make it worse, dairy is a prime culprit.

Amberjee · 01/06/2007 12:24

hmmm, i will see a GP if it doesn't get a bit better soon. LO is still exclusively breastfeed. i'll probably start some solids in a month or so, though i'm tempted to leave it a bit longer, but i don't think i can handle the family criticism.
my grandmother thinks its a good idea to wean at 2 months and thinks i'm crazy for not doing it yet, especially as his sleeping is so bad!

Amberjee · 01/06/2007 12:25

what cream works for you? i've also got organic babies body cream, and suposedly that was developed by a woman with a baby with eczma, right? or i have weleda calendula cream. tried either of those?

gingerninja · 01/06/2007 18:24

Amber: Yep, I've tried the weleda and it's fine although I found that anything you use when the skin is inflamed made it worse but using it once the inflamation has gone is OK. I try not to use anything too thick and gloopy because it just sits against the skin making it hot and then worse. My DD was bf exclusively to 6 months and got this around 9 weeks. I tried to eliminate all sorts from my diet and I think there was a slight difference by eliminating dairy but it is soooo hard to do. Has he had injections recently? Sometimes they're a trigger too. I've found that my LO is actually improved since weaning but that could be just that she's growing out of it.

PS, My mother was also very synical about bf and wondered why she wasn't eating a full roast dinner at 12 weeks.

On a similar note. I am interested in the bf support that you and I think Tibsy are doing. Do you have any details that you can email me?
