Sorry for your loss @theotherendofthesockportal.

We're having a strange old time at the moment. He's meant to be out of a leap at the moment but is swinging between smiley and grumpy constantly. And burping a lot!

Night time feeds are fine but he's hardly sleeping in his own bed at the moment as he ether thrashes without waking or wakes up all the time and needs picked up to fall back asleep so it's not worth it. I miss having the bed to myself though!!

Sorry for your loss @theotherendofthesockportal.

Thank you for all the supportive messages, it means a lot to me! My HV phoned back and assured me that everything I described sounded normal and was pleased to hear about his his generous increase in weight. She’ll be visiting us on the 3 January but if I get any further concerns in the meantime then I should call their duty desk.

Ds was much the same yesterday and during the night = very fussy, he cat napped mostly during the day. We went to bed with dh at 10.30 pm but was up again at 11.17 pm and by 00.40 am ds was finally ready to return to the bedroom. He slept for 3 hours!!! I’m so impressed! Please let it not be a one off! His little hands were freezing cold though when I picked him up...

AMagdalena · 20/12/2017 05:02

@theotherend sorry for your loss Flowers

@Jellybean So, the 'drowsy but awake' as completely accidental. I left DD in her cot to go to the bathroom after a pathetic transfer. She'd fallen asleep when I returned! Amd guess what, she stayed asleep toll 3am Shock IN THE COT Shock, so she slept for 5.5 hrs in there.
I am utterly shocked.

BrioLover · 20/12/2017 05:27

Thanks for the welcome! DS1 has a vomiting bug so that was a fun start to the night Confused but at least the baby seems ok for now. DS1 is now tucked up with DH on the sofa bed downstairs as his bedding wasn't salvageable and I've got to do something with his mattress today to make it stop smelling - any tips?!

Ceesadoo · 20/12/2017 06:31

@AccrualIntentions sounds like a very tough night. Glad you took breaks when you needed them.

@AMagdalena You did drowsy but awake and didn't even mean to. Amazing. 5.5 hours! Such a victory.

I don't want to sleep train but my baby wakes so often that I might eventually reach a point where it's necessary. Gah. But then I love the middle of the night snuggles. Dilemma.

Meepmoop · 20/12/2017 09:23

We had a night of cot sleeping (with 4 wake ups) I really hope this continues.

@AccrualIntentions hope you managed to get some sleep last night. It's horrible when they're relentless.

Sakura03 · 20/12/2017 15:33

Just got back from Christmas shopping in town (went by bus with ds in pram). I know it’s only mid afternoon but so far ds has behaved so different today. This morning I put him in the pram and had him with me in the kitchen when I made myself some breakfast - you may think it’s weirt to have the pram in the flat but we decided to do it after my c-sec as easier to reach for him and when on my own I could push him around and have him with me in every room - anyway he was in a good mood and all of a sudden he looked sleepy (he only falls asleep after feeding or when rocking him) so I stroked his cheek and he fell asleep and slept an hour!!! Then later on he fell asleep after a feed and I managed to change his nappy and get him in his snowsuit and pram without him waking up!!! I couldn’t believe it, he slept for 3 hours and 35 minutes. Such a wonderful experience (even if it’s just a one off for now) so I had to share it😀 catch you all later🎅🏽

AMagdalena · 20/12/2017 20:36

@Sakura Glad to hear you've had a good day. What would I give for my DD to nap for 3 hrs?!

Soooo tired.
Sad

Jellybabie3 · 20/12/2017 20:37

Sorry for your loss @otherendofthesockportal

Lovely sleeps for @Sakura03 and @AMagdalena!!

I had a rubbish night. I had to open the end of the sleepyhead as DS is already that long (hes two and half months old so hes never gonna make it to 6 - what a rip off!!). Anyway, DS seemed to sense something was different and woke every half hour or so until 3am!. Every time he woke he wanted the boob to instantly fall asleep - successful transfer then bam wailing 30min later. After 3am i decided to shuffle him right to the bottom of the next to me cot so he had his feet in something and he lasted and hour at a time after that. Hes been a toad all day today - constantly on and off the boob. Crying on the boob. Aargh

Jellybean2017 · 20/12/2017 21:07

Generally had a good day but all naps in the sling. He had a huge meltdown at about 7 due to trapped wind. Really struggled to get it out. I've finally managed to get him to sleep on me. Going to attempt to lay him next to me. DH has two weeks off work for Xmas so think we will spend some time persevering with transferring him to his own cot once he is asleep. At least I will be able to nap in the day while DH is off.

Good luck for tonight everyone. 😴

Meepmoop · 20/12/2017 21:12

I've got a roller, he managed to roll back to front several times this evening.

That's the end of co sleeping for now unless we do some room moving about.

Ceesadoo · 20/12/2017 22:15

Baby is down after a failed attempt to move his bedtime from after 10 to before 830. Better luck tomorrow.

May the force be with you tonight ladies.

Ven83 · 20/12/2017 23:04

@Ceesadoo How old is your baby? My son is 12 weeks old and I've been trying to get him to sleep before 10 pm but then he only sleeps for 25 minutes (like he does for his day naps), regardless if I'm holding him or I put him down. But once he falls asleep after 10:30 he can sleep for hours.

Ceesadoo · 20/12/2017 23:28

@Ven83 My son is 15 weeks. Isn't it strange that these tiny little creatures have already established themselves a bed time? I can't fight it, same as you. Before 10.30 he'll be awake within minutes generally. How long does your son sleep for at night?

I hope at some point their bed times will get earlier :////

Jellybean2017 · 20/12/2017 23:44

I just dreamed DS slept for five hours. He didn't. Less than 3 in fact 🙈

Ven83 · 21/12/2017 00:35

@Ceesadoo He normally wakes up between 3 and 4 for a feed. So he can go for stretches of 5 or more hours. But, we co-sleep. If he's in his sidecot, he sleeps for up to 1.5 hrs.

My main issue is he wakes up pretty consistently around 6:30 so basically only gets about 7.5 hours sleep at night. Considering his daytime naps are way too short, I'm really worried he doesn't get enough sleep. So I've been trying to get him to sleep earlier but it's been a struggle.

We're awake now because I laid him in the sleepyhead in his cot around 11 and he lasted about 75 minutes before waking up due to bad wind.

I hope you manage to crack it - let me know what the secret is. If only our babies could see how wonderful sleep is.

HashtagTired · 21/12/2017 01:45

@Jellybean2017 I don't the no my ds has ever slept for 5 hours. Just less than three is still unusual but I'd consider that good here. I have low expectations.....😒

Jellybean2017 · 21/12/2017 02:06

@Hashtag apart from the night in hospital after he was born he has never slept any longer than 4 hours... Generally it's 2-3. Or less after midnight 🙈 he is 20 weeks... It just seemed cruel that I am even dreaming about it 😂😂

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 21/12/2017 02:55

@jellybean it's such a cruel mind trick isn't it? I'm always dreaming that it feels more...but waking to find what i thought was 6 hours was actually 45 mins...

First feed here so very good going. Sadly I haven't slept as well. Very restless and only light sleep, think the room is too hot. Plus DS was very noisy first part of the night, so I kept assuming he was going to wake.

@otherendofthesockportal how are you feeling?

yolkybokey · 21/12/2017 03:48

Am up bouncing DS in his bouncy chair and he seems to be going back to sleep after an hour awake. Am scared to stop though!

We had an awful evening after he had his 18 week jabs this morning- I thought we'd avoided a bad reaction after he was fine all afternoon, but he suddenly had a meltdown after his bath at 6. Full on screaming, which is totally out of character. Managed to get some calpol down him finally and he started settling down. Am so knackered.

MountainVista · 21/12/2017 04:03

Yesterday I thought we'd be up all night but DD finally settled for 3hr from 3.30am. tonight we have not been that lucky...

actino · 21/12/2017 04:26

Bag night tonight, I've been awake with Dd since 1 apart from a 30 min nap. I can't co sleep either because Dh is in the bed with me and he's not comfortable with co sleeping.

AMagdalena · 21/12/2017 04:46

Unfortunately, we didn't repeat the 'drowsy but awake' phenomenon last night/tonight; DD only lasted 50 mins in the cot, but she has just done nearly 6 hours next to me. DH woke us up getting up for work.
She's wide awake now, so I'll try and settle her when I have had my breakfast Smile

AMagdalena · 21/12/2017 04:48

@ctino, I'd evict your DH from the bed, so you can co-sleep and catch some zzz's!

actino · 21/12/2017 05:07

I can kick him out, but only for the next two days because his family is coming to stay with us on Saturday and they will be taking up all of the spare sleeping places.

Doing a cot transfer soon, so wish me luck!
